I don’t ever expect anything from laptops or desktops anymore. These devices are mature technologies that will never really have a “wow” moment for me (the change to Apple Silicone is an exception and something that won’t happen again). The software updates are nice, and some are overdue. The Vision Pros are pretty neat (if a little disconcerting), but most of us can’t justify the price for what we saw today. We’ll have to see what reviews are like when they are released.

I ordered a 15 inch Air, so it was a success as far as I’m concerned.

This has been a very long day and this is exactly how I feel now. Anyone else? 😵‍💫🫨

I have Mac Studio ultra M1 that I can still return under the 14 day period, I planned to do this but the M2 ultra is $1000 more in Canada for only 20% increase which I will not see in my use of the machine, so keeping the m1 ultra and my extra $1000.
The M1 is a great processor and there’s very little reason to go for the M2 over the M1 if you can save some cash. The M1 Ultra will be a solid machine for years to come.

I’m a bit surprised that Apple kept the M1 MBA in the line-up. With the M2 being $1099 there’s little reason to buy the M1 at this point. For $100 more you get a better processor, better screen, better speakers, and a newer design. The M1 Air just doesn’t make sense at this point.

we still dont have the ability to use external storage on iPad.

so NO. Apple did not give us everything we wanted.

On The new Mac Pro. No way to upgrade the CPU using modular connections. No upgrading the RAM either.

For $3000 less the Mac Studio M2 Ultra is the way to go.

And Next year The M3 Mac Studio Ultra.
Pretty much the entire M2 range is not an enticing upgrade over the M1. A huge chunk of the extra performance comes from the now defunct (due to power drain and heat limitations) trick of upping the clock speed. The M3 should actually give real gains in power and efficiency.

I’m expecting processor upgrades to be more iterative than huge leaps in performance and efficiency. Yes, we might get an occasional generational boost that raises some eyebrows, but these are pretty great processors as they are now. I feel like we’re finally at a point where we can feel good buying what’s available and not think too much about what‘s coming next.

This was a good Apple event. Great new hardware and software features.

Apple Vision Pro looks great. I hope it's as good as it is in the slick promo videos. I would like to get one. Seeing the eyes is a bit creepy or hilarious but a good feature to make the goggle 'friendlier'.

I was hoping a new Apple Pencil would surface 😗

No love for Apple CarPlay tho. They didn’t even mention anything. Also no calculator app for the iPad. It’ll never happen. Ughhh!

Yeah sure, AS is awesome. You can't go wrong with either M1 or M2. I'm very happy with my 16" M1P MBP. So happy, that I'm struggling to think what they could possibly release in the future to make me want to upgrade any time soon. My machine is already overkill. Battery life is epic, power is overkill, I future proofed RAM and SSD, XDR lacks only for content to match it.

CarPlay love when they introduce Apple Car, Tim's other project.

Maybe the strangest thing ever is still no native calculator app on iPad. Dan could go straight to the source and ask Tim...where is the calculator on iPad!
I have a feeling Apple Vision Pro will get its own Calculator App before an iPad does.

I was quite content with the iterative nature of new features on all the software platforms. Hopefully this means that Apple's software teams are continuing to work on bug fixes and stability improvements instead of trying to "WOW" everyone with unnecessary feature bloat. You know, focus on the low-level stuff that NeXT and early-aughts Apple got so darn right.

I'll be just fine with "Vision Pro" bearing all the glitz-and-glamour while the existing platforms become "boring" and stable.

Something Apple forgot to announce is that their back-to-school promo starts today.

When I add a 15" MBA to my cart, I see a $150 Apple Gift Card is automatically added.

All Macs (except Mac mini) get a $150 Apple Gift Card. The Mac mini get's a $100 Apple Gift Card. Not seeing any Apple Gift Card for Mac Studio and Mac Pro though.

iPads are $100 Apple Gift Card too.

If that’s the case they need to build a bigger battery pack. Push 2 hours to 4 hours so we can at least finish a Disney movie on a single charge.
You can charge the battery while using it:

Power.

The external battery supports up to 2 hours of use, and all‑day use when plugged in.
