In 2021, Apple sent out digital invitations for its 32nd Worldwide Developers Conference in late March. Given that an all-digital conference is expected to occur again this year rather than an in-person event, we could see Apple send invitations as soon as next week.

WWDC-Invites-Soon.jpg

Apple last year sent out invitations to developers and the press for WWDC on March 30, with the dates of the conference being June 7 to June 11. During the conference, Apple announced iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, watchOS 8, and more.

Apple used to hold its Worldwide Developers Conference in the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, but since 2020, all of Apple's events have been digital with no in-person attendance. It's unclear when the next in-person Apple event might be, but it's likely not to be WWDC this coming June.

During WWDC, Apple will announce iOS and iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9, and possibly some new hardware. Apple last announced hardware during WWDC in 2019, when it unveiled the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR. Apple is working on an updated version of the Mac Pro with Apple silicon which could be announced during WWDC.

"Apple last announced hardware during WWDC in 2019, when it unveiled the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR." tripped me up. It took me a while to figure out what they were trying to say as the way it is worded it could be read the last time new hardware was announced was during WWDC in 2019 which given the M1 Macs made no sense.

It reminds me of a German phrase my mother would use as an example of how awkward translating it into English could be: "I throw myself down the stairs a bucket of water."

A better wording would have been 'The last time Apple announced hardware during WWDC was in 2019, when it unveiled the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR.'

The thread title is clickbait (re: "Here's what we know" ). You didn't actually provide any meaningful information. All you did was write an article filled with guesses. You should have said, 'we don't have any information, yet.'

Tabloid journalism should not be on the front page.
Yep…

A new iOS, macOS, watchOS on WWDC ?, and with current major version + 1 ??
From where did they get this insider information??

Let me provide +1 insider info: iOS16 will be released in September along with iPhone 14! ???

Edit:
A friend of a friend who walked by Tim Cook in Apple HQ Cupertino found a paper sheet on the floor, stamped with top secret, and imagine what was written on it, you won’t believe it… ????

As MacOS winds down for Intel Apple needs to resolve and stabilize the last MacOS for that platform.
Not leave us in limbo as they did with Mac OS X Leopard with PowerPC with a buggy slow OS and then release Snow Leopard that was so much better but only for Intel.

Just remember the transition to Intel only gave the existing platform two versions of OS X, Tiger and Leopard.

Don’t be surprised if Apple says Monterey is the last Intel version when they announce macOS Sequoia and it excludes Intel.
The M1 has had two parallel MacOS versions with the Intel, Big Sur and Monterey. We are at two iterations now. That’s probably it. Only one more Intel machine to go.

Also don’t be surprised if Rosetta goes away as well after the next MacOS version for M1. Snow Leopard was the last Rosetta version for Intel giving us three OS X versions before nixing it.

Honestly, I hated Objective-C.
Swift made me kind of like to program on iOS. But yes, UIKit could make things complex.
SwiftUI made me really love programming for iOS. It's so damn great and powerful, but still lacks key features IMO.
don't dare to say bad things about ObjC and UIKit! maybe it was much for you but honestly, who cares?

Everything in the US is reopened and in person so why would WWDC be virtual for safety reasons? Just requires a vaccine/mask if you’re concerned about safety. That would be an IQ test to enter.

Any chance they'll announce an update to the Mac mini in june?
No, more than probably not this year, the update for the mini is the low-end Studio.

It will take a while for the M2 to take over and Apple is probably going to update all the models at once. The chip is very modular and would allow for mass upgrades in that manner.

I hope there’s mammoth under the hood improvements with Mac OS Mammoth to take better advantage of the M1 Ultra chips. They do not seem to be performing to their potential, especially with 3D rendering.

maybe they'll surprise us and will announce that they will focus on bug fixes and stability?????
Every company needs to slow down. My gosh even Microsoft with Windows 11 has been a buggy nightmare. I can't even use my start menu or task bar after waking from sleep for the past month and require a hard restart or ending explorer.exe and opening it again.

Hate these comments because they don’t mean anything, you do know bugs will always be there, they can keep pushing bug fix updates and bugs will still be there it can never be bug free; I would rather cool features and exciting changes and still have bugs, 3 months beta testing and it’s still full of bugs
It has gotten worse over the years though. And the same is true for Microsoft with Windows 11 so I am not just hating on Apple here. I love Apple but sometimes their software irritates me.

that remains to be seen ...
The way both iOS and IPadOS work with the App Store filtering could be shelved with more of a MacOS gatekeeper for both iOS 16 and IPadOS 16. It’s like how iTunes used to be too many things on MacOS, the iOS/iPadOS App Store is a Achilles Heel now.

Gatekeeper is a security feature of the macOS operating system by Apple. It enforces code signing and verifies downloaded applications before allowing them to run, thereby reducing the likelihood of inadvertently executing malware.

I’m still waiting for SceneKit and SpriteKit improvements, just joking, i gave up that unmaintained crap years ago.
Apple often has framework diarrhea at WWDC, and release stuff they never touch again.

The WWDC is not about the keynote. It is about spending time with Apple developers and asking them questions about how to use new SWIFT features. I look forward to attending the conference, even if I am doing so from my home office.

yea, but the App Store "Achilles heel" is a political one, iTunes was homemade ...

I know its not quite the same, but earlier before iTunes was broken up, it became an albatross of sorts. The continued discussions/arguments about App Store being totally necessary for OS security doesn't allow Apple to go forward with alternatives easily. Its too much of a OS weakness then a strength and can be prayed on politically as we know. ;)

If I were to guess, the new Mac Pro will get announced. Apple is eager to get to a common code base for their os and probably doesn’t want to waste calories on x86/64 anymore.
