For "Stable FPS", it's better to choose XB1, it will maintain 60FPS with variable resolution. However, the PS4 choose the traditional PC route, constant resolution but variable FPS.

Destiny runs better on PS4 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-destiny-face-off

A strenuous performance analysis of Destiny reveals a strict 30fps average for both PS4 and Xbox One. However, Microsoft's platform suffers to a greater extent from frame-pacing stutters, whereas Sony's hardware has relatively few issues.

----------

Which to choose? Simple answer is... both. But I want the best possible experience of Destiny. Which platform gives better only for this game?

To get the best out of Destiny you'll probably want the PS4 version, it's got some timed-exclusive content too.
Other than that just measure up the upcoming exclusives and unique features of both systems.

Any tutorials on removing the internal drive on the seagate portable external drives for use with the ps4? I figure I'd do it from the get go and put the 500 gb from the ps4 into the enclosure.

Xbox One vs. PS4

I literally just did EXACTLY that this weekend. Bought the 2TB seagate and took it out of the enclosure.

First, important.... FORMAT the usb drive as FAT32 first before doing anything. Afterwards you an do the update :)

Also update your PS4 to latest software 2.03 as older software/firmware has problems seeing the 2TB drives.

----//-----

To remove from the enclosure pry the case apart with force but carefully and the top part lifts off.

It's actually a Samsung drive inside.

Unscrew the 4 holder screws on the sides of the drive, and gently take off the silver sticky part protecting the usb/sata interface.

Take off the PS4 cover, unscrew the one big screw and slide the drive out from the side, unscrew the drive from its bracket and swap it out.

Screw in the 2Tb Samsung. Slide it back into PS3 and screw it back together and slide on the cover.

Connect the power and Turn in your ps4 in safe mode by holding down power button for 7 seconds then let go.

You will get a safe mode menu. Connect your controller via usb cable to ps4 (press ps home button) and go down to the option (re-initialise new installation) it's the last option.

Now insert a USB thumb stick with the 2.03 re-install software downloaded onto it. It's 752mb. This was the most awkward for me as I didn't multiple times and it would not read it from my UsB no matter what (just gave me an error).

You must download EU version or US version but finding EU version for me was a nightmare. Eventually found it from a link on the support forum someone shared.

Basically assuming you have the correct update in your memory stick in the PS4 folder - UPDATE folder. Your PS4 will basically now format and reinstall system software.

After few minutes it will restart your ps4 once or twice, then your back at first initial setup of PS4. Connect your wifi, log into your account etc.

Then your sorted, just have to re-download any PSN stuff and all your game updates which was a lot for me.

- Then reassemble the 500gb drive - hook it up to your computer and reformat ....

Sorted :)

Awesome info. So fat32 format before removing. Put the latest firmware update on the usb stick I actually want to use the ps4 500 gb hd in the seagate enclosure. Should be ok?

Correct. Format seagate drive as Fat32 because it comes pre formatted as NTFS. Update your PS4 to the latest firmware as it needs it for bigger drive support. Download re-installation firmware onto USB thumb stick.

Yep, re:using the 500gb - that's exactly what I have done too :) seems wasteful otherwise.

For me the 2tb seagate external worked out cheaper than buying a 2tb internal too (Black Friday deal from PCWorld here)

I am using the 500gb as a timemachine backup for my MacBook Pro and works great too.

Sony network just got hacked, HARD - again.

The Playstation Network got hit a couple years ago and was shut down for weeks. Now this?

I am thinking that if online anything is involved, Sony may not be ready for prime time.

http://arstechnica.com/security/201...ckers-release-list-of-stolen-corporate-files/

Sony are perfectly ready, NO system is 100% secure. And the hacking group claiming responsibility also hacked the Xbox Live the other week and took it down, they are not picking on Sony. They have also claimed they will make it hell for gamers over Christmas, nice people.

As for which console to buy, well, you need to ask your son what he friends use and also need to look at what tames he likes.
We all have our personal preferences with consoles, but when it comes to advising someone you need to forget the one you have as it may not he right for you.

Also exclusives, for instance Destiny is available across the board but Sony Kate pushing it the hardest as they get exclusive features, and it can buy the same with some Xbox games.

If none of your sons friends have a game console the I would lean more towards Sony, became Xbox Live can be full of foul mouthed idiots, it seems to have a reputation for it. With Sony's online service you get foul mouthed people but they are not as bad, and people aren't so forthcoming to speak when playing games unlike Xbox.

But yeah, if you son likes Tomb Raider buy a PS4, if he likes Call Of Duty get him an Xbox One and some ear plugs he he. If you want the more powerful console buy the PS4, if your son likes interacting with the console then get him an Xbox One with the camera.

I have the PS4 and the Xbox One. Personally, I'm disappointed in the games offered for them. Of course, we have the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, too. I found the same problem with the 360 and PS3. Not that many kid friendly games. The Wii is a game system that was made friendly for families. Four people can play it and it's about family fun. I don't find that in any of our other consoles.

On the Xbox One we have Just Dance which is a big hit when the girls have company over. Zoo Tycoon is another Xbox One game that is family friendly. On the 360, the girls liked the Kinect games. The PS3 and PS4 games were mostly not age appropriate for them.

