I’d get XS but that’s just me. If only X vs XR that’s a nobrainer. XR. More storage. Faster processor. Better camera. Longer battery. Easy choice.

but the display on the XR is absolutely unacceptable at that price point IMHO.

I really can’t figure out why people say this, [I also remind myself that is a tech forum]. The fact that the XR display is vastly similar to the iPhone 8 display, do you think consumers really care about the resolution? Think about that for minute, the consumer all see’s the form factor, Face ID, camera, things that they actually care about, not the LCD display that Apple has been using that is the best panels in the industry. If there was anything limiting XR experience, it isn’t the LCD display.

In your post, both phones have different storage options, obviously one was 64 GB and the other with 128 GB, what are your storage needs? Would you easily fill the capacity of the 64 GB quicker or would you rather have the 128GB? Obviously you like both phones, but I think storage should be equally as important in your phone consideration.

To be honest 64gb is fine for me but the option of 128gb for an extra £50 seems like a good option, the reason I added it in as I can either get the X 64gb or Xr 128gb for the same price.

Overall I think I am leaning towards the Xr but I prefer the size of the X.

Thanks for all of the opinions guys it gives me a lot to think about

X hands down! It’s not even a question. Take both in your hands at night and watch a video. No comparison! Different strokes for different folks but the display on the XR is absolutely unacceptable at that price point IMHO.

Yep, I’m with this. Screen is better on the X.
I like the Xr very much (my wife has one), but personally I use 3D Touch a lot and I wouldn’t want to lose this lovely feature. V useful!

Thanks, everyone, ended up going for the X deciding factor was the size and I was able to get it £60 cheaper than the Xr

Another reason was that I am an iOS Developer and if I wanted to test 3D touch features I may need to carry two phones as the simulator is not 100% reliable.

Wasn’t expecting the iOS dev thing but congrats.

Thanks, cant wait for it to arrive now!

I would have went for the Xs but just cannot justify paying an additional £300 for it!! Even though its a good upgrade in pretty much every way.

After seeing the love the Xr gets on this forum, I am hoping I am making the right choice!

Did you go with very.co.uk ? I’ve ordered the 64gb X with the £320 off (works out at £680) but the XS equivalent works out at £850 with the discount they are giving. I’m considering going with the XS instead. I’ll just have to decide which one to open and which one to return lol.

Hey guys, I have narrowed my choice down to two. I can either get a brand new iPhone X 64gb or a brand new iPhone Xr 128gb. They both work out the same price.

What what you prefer if you had the choice and why?

my decision seems like a mess at the moment.

iPhone 8 is the better choice. Enough said.

How is the iPhone 8 the better choice? I can maybe see an argument for an 8 plus.

I should have specified... I meant the 8 Plus.

But that iPhone 8 isn’t even a consideration for the OP. It’s between the X and XR. You’re suggestion isn’t valid in that regard. I would have opted for the X personally Over the XR.

I know and I was correcting him because it shouldn't be left out. Its a better phone than the 10 series because it offers so much more for less. Its also not ugly.

I went from a Galaxy S9+ back to Apple for now... I looked at all the phones, and as much as everyone hypes AMOLED, the reality is that the difference between that and LCD, is minimal. Apple has the best LCD panel on the market. You have to have them side by side and know what to look for...

The XS Max does have a really nice screen. Is it $500 worth better? Nope.

The XR is where it's at. 128GB for $799, has the best battery life of all of them, is pocket friendly while still offering a 6.1" screen, has the same A12 CPU, etc...

Unless you just want bragging rights, there really isn't an advantage to spending more on the XS/Max, which is probably why sales are lower than expected...

The main reason I went for X over Xr is size factor. The Xr is a great phone it is just slightly too big for me to use 1 handed easily. I wonder if I could get used to it...

I don’t care bout LCD vs OLED as I think the LCD on Xr looks great and even comparing it against my girlfriends Xs I couldn’t really see any difference.

I have not opened the X yet. I might go back to apple store to have 1 last look at the Xr...

For the most part, you can get away with singe handed use, but I have come to accept that I have to use it with two hands a lot.

I'm in the same boat. I did see today that Verizon is offering $400 off the X Thursday and Friday, so that is what I'm going with. Granted it's through bill credits, but at only $20/mo after the credit, that is better than $31.

I'm also torn between X 64GB and XR 64GB. They are the same price and I really cannot justify paying any more than that to get XS instead. I like about X that you can get nice Apple leather case (I really like) for it and it is slightly more pocket friendly. XR with case would be even too large to fit in some of my jackets pocket.

I've seen XR and the screen looks fine to me, so I could live with LCD and I sometimes use 1-2 hours navigation with display on all the time and I'm worried if OLED would get burn in from that?

Also I'm worried if the camera is really so much worse in X than in XR despite or the dual sensor system. I've seen some photo and portrait comparisons where XR has been preferred over XS, so will X be a real dissapointment with smaller sensor and blurrier photos due to that?

I know X is older technology but would it really make any practical difference? I'm planning to keep the phone for two years, but I thought the same less than a year ago when I got my current phone. This time I think two years is likely since now I would be stepping up to new button free system with all the recent gimmicks.

A8 devices can't run ARKit apps, much less Core ML.
Can't think of a single ARkit app that I would want to use, don't even know what CoreML is...

A11 vs A12 is pretty much irrelevant when 6S is still supported by both Apple and app developers.

I would choose the X but save a bit more money so you can get at least a 128gb model. For me 64gb would not do, but maybe for you, it will.
there is no 128 model

You'll be fine. I use Waze on my X while I drive and haven't even seen a hint of ghosting after a year, let alone burn-in. Pretty sure it was determined through testing that you'd have to have a static image on your screen for 19 hours before you'd have to worry.

That's good to hear. So the screen is about as robust as what is used in iWatch? I've never seen any signs of retention with that.
