hell yes, 2GB RAM needs to be standard.

For $2099, your getting a 2GHz Quad Core desktop, but a 2.16GHz Dual Core processor is $100 less and has a higher clock speed. Not to mention it has 1GB of RAM more than the Mac Pro and a DirectX10 Graphics card. I think that eventually when apple comes out, stock Mac Pro should be $2499 with a 2.66GHz two dual-core processor set, ATI radeon X2400 XT or 8500GT standard, with 8600GTS and Radeon X2600 XT optional.

We just arent really getting what we payed for...

The 8600 and 2600 XT suck, i think they both are just 256mb cards and might be an imac BTO.. it better be a 2900 XT or 8800, and the quadro 4600, 5500 on highest end for the MP.

Until they change to Seaburg (can't remember what Seaburg uses), they can only use FB-DIMMs.

I hope the Seaburg will bring the DDR3 Memory because I heard a lot of people said that FB-DIMMs are too expensive and are not designed for gaming. There are some gamers that use the Mac Pro for gaming. The newer memory will benefit all users.

DDR3 will be outrageous for a long time. Gamers should not be using a Mac Pro. Sorry, FB-DIMMs offer more stability, which will benefit the real Mac Pro users.

Gotta agree here. The MP is a workstation. Just because some gamers use it doesn't mean Apple should detract from their target market. Professionals (the Pro part of "Mac Pro") won't benefit from DDR3 any time soon.

If you want to game Apple pretty much ignores you. Yes, you can make do with a lot of their stuff. There isn't, though, an Apple "gaming" machine. I don't think there will be (anyone else remember the Pippin?)

Does it matter? A Mac Pro 2.66 with an upgraded graphics card and 4gb of RAM should smoke about any game. Reguardless of the RAM type..

I am an occasional gamer but I seen a couple of threads where people talk about games that are on their Mac Pros. I just thought that DDR3 memory will benefit them.

DDR3 will be very expensive for quite some time, some project 2009. FB-DIMM pricing is down to under $80/GB, which isn't bad IMO for ECC RAM.

Maybe they will be able to edge some speed out of them and get 800mhz. Who knows.

I don't think DDR3 is right for anyone at this point, heck there isn't much available at least to consumers.
