Seems it might be due to the background activity causing the phone to get warm. In my situation it was that, plus being in the car in the hot sun.

Thanks for sharing this. Mine was stuck at 81%. Did a hard reset, stuck at 83%. Did another hard reset, now stuck at 86%. My iPhone is little warm though, but not in a hot environment. I pulled it off the charger for now.

I have the same problem. I did it several times and now it's 100%. I will see if this problem persists.

I had the same when initially putting my back-up onto the iPhone X, got stuck at 80 or 81%.

When it's downloading all the apps, you'll notice your iPhone is running quite warm on the back.

Once everything is finished and the iPhone calmed down, a bit later it will resume charging and everything will be fine.
What i found last week were some posts mentioning that it's a protection against overheating the phone or something.

I think it's definitely an iOS bug. Surprised there wasn't an intermediary 11.1.1 release yesterday to fix the keyboard bug and these issues too.

If your device stopped charging at 80 percent
Your iPhone might get slightly warmer while it charges. To extend the lifespan of your battery, if the battery gets too warm, software might limit charging above 80 percent. Your iPhone will charge again when the temperature drops. Try moving your iPhone and charger to a cooler location.

From Apple's support website

This trickle charge and heat issue is annoying. I didn’t have this problem using a 7 plus and iPhones in the past.

For iPhone X :
After 80%, if the phone is slightly warm, the trickle charging is further capped. Sometimes I am plugged in (while using) and see the battery not charging at all. I have to stop using the phone or use it in a way that does not generate too much heat for the phone to start charging again.

Same here... Any solutions about this problem?

Saw an article from Apple about protecting the iPhone when temperature is high during charging and stop at about 80%

The battery charging will eventually goes past 80% very slowly

Unless you lock your screen and leave it unused

Thats what happen to me

Yeah this wasn’t happening to me until last night honestly. It’s probably a bug my phone would get warm but still charge however after last night it got warm and had to hard reset and force restart a couple times. After 80% it gets stuck at either 81,83,87,91 or 93 percent and after awhile the phone cools down and starts to charge extremely slow to 100%

I had a chat with an apple support thru the apple website. She said that this a new safety feature and she confirmed that yes it does stop charging when the phone gets warm. She recommended that we send a message to apple thru apple.feedback so that they’ll know about it. She said the more feedback the better.

Thanks for this info bro I thought I had a faulty phone or something. Hopefully it gets fixed soon because it’s kinda scary to just see it stuck there ya know? I’ll send a feedback review now. Hopefully the problem doesn’t persist often as I said before it just started to occur with me last night since I got the phone.

I'll post it again, as it seems people are just simply ignoring Apple's own support page.

Unfortunately it happens to me often. Just a tip, turning to airplane mode until the battery percentage moves works for me. I hope it works for you too. Good luck to us. Yeah hopefully they fix it on the next update.

Same boat here

Especially with the powerbank

Lock screen u might have different fate

Else use the ipad charger, it goes really slow beyond 80% whilst using it

Yes! This happens to me too! I have this powerbank and charges my iPhone X in my pocket. Later I took the phone out and it only charged until 80% but when I charged my iPhone 7 Plus and SE, they charged beyond 80% so I can safely rule out that the powerbank was faulty.

Anyone still having this issue? My phone is barely warm and it basically stops and hovers at 80 if I’m using the phone. Low brightness, just safari.

When you set up your device for the first time the iPhone gets hot, apple explicitly explains on their site that the iPhone will stop charging to 80% if it deems it is too hot. This can be fixed by restarting your phone or waiting for it to cool down.

I have been having the same problem. My phone gets warm, I charged it all night and it remained at 83%. I took it back to Apple and they gave me a new one and it did the same thing. I’m going to try to do the hard reset a couple of times to see if it works. Fingers crossed!
