I'm guessing if you wait until a reasonable hour the next morning it will be sold out for at least 6-8 weeks but we'll see.

A lot of people went with the iPhone 8 so demand might not be as brisk as expected for the iPhone X. I'm going to try to order when it goes live with the hope that I can get it before Thanksgiving week. I'm interested in comparing it to my Note 8 to see which one I'll keep. If demand *is* as high as expected, I could probably sell my iPhone X for a substantial profit if I decide against it. If I keep the iPhone, I'll take a hit on the Note--but not that bad since I got it on sale anyway.

Take this with a grain of salt, but it seems that the iPhone X's production begins next week. Some have already anticipated that some buyers will be waiting until Jan/Feb or possibly March. The same situation occurred with the Jet Black. I was not able to get my hands on a Jet Black until the second week of January. Mind you, the 7/7Plus launched in Sept.
Next week? It has already started..they won’t produce like 12 million on launch day if they have;’t even started yet

I think many folks are going to be surprised when they find out Apple is not so incompetent when it comes to meeting demand as fake tech news sites claim. Heck I read a tech site two days ago that claimed the 8+ was going to be released at the same time as the X. I read that on my new 8+. Boy was I surprised! o_O

There will be some X's available in your local Apple stores and phone dealers on release day. And probably more than folks think.

I believe at this point if I get one before Christmas, I'll be happy with that. I'll be up at 3am trying att, apple and the apple store app
!!

Macrumors folks are not the typical iPhone buyer. My guess is most on this forum at get the order in within 5 minutes will get it on 11/3. Not all people are crazed like us.

Here here. We are the 0.001%. And not in a good way! In a dorky (yet charming) Apple way!
[doublepost=1506469201][/doublepost]We have all seen this before - or as the Americans say this is not our first rodeo.

Take the news with a grain of salt. We can't lose sight that Apple is a brilliant marketing machine: it's their mission to get us excited. And nothing gets us excited (and up at midnight) like the fear of a short supply of a new iPhone.

Yes. I think that people here are blowing this way out of proportion. If you order within the first 5 minutes of preorders opening, like most people here are no doubt planning, and you don't get your phone until 2018, when will all the "normal" consumers get theirs? Apple isn't perfect, but their not so stupid as to launch a flagship product so woefully unprepared to fill even the first wave of orders.

I bet that everyone here who preorders from Apple on Oct 27th gets their phone within a week or two of launch. Many will no doubt get it on Nov 3rd. I mean someone has to.

Not even getting one, but I would guess:

First 30 secs: Nov 3 (First batch)
2-5 mins: Mid Dec (Holiday batch)
After that: Jan-April

How do you go about ordering one within the first 30 seconds? Yes yes, be very quick and decisive on what model/size you want, but has anyone here tried to put the phone they wanted in the 'favorites' section and then just order it from there? Seems to me like it would be the fastest way, but I'm not sure if it works that way on launch day (errors, etc).

12 million phones will deliver on Nov 3rd. Y’all are panicking over nothing, it will be no worse than a normal iPhone preorder.

Again, ridiculous. If anyone who doesn’t order in the first 5 minutes doesn’t get a phone for 2-5 months then there was no point to “launching” the phone is 2017 at all.

Exactly. I don’t know that we can confirm that exact number, but you don’t do a major product launch like this without millions of units ready to go on day 1. Like I said, probably everyone here who seriously wants one will be able to get it in the first week.

Nov 3rd is already a long time to wait :(

I agree! So painful. The 7 was the first new iPhone I didn't get so it's been extra long for me. I know...first world problems. I can't help it...

Every year (save last year) I've tried to order as soon as I could after midnight. Every year something happens and the drama continues to about 25 or 30 minutes after launch.

Can people who successfully ordered in the first few minutes are their best practices? I promise I won't tell anyone else in this forum.

The other thing that restricts those who want to upgrade, if they don't have their credit card/billing information up-to-date or shipping information up-to-date with Apple. Once you have Apple Pay set up, it's also fairly quick process. But it should not take very long once you have the iPhone preselected you want, followed by the checkout process.
