Trash Button??

Does anyone know if Leopard still has an Empty Trash button if you open the trash in finder anymore???

I don't know whether it will be possible to go into "compatibility mode", but I guess not. It's not so much compatibility with Windows networks as it is incompatibility of foreign file systems with Mac OS concepts. If someone tries to put a label on a file on a Windows share, OS X stores this information in the ._ file. It has to do it somewhere, otherwise other users wouldn't be able to see it. So, what you are saying is that OS X shouldn't allow users to assign programs with which a document is opend and other such things to network files... or don't make such changes visible to other users (meta information would then be stored on the user's Mac). I don't think that they will do that any time soon, even though it would be preferable in many situations.

Not all meta-info is stored in the ._ files. When you assign an application to open a file type, that's local to your own machine. Comments, labels, file previews and whatnot are stored in the ._ files so you couldn't do that on a network share, but that's expected. Those are Mac-specific things and there's no expectation that they should stay there. I'd rather deal with educating our Mac users about that as opposed to arguing with the IS dept. about why the Macs shouldn't be replaced with Windows PCs.

In my experience, every Mac user I've ever dealt would prefer speed and access over labelling and comments. Hands down. Their jobs and productivity depend on speedy access to files, not colored labels. And anyway, there are network-friendly ways to store this info. Apple could do a DS_Store-like file to store meta-info. One file to hold labels and comments vs. hundreds. You'd get no argument from me.

i thought it interesting they left out the coolest part of quickview - the ability to watch a video full screen without starting up quicktime.

Ya!

Your right. I didn't even think of that. For those that just want full screen there is no need for QuickTime Pro now :)

I was talking about a specific file, not a file type. This information is stored in the ._ file. However, I'm not even sure that this makes sense. For home users maybe, but in a corporate environment? Why would everyone want to open a file with the same program I do?

On the other hand, Spotlight comments aren't stored in the ._ file. Sharing comments would have made much more sense.

I guess they just never thought this through even though they put a considerable amount of work into it (e.g. adapting dommand line utils).

Can someone comment on whether or not the new Front Row has a Play All or Shuffle feature in the TV Shows or Movies sections?

Can someone comment on whether or not the new Front Row has a Play All or Shuffle feature in the TV Shows or Movies sections? I would like to be able to play one after another without returning to the menu, particularly as I have mostly 5-8 minute cartoons in my library.

it doesnt yet but the front row in this build is very basic as it hasnt been fully finished, its just been slapped on from the apple tv. next beta it might...

^^^Thanks. I hope it does. It's disappointing that the AppleTV doesn't have that feature either. It's kept me from buying one so far.

Also interestingly Apple Remote desktop has been upgraded to 3.2, all the 10.4 macs are on 3.1
