Lame 3G

Totally lame. No front-facing camera for iChat???

Wow, they added a compass and a talk-to-dial function that's been available on other phones for years.

ALL those photos were fakes, so the naysayers can stand up and take a bow.

To me, this was underwhleming......

(cue the zealots now who say it was amazing and Apple can do no wrong... )

Guess I will return to AT&T the 8GB 3G I had for less than 30 days, use a crappy phone for 2 weeks, and get the 16GB 3GS. Very underwhelming new 3MP camera tho.

I just think it's funny that the things people are excited about are things that "normal" phones have been doing for years. MMS? Video? Voice commands?

Don't get me wrong, I love my 1st gen iPhone...but seriously? I still want a front facing camera. I want iChat. I want AT&T to stop being such douchebags.

(and that matte-finish back was way nicer than the slippery shiny finger-printy back they stuck with)

I don't care about the lack of video chat, it's not a make or break feature for me. I'm hoping it has more RAM and a faster proc, and I'm looking forward to 3G speeds. I was going to upgrade my 1st gen iPhone pretty soon in any case, so it's nice to have something a little better than the 3G to look forward to.

Looks like there were some hardware spec bumps that happened too for the MBPs.

On the whole this WWDC was a massive let down.

1. No Blu-Ray for Snow Leopard!!

2. No Flash support in OS 3.0 for iPhone.

3. No BT A2DP for the 3GS iPhone.

4. AT&T sucks donkey balls (can't handle MMS or tethering at launch, WTH?!?).

Apple is obviously scared about Win 7 since they had to go out of their way to call Win 7 "Vista rebranded".

AT&T is a big bag of fail, and if Apple doesn't get their asses in gear they will be too. I can't believe they kept the same shiny ass back on the iphone that is prone to scratching and easily slips out of your hand. Apparently they like the idea of selling replacements to people that accidentally drop and break them.

I don't know how you feel, but imho I think that while the MacBook 13 got higher value, the 15 got higher priced.

To get to the 9600GT graphics card you now have to shell out $1999 US (here in Sweden it got roughly 10% more expensive). Sure you now get a speed bump to 2.6 from 2.4, an SD card slot and loose the Express port - but seriously wtf? It looks like they shattered their lineup pretty badly, I'd say.

Not that I'm sad though. This is actually the first keynote that made me feel good about already having a Mac! :)

AT&T's contract with Apple and Me

So let me get this straight, I have to be a new customer to get the 32GB new Iphone for $299. But if I want to upgrade my existing second gen 3G Iphone to this new one as an existing customer, I have to dish out $699 and sign a new 2 year contract? You got to be kidding me. Does Apple's contract with AT&T expire in 2010? Why would I even buy the new phone at an additional $400 and new contract. What a bunch of crap! I agree too, they could have put a front facing camera for video. Atleast that would have been new and different than other phones. I'm just glad with the software upgrade, I'll finally be able to text photos. Yipppeeeeeee. It only took how long for that? GEESHHH....very disappointed. AT&T Bites!

The Fine Print

Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). Visit www.wireless.att.com for eligibility information.

Reading some complaints. It seems people were wrongly thinking Apple and AT&T would be decreasing the price of 3GS like they did for 3G launch. People quickly forgot the reason for it and are shocked that AT&T is doing what the always done. There is no special pricing for people upgrading their phones early. Sorry to say; nevertheless, lol.

I originally planned on getting the 15in Macbook Pro, but forget about "screen real estate". The 13in Macbook Pro is a steal and about damn time. <3

I also can't wait until I can affords to upgrade my 1st Gen iPhone. 16GB White, you are offficially mine. With love, me.

This can also read... If currently on a 2 year contract, you will have to renew said contract to get the 299 price. If you do not qualify for a contract because you is broke, you need to find yourself 700 bones somewhere else!

I dont care much that they didnt include a front facing camera. I dont want to sit there holding my iPhone in front of me like an idiot while I talk to someone. Seriously, if you are stationary and NEED iChat, bring your laptop with you and tether it to your iPhone... PRESTO! Front facing camera.
All we need is AT&T to get onboard with tethering. Im sure there will have to be some ridiculous pricing structure involved though. This would cut the sales of their laptop cards in half.

I thought it was a good update to be honest. Faster is better. And even though other phones have had things like voice controls and video capture, my iPhone hasnt, until now. So this was a good update IMO.

Front facing camera would have been nice for both iChat (if you wanted it...it's great for people with kids!) and in order to be able to take a decent picture of yourself (or yourself with friends). You'd be able to see the picture before you take it and hold the phone/pose accordingly.

(PS If you have your laptop with you, why would you need to tether it to your iPhone to iChat - you can just iChat on your laptop?)

Where does it say that? It's going to be available with 3.0 on the 3G. There's no reason it shouldn't be included with the 3GS.

If it is available then they failed to mention it during the key note. Was it previously mentioned at the 3.0 launch party?
