It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings. A couple of notes:

I know I personally would love better SOAP integration with XCode. We use .NET at work all the time to write web services, and we end up using .NET clients running under parallels on our macs, because keeping the SOAP proxy stub code up-to-date is automatic with .NET....you have to go thru hell with Xcode. I think Apple will fill that gap with the new xcode (there were command line tools in the latest version).

Have you tried rubyonrails? I've done some webservices for testing, and this is very slick.
Just give it a testdrive (www.rubyonrails.com)

An image of the new iPhone just came out! I can't reveal the source I got it from, but you have to trust me, this is the real deal!

Too bad you have to wait longer than me. It's only 8:26 for me till it starts :D . Yay France!<sarcasm>

Not really what I'm looking for, I'm trying to connect a Cocoa-app to a web service with minimal work; Rubyonrails looks like its primarily for developing web applications. But thanks anyways.

I know! But this is special insider info I'm showing just to you, you can't let anyone else see it, you have to keep it a secret!

Are there going to be static downloads of the event? I mean, one I can save to view later? I hate streams, so badly.

Logic-already runs great on 32 bit Intel Macs. A update-v 7.3 that includes additional optimisations for Mac Pro users would be welcome.
V8-could do the same, although my Babya Logic Pro 2 (http://babyasoftwaregr.livejournal.com/53070.html)
has better and interesting features, which Apple could implement in some way.

Safari-voice control of browser, a la Opera-extend VoiceOver to Safari for disabled users.

Some iPod tubes from Apple for the 5th gen would be nice-better quality than others.
GM-has Holden (Australians like me know this brand) thought of iPod intergration-2008 models?

I dunno about that. I had hoped you could download it in HD from Apple' website:D , and though it would take 44 days and nights, I'd be willing to do it... But I think we're gonna have to do with something a bit less. To be honest, I don't care about the Keynote. I just want to read about it on MR, and see a more detailed and graphically advanced description of the products on Apple.com a few hours later...

Any Aussies staying up? I think i will have to.
I'm still considering my options. I'd like to stay up but it starts around 3am here and I have to be at uni by 10am and Tuesdays are my fullest day. I might try to get to sleep earlier than usual around 12 and then get up for it.

Stupid timezones.

Only 100 songs max I suppose ;)

Dude, it's even better than that! Its song capacity is only limited by how many cassette tapes you can carry!

Happy WWDC Eve everyone! May tomorrow bring you everything you wanted! ;) :D

Josh

Why does the counter on MR homepage say it starts today?

Is that the official opening time with the main event i.e. Keynote Tuesday?

Excuse my ignorance but right up till now I thought it started Tuesday. I even saw a page on Apples site that had the week planner on it for WWDC. Maybe I was too excited and missed Monday?

And cars are going to come with a special dock built in to the dash that interfaces your iPhone with your car. They're calling it the Apple Basket.

Yeah I dont think I will get up at 4am. School day tomorrow, pity really. Look forward to seeing new products when I wake up tomorrow though.

Happy WWDC2006 everyone.

I don't care that the ipod isn't on the icons, you know, its a developer banner. Most of those items are developer related, not all, but most, in one way or another. What is more interesting is they didnt show the front of the powermac....but that doesn't mean anything. Everything they show on that banner is publically released. There needs to be visuals when people first come in that aren't covered in black cloth! So don't read anything into that, they could completely change the design.

Its doubful much of the hanging banners will be OS X 10.5 related unless their is a huge feature. They are already taking up a considerable amount of hanging space for bragging rights. I would expect new hardware to be hidden under those displays, atleast two of them.... MacPro and Xserve. Possibly something unexpected. Maybe Xcode 3 or something will be heavily promoted.

Obviously we will have the resolution independance in OS X 10.5. Probably some new security and new workgroup/networking enhancements. We probably can all agree one would be networked spotlight, if you are running 10.5 servers, the clients will ask the server to search its spotlight data for the same data the client is searching for, and give a combined response.....its the one thing of OS X Tiger I hated, the inability to search the network with the same ease.

I'd probably also expect desktop widgets from dashboard....why? Why not, people have used hacks to do it, plus MS has it as an option in Vista.

We'll probably see Apple rolling in features that Vista has, such as combined videos and photos in slideshows. Not that its nessecary, but its damn easy with Cocoa to do such things and why get left behind? Don't let microsoft take a win.

We may also see a system wide Software Update now, which would really be nice. Letting 3rd party developers update their software with the same system.

My employees here at the office really don't care for apple's Mail program, I'd expect some updates to give it the features its been lacking. Same with address book. Of course, these have been rumored for a long time...and for good reason, its needed. Maybe expect a new mail/scheduling server like Exchange, Apple's been rumored to be working on one.

I'd also expect major updates to iChat.... probably MSN and Yahoo support, as well as VoIP.

but none of those things I've said are that huge........so I'm hoping for some really major surprises :)

Interesting read but im not sure about system wide Software update. It could be like opening a can of worms - although it wont smell and have soil on it, it could become a weakpoint for hackers/viruses etc. :(

Why can't Steve do his Keynote at like 4pm over in the US, that we'd be able to wake up at 9. Anyways! As long as he has a big sleigh i don't care

I'm at school in Brisbane and I never understood why anyone would stay up for these while I was back home in Canada, but I'll be up tonight for the keynote. The thought of people knowing about the outcome hours before I do is keeping me up.

Just need to find something to pass the time until 3 am.

Edit: Looks like I should really update my profile. I now have a 17" MacBook Pro and just the Nano.

If done the right way I dont see how it could be a problem. For one, the user has to explicitly add the 3rd party product, apple could also act as a intermediary or something, the update will only become available through software update once apple has tested it (can download it youself when released), and even though the update comes from the 3rd parties webserver the hash is stored on apples servers and the update HAS to be verified and compared to the hash.

edit: spelling
