OK yes, MS has them for Longtooth, but can't implement it until 2007 even though they want to launch 2006. So they will yet again release an incomplete OS.

Best not get into that debate though, eh?

I'm talking about XP, an OS 3 years older then Tiger.

i got about ten minutes into the broadcast and it started messing up, perhaps too busy?

Good thread at the Konfabulator forums with thoughs of the developers.
edit: and check out K's front page

Whoa; that's nuts what konfabulator put up on their homepage.

"Cupertino, start your photocopiers." Apple is such an innovator that it is surprising that they borrowed, well, jacked konfabulator's ideas and look.

Apple's dashboard of course seems like it will smoke Konfab, but still, for Apple to steal concepts like that is disheartening. The platform race is all about creation; that's why we love the Mac in the first place.

At least that's why this writer does. With it's curves, sleekness, shinyness, luminosity, spectrum of color, and beauty, Mac puts me in a state of mind to create, not imitate.

Peace!
:)

I can only say after watching the rebroadcast, I am more impressed with Tiger - developers must be jacked

me too. Dashboard looked a lot better when Steve showed it, and I think with nearly a year to work on it, it will even be better when they release it.

I'm just glad they ditched ADC and went to a standard DVI. And personally I think the new displays look really nice. If I had the cash I would pick one up.

Me too. Oh, oops, but I don't have a graphics card good enough. But anyways. The display is really nice, and dumping ADC was wise. Cable arrangement is still ok. No 17" sucks.

Bit of a disappointment, this WWDC. Only one hardware release?(I coun't the displays and Nvidia 6800 as one.) Tiger doesn't look too good, especially with killing Konfabulator with the Dashboard. BTW, Dashboard looks like it has a bit of Windoze look in it. But new iChat is ok. The wait until first half of 2005 sucks.

What I'm hoping from 2004 now is a new iMac, hopefully upgrade to a even faster processor in the PowerMac and liquid cooling across the line (December?). New PB's, and iPods should be coming within 9 months.

But one can't have everything, right?

No wonder there wasn't a webcast. There was nothing worth seeing.

That's right. Apple didn't want to show too many people how they haven't done much work. Lowsy...

But, now they're showing it as a video-by-demand:
Apple.com - Quicktime - What's on - Apple Events
Hmm. At least they're advertising it. The link to the video does not work. Gotta check later.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and much thanks to Arn and co. for keeping macrumors.com up and feeding us with info from the keynote.

Give me a break...

I love how every 7-10 posts someone tries to be the voice of reason, saying, "It's a DEVELOPER'S confrence." Face it. You were disappointed that there wasn't more hardware.

Whoever mentioned that the new displays were not developer-oriented had a good point. If anything, unless Apple was going to release more hardware, the displays seem very out of place. Apple needed either more hardware, or no hardware.

I wasn't... ;) everything other than the iMac and iPod have had recent updates. And I just don't believe people were still clinging on to the belief that we'd see a 3GHz G5 announcement or even PowerBook updates during the Keynote.

I didn't think Apple would choose such a 'closed' event to launch a new iMac if it was either an all singing all dancing G5 or sported a new enclosure design, they'll want some serious media attention for this, either in the form of a Keynote presentation at a consumer expo or by scheduling a one off media event for it. ;)

You can't please everyone I guess.

ooing and ahhig

That's a great clip, it was great to hear people "ooing" and "ahhing" when he showed iChat. Much different from the iTunes Europe announcement :D. I think everyone's being too hard on this keynote, myself included. I'm sure we'll see hardware announcements later this summer, or early fall, but the news about Tiger seems really exciting.

Its a well known fact that Steve gets the 'Married with Children' audience in for every speech he does. Hence the over the top reactions

There is not as much as we were hoping for, one of his most dissapointing keynotes.

yeah, one of the most disapointing year. I just don't understand why Steve said in january it would be a great year ...

well he's not going to say it's going to be a crap one is he  :p

we've still got half a year to go, but so far we've seen the iPod mini, G5 Xserves, iTMS for UK, France, Germany, with rest to come in a few months, 500MHz increase on top G5 with funky new cooling tech, new displays, portables updated, eMac updates, Airport Express, and new software announcements. ;)

I certainly don't think it's been a 'bad' year so far. ;) unfortunately people get suckered by the Rumour site hype, even when it's completely without foundation and then when said rumourware doesn't get announced everytime Jobs steps on stage, the Mac sites fill with winjers. :p

Apple cannot be expected to live up to such insane levels of rumour hype. period.

You can't please everyone I guess. ;)

I think core image is one of the most exiting things that I have seen in a long time, real time effects applied to video and stills could completely change the speed of which I can work. The amount of time spent waiting for contrast filters to take effect is ridiculous at present.

Personaly I was more than happy with this keynote, and the 30inch display definately belonged at a developers conference.... few home users will be able to afford one. Now if I can just convince my boss that I need it....

Just think that most of the disappointments will be address over the next year. We just need to be patient.
