I love Apple and its products, but over the last year or so I think its line up has hit a stale period. after all what else can you do with a rounded rectangle bit of glass?
Didn’t BlackBerry say nearly the same thing circa 2007?
Hmmm, or was it the 1939 world’s fair where one smart man commented about the lack of anything viable that could be done with this rectangle and some glass he had seen. He noted they called it a television.

what can be done with a rectangular bit of glass is _____. Whether it’s Apple or someone else that fills that blank(s) is TBD. And the possibilities for filling in that blank are precious few or numerous.

Microsoft updates Windows 10 semi-annually. Most of the time it’s to little fanfare and the updates are minor, but apparently the next update will be more significant, so they are holding an event to talk about it. The annual updates to macOS are usually somewhere in between.

If there was a disappointment, it was that Apple didn’t announce anything specific to take advantage of the A14 and M1 in the newest iPad Air and Pro models, but Apple typically designs iPadOS for the lowest end processor it currently sells, which is the A12 Bionic. That’s roughly 1/3 the speed of M1 and 1/2 the speed of the A14. Since WWDC is a developer conference, it might not be the right event to announce “pro” apps like a hypothetical Final Cut Pro for iPad. They could do that at the fall event(s).

Bringing up windows? You should be shunned, banished!
(I’m just joking KPOM)

The keynote did end on 1 hour 45 minutes which i thought may have indicated they were going to have one more thing to make it a full 2 hours but maybe there was a last minute hitch.

It's obvious the higher end MBP's need the improved chip.

At the same time, it is not obvious it wasn't ready for WWDC 2021. Rumors, for the most part, suggested an updated machine was going to be released.

So again, NOT OBVIOUS they weren't updating the MBP today.
Again, you keep referring to the rumours. The rumours that came from an unreliable source, and that many reliable sources debunked over the last week.

The rumours you base your whole 'not obvious no new hardware was coming' on, is equivalent to me saying that it was obvious that we were going to get an Apple Glass announcement at WWDC cos the kid next door said so.

Here's MR with an article before the event confirming based on reliable leaker confirmation it wasn't gonna happen. Reliable Leaker Suggests No MacBook Pro or ... - MacRumorshttps://www.macrumors.com › 2021/06/07 › no-hardw...

Which also provides additional confirmation regarding the supply chain too:

supply chain reports from outlets like Nikkei Asia and DigiTimes have claimed that mass production of new MacBook Pro models will not begin until the second half of 2021.

So, let it go, it was obvious it wasn't gonna happen.

The keynote did end on 1 hour 45 minutes which i thought may have indicated they were going to have one more thing to make it a full 2 hours but maybe there was a last minute hitch.
Or maybe they just didn't need to stretch it out. Not all of them end up being a full 2 hours.

True though it did seem to end quite abruptly i thought. Tim didn't get a great deal to do!
Tim delegates much of it to the people that worked on the various things, who have much more knowledge of the subject matter. Plus it stops it from being 1 man talking for 2 hours.

How can you understand health if you can’t be healthy and understand how it actually affects the body if you can apply it to yourself there’s one thing about being book smart and one thing with firsthand knowledge specifically there’s a Lotta variance in weightlifting physical movements there’s a lot of variance in oxygen uptake in endurance there is a lot of variance in movements there is a lot of variance in how caffeine affects certain people etc. etc. etc. first-hand knowledge is a lot better than book smart that is exactly what I mean so I gladly appreciate your input on that.
Late reply, but better late than never.

Firsthand knowledge is not the discriminatory factor between a good trainer and a bad trainer. Granted, a good trainer that is also healthy is definitely a good thing, but them being healthy is not WHY I hire a trainer. I hire them for their knowledge and their ability to tweak ME by their observations and evaluations. Their status is totally irrelevant. If more people understood this they would not be taken advantage by gyms that promote buff or super-athletic personal trainers that have a certification but are totally unable to train people and are, at times, outright dangerous. I don't need, nor necessarily want, to relate to my trainer. He might have the perfect physique, well, I am not there to get their physique or even to relate to them: I am there to improve MY physique according to MY capabilities, DNA, and schedule.
Firsthand knowledge is not absolutely "better than book smart" because of the variables you discuss which might make the trainer think that "if I've done it, you can do it too."

Personally, I had all sort of trainers. From the chubby trainer to the active pro boxer, from the thin "runner" body type to the athletic martial artist. In some cases, their physique was totally off from their ability to train me. People that I've underestimated revealed themselves as life-changing trainers, and people that I thought had amazing bodies revealed themselves as "meh" if not downright ignorant. It's all about trying and see.

Adguard works for me.
With YouTube's new way to bypass ad blocking tools does Adguard stop YouTube's ads from playing at the beginning of videos? I've been using WIPR and it's amazing but after YouTube's recent update it can't stop the ads from playing at the beginning and the middle of videos. It's so annoying that every time I play a new video it starts with an ad first. The free adblockers have been unsuccessful. I will be happy to install Adguard if it blocks ads from YouTube's latest update.

I disagree this was "obvious."

If the 16 inch is announced in October and shipped in November, Apple will have gone two full years without updating their highest end laptop. That's insane. 2 years! When is the last time they went two full years without updating a laptop?

Plus various leaks over the past few weeks and months and the fact they have absolutely released new hardware at WWDC.