The Wii, was the opposite, I found only a couple games that I had to decide not to buy.

I was using it as an example, although both platforms have all types of games, Playstation offers more sort of adventure games and Xbox is known for having more shooting games. If you see what I mean?

Chances are that's the reason why Microsoft paid for exclusivity on Tomb Raider. To get more single player adventure titles when the PS4 will have Uncharted soon.

Oh yes... cannot wait for Uncharted :) and yeap your probably right, I mean Sony have been advertising the snot out of GTA on the PS4.
I'm just happy Microsoft are catching up now, so it can be a two horse race and us consumers are the winners :)

At the moment there are more games on the one that I want to play than the ps4..I might get myself an xbox for my 30th in March.

Yeah, real nice people. Just want to mess up gamers at Christmas. I can't even figure out what group would like that.

But this is the second time Sony has been hit hard like this. Never mind the 'North Korea Hack.' Also, down for weeks because of lack of security is pretty heavy. Anyone can get hacked once, but when it keeps happening over and over, I start becoming concerned about their cyber security.

Also, they did author the rootkit fiasco a few years back (search for Sony Rootkit. The idea of Sony deciding if I should be allowed to uninstall their software that calls home to mommy is not something I shall soon forget.)

So I play Xbox over Playstation

I own a P4 and I hate it. Its a cruel joke. I find myself being amazed by what it cannot or does not do as opposed to what it can or does. Its the opposite to all previous iterations of Playstation. I wont get my money back now and I wouldnt dare swap it for an Xbone because, in my humble opinion, Xbone is a cruel joke too. You can pretend and debate but its reasonably plain to see. The issue, as far as im concerned, is that both are unnacceptable as 'next gen' consoles. Yet here we have a debate over which ugly sister to be seen with. Microsoft and Sony dont give a second thought as to which hag Id rather finger bang because the joke is on me either way. Its the illusion of choice, both consoles are fundamentally awful and whichever is chosen there will always be a nasty feeling, perhaps kept secret out of embarrassment, that the other guys grass is a whole lot greener. Well, unless that guy owns a PC, it aint. Its black and its white so, unless of course you consider yourself a chump, id have to advise you to get a decent PC and save yourself a monumental headache.

Haha, you really don't like these systems do you!

I think the PS4 does need to improve the breadth of solutions that the PS3 offers. I still use my PS3 for all media playback because it supports everything I need it to; streaming from PC, USB/drive media support, Netflix and bluray... all with a dedicated remote control! It's lower power usage guarantees it's all I'm going to use for a long time.

The big thing for me is Vita remote play. It's just an incredible feature. Almost lag-free, 60fps remote playing any PS4 game around the house is great for me. Plus after a day of work with a keyboard and mouse I've started to abandon PC gaming.

I own both machines for quite a few months now. TBO, both machines works OK if you consider they are simple game consoles. Don't expect anything more than that. Especially if you already have an account from the last generation. Just turn it on, log in, download the game, and play.

However, in general, I prefer the XB1 more than the PS4. XB1 is super quiet, PS4 sounds like a jet engine relatively.

In terms of graphic, PS4 may be better (better GPU) but I can't tell the differences, both machines hooked to a 84" 4K TV. May be because I turn on quite a few processing functions on the TV (I need the up scaling anyway), it make them looks very close.

However, since the XB1 CPU can handle more items on the screen (better CPU), sometimes the XB1 graphics actually looks better (e.g. more moving objects on the screen when playing some open world game). But again, the difference is not that noticeable.

For the UI, I prefer the XB1 more than the PS4. Easier to select the game that I want from the dashboard.

Controller, I prefer the XB360 controller more than anything. More comfortable, more precise input from the analog input (better spring strength inside and better "dead zone" definition). But if I must pick one between XB1 and PS4, again, I pick XB1. A more make sense trigger design.

So far, the killer function on the PS4 is play games via Vita. It works extremely well. Now, my wife can play her PS4 games in the bedroom, and I play my XB1 games on the TV at the same time.

Apart from playing games. PS4 is hopeless, almost no extra useful function, no even able to play MP4. XB1, a little bit better, but still far away from what MS announced (an amazing home entertainment system).

About the games. I am now only playing download games, I have 1000Mbps internet connection, to download a multi GB game only need 5min. Works much better than go out and buy a disc. Also no disc installation, no need to stand up and change disc (when I want to chance game), and no optical drive noise. Since XB1 is so weak in the market, their special offers for gold members usually quite good. Not the newest game, but very cheap. I only buy those special offers, and now still have around 20 good games (not counting the rubbish free games). On the other hand, PS4 games are much more expensive due to lack of special offer for the digital version. However, even though PS4 have more game choice. I only have around 5 good games so far. Basically that's due to no XB1 version (all Japanese game so far).

If anyone concern more about game choices, PS4 should be a better choice (unless you are looking for the new Tomb Raider).

For those who prefer a silent machine, XB1 is definitely your choice at this moment. Until, Sony make a quiet PS4 V2.

If you want anything more than a gaming machine, better don't buy them now. The OS is just not here yet.

