I am ready. Looking forward to seeing new software. Would be great if new Macs were announced too.

Wishful thinking about people not complaining about battery drain. lol I think it will be exceptionally bad this year.
Hmmmm interesting...... Mind if I ask why though? Cuz I personally expect Apple to fine-tune iOS this year given the amount of bugs and unpolished things within iOS 14 that still exists lol

lmao yeah something tells me it won’t be that amazing… but it SHOULD be! it’s time for a nice shake-up.

hopefully we get a bit of skeuomorphic design back.
Agree. I've been thinking the same since Instagram let users switch to their old logo for their anniversary. The flat style icons are trash and have aged horribly.

Apple needs to do something to Fend Off a pending Antitrust ruling, so I would NOT be at ALL surprised if they announce some "carrot" to the App Dev Community (to appease the Judge in the Epic vs Apple court case) !

And, if they do so, it will be the BIG news of WWDC21.

My best guess, NOT full-blown third-party App Store, but instead, "App Discovery" App Stores, that would compete Head On with APPL in App Discovery, & get a piece of AAPL's action for any financial transaction they are responsible for !
And when the Judge wants to go in a different direction, does Apple pull all that functionality back with a "just kidding"?

Just to be clear, it is the current Instagram icon that is trash. Nothing about flat design says "make a vaguely camera-shaped outline and put it on a tie-die gradient background"

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to buy several more keyboards today so I don't wear out the F5 key before October.

I was curious as to why you would be pressing F5 repeatedly, since this would do nothing on any Mac I use. Then I realised you must be using a Windows computer.

To be fair, nothing about flat design says "make a vague flower looking blob to symbolise the user's photos album" but here we are since iOS 7.

Yup. We only tolerate certain things & go along with them because that’s what the company told us is best.

I don’t need my notes or calendar app to be super textured and look like a real calendar / notepad. However, a little depth, shadow and 3-D go a long way on these high-res advanced devices.

They can do that and still make the icons look similar to how they are now so that developers don’t have to do too much extra work.

why? what would you skeuomorph the designs to? What real-world objects are more frequently used or more easily recognisable than their digital iPhone app equivalents?

Icons are not changing many leakers have said, it’s going to be a minor update like iOS 12, I do love iOS but I’m tired of the same old design and if they don’t make widgets interactive then I’m gonna be angry, just give us an option to remove home bar

I was originally only going to take Monday (key note) and Friday (catch up on highly interesting sessions) and then try to carve out time at work on Tuesday - Thursday to watch the good development related sessions sunce I am trying to get back into application development.

But then I realized that won't happen (too many intrusions at work and too many things I know I need to get done), so I said to heck with it and I am taking the entire week off. Can't wait, not only for WWDC but also a week of vacation time. :)

5 steps of preparing for and handling WWDC:

1
- Select your favorite, aspirational feature, product or update that you dream that Apple creates. My pick: M1 iPads run macOS (dual boot minimal touch accommodations) or mac apps (sandboxed, with transparent API hooks into iPadOS facilities such as files etc.)
2 - Poor over macrumors and other leaker data that somehow lend creedence to your hopes
3 - Post excessively pre-WWDC on the macrumors forum and argue vehemently for your point of view
4 - Watch the entire 07.06 keynote with bated breath ... but ultimately be disappointed
5 - Pretend on macrumors, that you intend to return the device or never buy another update in that space ... claims you'll obviously ultimately renege on (silently) and then repeat 1-5 in 2022 🥳

For the record: I have an iPad Pro 11" 2021 slated for delivery 03-10 June, so I'm all set for above 😂.

We're just one week away from WWDC 2021, which kicks off next Monday, June 7 and runs through Friday, June 11. Apple's annual developers conference will be an all-digital affair for the second year in a row due to public health measures, but it will still be an exciting week, with Apple expected to unveil iOS 15 and other new software updates.

Ahead of WWDC, we've put together five steps to prepare for the conference.

1. Set Siri Reminders

During the course of WWDC, there are a few presentations that have broader appeal:
  • Keynote on Monday, June 7 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time: Apple is expected to unveil iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15, and there is always a chance of a hardware surprise or two, with a new MacBook Pro rumored.
  • Platforms State of the Union on Monday, June 7 at 2 p.m. Pacific Time: Apple will provide a deeper dive into the new developer tools, technologies, and advances across its software platforms.
  • Apple Design Awards on Thursday, June 10 at 2 p.m. Pacific Time: The awards celebrate the creative artistry, craftsmanship, and technical achievement of Apple developers, according to Apple.
One handy way to remember these dates and times is to set Siri reminders using an iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, or other Apple device. For example: "Hey Siri, remind me to watch the WWDC Keynote on June 7 at 10 a.m."

Find out when the WWDC Keynote takes place in time zones around the world.

2. Download the Apple Developer App

Available on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, the free Apple Developer app is central to the WWDC experience, complete with a full schedule once available. Beginning June 8, session videos will be posted to the app each day, providing a deep dive into new features and frameworks being added across Apple's software platforms. The WWDC Keynote will also be available in the app with on-demand playback after the conclusion of the live stream.

New for WWDC 2021, "Pavilions" will provide an easy way for developers to explore relevant sessions, labs, and special activities for a given topic, like SwiftUI. Pavilions will be found exclusively within the Apple Developer app.

The Apple Developer app can be downloaded from the App Store, and many of the resources are available to the general public for free.

Other helpful resources include the Apple Developer website and the Apple Developer Forums.

3. Join the Apple Developer Program

In line with previous years, Apple will likely seed the first betas of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15 to registered developers for testing within an hour or two after the WWDC Keynote concludes.

Those interested in installing the betas on their devices on an official basis will need to sign up for an Apple Developer Program membership, which costs $99 per year in the United States. Individuals who are 18 years or older or have reached the equivalent age of majority in their country can enroll in the Apple Developer Program, even if they do not plan on distributing any apps on the App Store.

It's important to keep in mind that Apple's beta software typically has some bugs or other issues that may affect performance or usability to some extent. For this reason, it's always recommended that beta software be installed on a secondary device that isn't relied on for daily use. It's equally important to back up your devices to a Mac or iCloud before installing beta software to avoid the risk of data loss.

Those who do not want to pay for an Apple Developer Program membership can join Apple's free Beta Software Program, but the first public betas of major new software versions are typically not released until late June or early July.

4. Sign Up for Digital Lounges

Apple will be hosting Digital Lounges at WWDC 2021. Apple Developer Program or WWDC 2021 Swift Student Challenge winners will be able to join Apple engineers and designers throughout the week as they host text-based Q&As and special activities related to developer tools, SwiftUI, accessibility, and machine learning, according to Apple.

Sign-ups open tomorrow, June 1, with limited availability on a first come, first served basis. Visit the Digital Lounges page for more details.

5. Follow MacRumors

Stay tuned to MacRumors.com for complete coverage of WWDC week, including a live blog of the Keynote. Really looking forward to this WWDC - I might put too much into the picture from Apple, but the glasses are really standing out... could the long rumored Apple VR Glass be on the way? And what about the Aipord sticking out on the "other" person... Uhhh exciting :)