Again, not "obvious" they weren't going to release anything.
The 2015 13" MacBook Pro was released in March 2015 and was not updated until October of 2016. Not two years, but 18 months. It's possible Apple is just not ready to introduce the M-based models right now. I suspect it will be October of this year before they intro the 14" and 16". Apple does this at their own pace. It became very apparent listening to credible sources that Apple does not have enough mini-LED screens to ramp up to meet demand yet. I think they'll wait until the Back to School season is over before we see these new MacBook Pros or the larger iMacs.

Now discussing features just for BMW drivers…
The initial implementation of the feature required NFC, I believe. The current and future implementation can use bluetooth or Wifi as well, meaning it should be extended to most cars that are currently capable of Wireless CarPlay.

I mean, the new maps looks great but what if you don’t live in one of the five biggest USA cities?
I think that it’s similar to electricity, cell phone service, cable service, etc. if people are not in the top markets, they’ll have to wait. However, if there’s little of note in a general area, it may not get the full 3D rendered elevation view.

There’s lots of places that don’t even have the current low-res 3d views.

The way those iPads are getting flung around - is this Apple's way of making others throw their 3rd gen iPad Pros (and breaking them) and having to buy a new M1? Nice mind control Apple (throws iPad against the ceiling)
Never mind that… WHERE ARE THE BENT IPAD PRO VIDEOS??? I’m starting to think that bending new devices isn’t a thing anymore. :( Either that, or someone TRIED to bend an iPad Pro and is still in the hospital and haven’t had an opportunity to edit the video… so, we wait.

Man I was right in every prediction about the Apple Silicon so far (even when attacked by people who insisted all these things were releasing far earlier) and now I predicted this too. Going to make a Twitter account and call myself a leaker now
Yeah, just provide information from your sources (MacRumors) and you’ll climb the ranks fairly quickly! With a few lucky guesses, you could even hit top 5! :)

Lol, some people are really never happy 😀 These are some of the best improvements we got in years.
Thing is, the only things that would make a particular group happy is an “affordable” Apple tower, an “affordable” Apple monitor, an Apple branded access point… or, ahhh, let’s throw in a new version of iWeb and Aperture. :)

When one ties their happiness to things that aren’t going to happen, this is the inevitable result. And, you can’t force them to stop wanting those things even though it’s clear Apple’s moving in a new direction with new customers (half of iPad and Mac purchases are folks new to both platforms). A few years ago, I helped a bunch of folks on the high end migrate to non-Apple platforms. It wasn’t easy, there was a time they weren’t happy, and a time where I was on pins and needles wondering “What happens if Apple does an about face and focuses on the Mac in the way THEY want?” Lucky for me, Apple never did and they’re generally happy with the systems they’re using now. Sure, there are new challenges, but the key for them specifically was just disconnecting themselves from Apple.

Why didn’t apple do interactive widgets, or split screen? Android is looking more and more useful now
As a tablet? I’d thought Google stopped developing a solution that’s geared to tablets and went all in on phone sized interfaces.

It’s hilarious that they think anyone over the age of 50 is going to have any idea that any of this exists. Apple should stop putting health **** on the iOS, and just make hardware designed for it.
Hell...over 40 even

It’s all just a confusing mess of crap that nobody I know ever even attempts to navigate.
I’m guessing you might be surprised at the number of folks over 40 on this board that DO know this exists and will just quietly appreciate it. ;)

Here’s hopes that, in another 25-30 years you haven’t lost the interest in technology such that you can’t use the tech of the day to help improve your lives!… then again, if it’s a confusing mess even now…

GIVE US MORE VARIETY APPLE, AND GIVE US THE CHOICE OF WHAT MONTHLY CHALLENGE WE WANT TO DO.
I think the point of a “challenge” is to push you to see if you can do it. If you can’t, that’s fine, it’s just a challenge and you get an easier one next month. I guess Apple should have an option to disable challenges, though. But, choosing your own challenge and making it easy enough to accomplish isn’t really a challenge, that’d be more like a participation trophy.

Hopefully someday I can plug my Xbox or PS into my iMac.
I bought this from elgato.

Let’s me use my laptop screen as a monitor and, if I want, I can record, too.

My DREAM though, is that you could just connect a HDMI to USB-C cable and record from anything :D

I don’t get why people are complaining about lack of developer features… WWDC is a consumer event focused on overall software and OS updates, not just developer updates. It’s like you’ve never watched a WWDC.
No, it’s pretty much a developer conference, and like any conference, the Keynote sets the stage for ALL the things that will be discussed. (Everything seen in the keynote has an underlying framework that’s required for it, and in some cases, an interaction between several frameworks) It sets the context for how Apple expects consumers to use or be exposed to new features that will be discussed in detail throughout the week. After the Keynote, I’d imagine development teams spent a part of the rest of the day discussing what was shown, going over what was important to their app and splitting the teams up to view specific sessions and attend developer labs over the course of the week.

I really believe Apple should start spacing out their software updates a little more. These huge software dumps are cool, but they’re hard to process everything. Also, doing it all at once feels like you’re going to need a thick book just to navigate all the new stuff.
Oh, you haven’t seen the HALF of it :) I’ve already reviewed a few hours of developer videos just from the Tuesday morning sessions and there’s more later today and a whole week left!

Truth is, though, for any given app, no developer will need to know ALL this. Like, I can imagine an individual developer, eyes glazing over during anything even slightly related to homekit, but neurons firing wildly with anything related to shareplay. They just focus on what’s interesting and important to their livelihood. The only time critical piece is that you can get direct access to Apple folks today, but all the content is available later for perusing at a leisurely pace.
