This makes sense, X’s algorithm helps to coalesce people of a particular view type.

Now they’ll be able to communicate, very securely, their theories of humanity. And to organise public meet-ups where they let normal people know just how dumb and hateful they are.

Curious what you're messaging that you require encryption?

All messaging requires encryption.

Just because something isn't illegal now doesn't mean it won't be later and if someone has your messages then they have a case against you already.

The moment I hear this point, I wonder how many people study history or read books these days...

Funny thing about encrypted messages is they are on at least TWO phones (more if a group chat). All it takes is one phone that is available/unlocked or a willing owner and your encrypted message is right there! How many times have we seen leaked Signal messages because someone had the message on their phone for all to see?

If that's a concern you're probably better off meeting in person in the desert and speaking in tongues.

Dumbest idea ever. Forcing us to put in a 4 digit code just to access our messages? NO THANKS. I dont do 2fa on anything. dumbest idea by musk.
You may regret not using 2FA when a breach happens on your account. However by the same token, the same kind of breach can occur on you phone number via 2FA. I'd rather them have my phone number than my account.

End to end encryption keeps Mallory out.

That is the security guarantee.

Historically Mallory has been almost 100% malicious, nefarious or puts your personal liberty and security at risk.

Agreed. Also things that are acceptable now can be taken out of context in the future and viewed in a negative light.

Or it could be sharing confidential personal / medical / financial info.

If I needed solid secure messaging I have signal, I don’t see how this has any foothold in the market since it is coming from behind.

As an IT security professional, I'm having trouble reconciling "end-to-end encryption" with "not protected against man-in-the-middle attacks." I think one of these things doesn't mean what Musk thinks it means...
As someone not on the IT field, this also brought my attention… does that mean that other E2EE messaging apps such as WhatsApp are also able to intercept our messages? Because unlike Telegram, WhatsApp isn’t pursued by many governments…

2FA is a dumb idea? Hmmm? 🤨

I understand if you find 2FA to be annoying, but that shouldn't make it dumb. It protects a lot of dumb people, from themselves.

But what is this 4-digit code talk all about? Is this new Chat app implementing its own code that people need to remember? That would be kinda crazy, I agree.

I suspect they are claiming e2e while implementing it differently. Likely multiple encrypted "pipes" that the message passes through, and one involves a global key that they (X) hold.

Who on earth would trust such and untrustworthy person? Wouldn't use this even if you paid me. Bonkers that anyone would. Let's hear bets for how many days until Musk files a lawsuit complaining that Apple is to blame for lack of usage of his "private" chat app.
