If I were you, I'd wait till The MacWorldExpo in January and if they do or don't release anything, I would still get it. This is because even if they do upgrade it in July you could easily sell your phone on a place like eBay, which would make up a large portion of what the new phone would cost you.

I don't understand this comment. If it's *announced* next month, it probably won't be *released* until July. There won't be any jumping on that model in January.

I was semi-planning to buy one before Christmas, but have decided to wait and see if anything is announced in January.

I shall buy an iPhone next month whatever happens at MW. I could get one this month, but having waited this long another month won't hurt. I don't want a 32GB; 16GB black is what I'd like. I don't really think anything significant will happen but I'd kick myself if it did and I had a one month old phone!

I'm not playing the waiting game and hanging on until the summer - with an 18 month contract it should lead quite nicely into summer 2010.

But that's what I'm saying. There won't be any 32 gb in January. There's a possibility it will be *announced* in January, but the chance that the actual phone will be available in January is almost nonexistent.

Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong on this one.

Why not? They added the 16GB model last year in early February, with what I believe was immediate availability. It's just a speed bump...not a major redesign.

(and for the record, I'm waiting for 32 GB too)

I'm happy with what I currently have. No plans to upgrade in the near (next year) future.

There are all sorts of posts explaining why the 16 -> 32 jump will be a lot more of a redesign than the 8 -> 16 jump. I just don't see them rolling this out in January. Announcing, possibly.

But like I said, I'll be thrilled if they prove me wrong.
