I think the most remarkable is people aren't getting the subsidized treatment for this phone. This may be the lowest profit margin in the history of consumer electronics. This is a very intersting business model.

I think Apple plans on getting it's fee from Apps and subscription fees

Completely disappointed.

The iPhone is irrelevant to the 75% of North America who aren't AT&T customers.

A nice toy, cool features, no significant meat. Where's the Mac?

Well that was pretty boring, I was hoping for some sort of update to the Mac line, either the MB or MBP. Guess not though

is $199 ex vat then? depending on what state your in what will the overall cost be?

ill deffo be getting one here in ireland on july 11th. price was the only thing keeping me away. plus the limited amount of txt's, i use about 600 a month, but o2 ire allowes you to add bundles of txt ontop of your iphone tarrif. so im sold!

This makes the ipod touch 300$ look ridiculous.

Er, the iPhone is going to cost you about $1650 over the course of the contract. A comparable (non-data inclusive) cell plan might run you about half that. Toss in a free handset and a $300 touch and you're saving over $500.

I'm disappointed, not surprised mind you just disappointed, there was no talk of other carriers or better plan pricing from ATT.

How can they sell 10 million iPhones by the end of this year without selling any for 2 months. UGHHHHH !!!!!!!!! That was ..... DISAPPOINTING

i stand by my statement before the keynote. No 32GB, no iphone.

Looks like no iphone, oh well.

Completely agree, I bought a 16gb touch last November as that was the largest capacity at the time. I had to dump so much stuff to get it to fit. My contract just finished so I was looking forward to a 32Gb iPhone. Well I guess it has to be something else now...

I have to say I am very impressed with the $199 price point for the 8 GB, and that this price point is worldwide. Kudos to Apple on doing this, they could have made off like bandits. How can anyone complain about that pricing??

It's disappointing that it was iPhone only, but I was happy with what they covered. The apps and iPhone 2.0 sound great (and it sounds like there will be plenty more where that came from), the new iPhone 3G sounds great, mobileme sounds great (let's see if the implementation for mobileme is as well; it was funny how people applauded when it was announced that mobileme was replacing .mac).

So I have to say, for it being an iPhone-only keynote, I was pretty impressed. And I'll be eagerly awaiting news on Snow Leopard later today. :)

Wow, I would've thought the iPod touch would've been discounted at least $100. Guess not, with the back to school special and all, but I think that's a lot of money for soemthing that has less features than the iPhone.

It's called jailbreaking and unlocking.
