So lemme get this straight. Not only is the $1600 ticket price tag outrageous but you have to get one via some sort of lottery buying type of method?

Good God........

6000 seats, 150,000 potential attendees.

How do you do this fairly?

I take it you've never been to a conference before? I've spent $3k to go to a Microsoft Management Summit in the past, and I had to go to vegas for it.

Training ain't cheap.

Yup… that I do :confused::)

Nothing wrong with that really. It's pretty exciting! Even if the AppleWatch is hammered in our faces daily I would much rather read about it here than reading about Samsung products here daily. :)

----------

I work for a non-profit organization that performs research and we slightly dabble in mobile development for internal enterprise applications. We primarily develop in Java and C#, but have some older Objective-C projects. I mainly go to WWDC for networking and personal reasons, not so much for work

Well some might say that $1599 price you're paying for WWDC is high if you're not there for developing per say, however networking can end up being much more valuable in the long run, so that's a smart idea to go there for that reason alone.

Paid ones besides.

Yeah, they offered me $550 off the Apple Watch Edition instead.

:)

No, kidding, they probably won't send out a rejection letter.

They sent out rejection notices last year! I think they have to unless they want a lot of phone calls inquiring status! Anyone else check their SPAM folder? LOL!

Just got mine:

Dear Developer,

Thank you for registering for the random selection process to attend WWDC 2015.

Unfortunately, you were not selected to purchase a ticket. However, you can still take advantage of great WWDC content. We'll be live streaming select sessions daily and posting session videos, slides, and sample code at the end of each day. You can watch sessions on the web or in the WWDC app.

We appreciate your support.

Best regards,
Apple Developer Relations

Ut oh, here they come! I like how it says "Dear Developer", LOL! ;)

For those who didn't get picked in the lottery, my bank account info is 00233678 for the routing number and 002398588 for the account number. Please make good use of the $1500 you did not have the opportunity to spend for WWDC and transfer it to my bank account.

Thanks! I just ordered new checks. Got $6 off with a coupon code at checksinthemail.com

:)

Do they generally stream the keynote live over AppleTV?

If so, I'll be taking that day off. I love watching the keynotes! Which day will they be doing it?

(Well, at least when there isn't a Chinese translator talking over the main event.)

Yes, they've been streaming it live on AppleTV the last few years. It'll be at 10PT on Monday June 8.

AND I WILL BE THERE!

Lucky guy! I'll look for you in the audience! (PM me a picture and I will. Seriously - it will be fun!)

I just booked that day as vacation. I think I'm going to wait for Skylake for the Macbook Pro 15", but I bet they announce an update to the AppleTV, and I'll be all over that.

What do you want to bet they upgrade the processor, memory, and (finally!) open it to third-party Apps? They weren't ready earlier this year, so they dropped the price, which was disappointing, but also reinforces the notion that an update is coming soon. Everyone knows it is on the way, so they dropped the price of the existing one to mitigate that.

Apple doesn't drop prices lightly. They make great stuff, but they are also on a mission to collect every available dollar in the entire world. And, as a shareholder, I'm surprisingly okay with that goal. :)

My personal guess, anyway. Lets hope it turns out to be true!

I got the rejection letter!

I feel like I asked a hot girl out for a date and she said no! LOL!

The worst part about not going is the time difference, on the East Coast there is a 3 hour difference which means the morning sessions don't start until 12 noon EST. By the time Apple starts posting the non live sessions it is like 4PM or later! :(

damn $1600

Does that even guarantee a seat for Cook's keynote?

I was last there for WWDC 2007 where Steve Jobs gave the keynote. Some of us lined up at 3AM or so. Was third in line. What really sucked is we did not get front row seats. The first section of seats was reserved for the press and VIP. When that didn't fill up they then invited people to move forward if they wanted to. So people who showed up much later got better seats then us early birds.

You also really don't need a car if you don't plan on doing sight-seeing. You can get from the airport to close by the Moscone center via BART and hopefully you have your hotel close by there.

iPhone apps then were still "web apps". I remember some guy won best iOS app that gave schedules for the BART public transportation there, all written in Javascript, HTML, etc.

Two years in a row that I've tried and not been able to go. Can't believe some people have gotten through the lottery twice. Wonder what the odds of that are. Wonder if there's any way to improve the odds. Somehow I thought I'd have a better shot this year.

Sorry to hear that :(
I did not get selected last year but I did this year.

Last year I was thinking how to increase my chances. I did not do this but if you are paying for the iOS Dev program and the Mac Dev program you could break them apart under two dev IDs and increase the odds a little.
That would complicate things a little if you wanted to publish iOS and Mac programs to the Apple store also I do not know if Apple would allow you to do this.

I got the "Your order is bing processed" e-mail message for WWDC just like the user that started this thread. Then almost four hours later I got "See you at WWDC 2015" e-mail that says I was randomly selected. I would certainly hope so, concidering you charged my card almost four hours earlier...

Come on Apple where is the trust! You didn't think I was good for the money I promised to pay? :D :p :D

Yea that happens almost every year. I learned my lesson back in the MacWorld Expo hayday that even with the platinum pass Apple VIPs and Press always get the first 8 to 10 rows at a Keynote. :(

3am doesn't cut it anymore. I have been to every WWDC for the last 9 years except 2014 and you have to get there ALOT earlier than that to get that close to the front. You have idiots with tents now to deal with.

The line bunches up inside anyways and depending on when/how they divide the line going up the last set of escalators has a lot to do with it.

No Stump the Experts session at this year's WWDC. No longer worth the $1600.

???? Umm, What did you say?

Source please.

So I received the email that I wasn't selected this year. Major bummer. Then later on that night I discovered Apple tried to charge my card for $1,600.00 but the card was declined because my wife is traveling at a medical conference and didn't tell the bank she would be traveling and using the credit card. After a few charges at random odd places the bank put a block on the card and therefore when Apple tried to charge me it couldn't go through and I lost my place.

So sad right now...

WWDC is a 5 day event

----------

Actually it doesn't. Only about 75% of the attendees can fit in the main room. The rest watch it in a separate room.

But the main reason for the event is NOT the keynote - it's a 5 day developers conference 9-5.

You can't possibly attend it all. There are around 8-12 events going on at the same time all day Monday through Friday. And a free party on Thursday night with a big name band, free drinks and food. Plus free lunches and food throughout, free apple merchandise, and one on one with apple engineers to help developers code their apps. The money is well worth it.

I have been there a couple of times. I wouldn't say it is worth the money if you go there more than once. And certainly the food and "merchandise" aren't worth any money. The cold lunch boxes they have are horrible (every attendee of WWDC can confirm that). The Apple merchandise is just one thing (usually a jacket). I have been to NSConf which costs half the amount of money and you actually get good warm food, both for lunch and dinner. The only advantage for WWDC is being able to talk to actual Apple people which is very valuable specially in marketing and engineering labs.

The reason to go to WWDC for people who attended before is close to zero now that they stream live sessions and put them online very quickly. Not worth the 1600 + hotel + flights.

I definitely don't have the money to spend 1600$ to go there (plus I have to book flights for another 500-1000$). And I don't really want to go because I don't like social events, so I guess I'll just watch the live stream.