For gamers looking for quality. Please build your own PC, both machines can't even beat the last generation PC on the graphics.

Haha yes its fair to say feel very frustrated with both. As you quite rightly pointed out the P4 has some shortcomings when compared to its predecessor regarding media support. The fact that I can watch say Breaking Bad (Sony Pictures) on a usb stick through either my Samsung TV or my PC but not on Sony's newest Playstation to me is simply wrong. In an attempt to monopolize the market Sony have effectively told me what I should and shouldnt be doing with their console. I wont buy Sony henceforth for that reason alone. The paradigm seems to have shifted from what id like to see in the product as a consumer to what Sony wants to see in it as a corporation, alarm bells are ringing. The P4 wont even play a dvd out of the box and thats not ok. So I do wonder then, are they going to rid Playstation of an optical drive? Usb slots and maybe even the hard drive? Will I own my games or will they be rented from Sony with in-app purchase as standard? Bearing in mind they already started charging psn rental I have to say something doesnt feel right. Changes are happening as we speak but I have no confidence that any of them will be for the benefit of the consumers who have invested their time and money. That, if true, is not cricket. I accept that the P4 has a few great features as well as Xbone, I just urge caution not to get distracted by gimmicks that dont have the wow factor. Vita support, if lacking on the P4, would be an utter outrage so it always needed that one. There is nothing remotely special about it and that my good man is entirely the point im making. P4\Xbone do nothing to turn consumers on, quite the opposite in fact. Its such a shame. I havent even mentioned the 900p limit for the xbox which is so unbelievably sub-standard it boggles the mind that anyone has bought one at all.

Good lord. You no longer have to stand up to change the disc? Have some self respect man. Perhaps youd like it to chew your food for you? Try leaving the house and investing in your local shops before your town becomes economically depressed. Youll likely find that rather upsetting. You sir are an unwitting financial terrorist, an incredibly lazy one at that. What kind of argument is that I mean really. Wake up and start thinking. May I ask how, in your opinion, is downloading a game better than going out and buying it on a disk? A convenient feature it may be but it sounds to me that youve found it a much better experience. So my question then is how so? My apologies if you suffer from agrophobia, or are in any other way housebound but I didnt get that from your post. In reality these should be regarded as accessibility features for the unwell or disabled beause in that respect they work very well. But you seem to rely on them. Why? You choose not to stand to change your disc but at least you have that option. You wouldnt use a wheelchair if you didnt have to because for an able bodied person thats so pathetic and lazy, people just cringe at the very thought of it. Or maybe you would? I dont know.

??? Please buy a ticket and come to Hong Kong to talk to me directly but don't use this free Internet forum.

It's a choice for different people. The technology now can make my life easier, why not use it? Why using it is a fault? An unwitting financial terrorist? Are you going to kill airlines because you use internet?

I guess your logic behind is because my action is killing the game stores, and eventually they closed, the online store can mark up the price as much as they want. Isn't it?

In fact, some games only offer digital version now, because they are cheaper to publish. Which is favour for small companies. You go to buy disc? Do you want to kill those small companies?

Did you see that how much the PC games digital version are selling on steam? do you realise most of the games on the mobile platform are very cheap? They never ever provide any disc version.

Should we go for digital is an extremely complex debatable topic. I respect you that still going for the disc route. Can you respect the others want to move forward, and going for the digital version?

You may be right, may be eventually we have less good game, more expensive, and no 2nd hand market. But may be we will have more good small games, cheaper, and have digital 2nd hand market. I don't think anyone can precisely predict the outcome of this digitalisation. May be the market will go to a new equilibrium position that no one can predict. Why blame the others?

No need to be aggressive. Whilst I don't think that post was aimed at me, I also try and get all my games on download. I didn't used to for PS3 but for PS4 it means I can be elsewhere in the house and play all my PS4 games on the Vita without changing the discs over. I have a PS4 in my holiday home as well so it saves on packing games.

Do you live in a place with independent game shops? All we have are the chain ones and they're pretty bad so I don't begrudge anyone avoiding those kind of places. Used to go to an independent one until they shut down but that was back in the early 2000's!

I too have gone all digital. No game discs for me. And I don't care about reselling a disc after done with it to recoup some of the money.
That's for the cheap playstation owners not for us xbox owners who are the elite :D

Ok, perhaps I have been too aggresive and I apologise if I have offended anyone. However for the sake of prudence I stick by my analogy. To answer your question first Dagless, no there are no longer any small or independent video game retailers in my town, except the pawn shops, but they dont specalise and the games are used and therefore do nothing for the people making the games. I think the business model for small game retailers got pretty bad so it makes more sense and really doesnt take much of a transition to have a pawn shop instead. I have to then advocate that these shops didnt just die, rather the bussiness model had to change in the name of profit. You are indeed correct about the timing of this but I feel it would be a mistake to imply these shops and their owners disappeared. They became pawn shops I think.

h9826790, first off I must respectfully decline your offer of speaking to you in Hong Kong, where it more geographicaly conveniant for me to do so it would have been a pleasure. As distasteful as you may find it, this free internet forum is what I choose to use, your point is however taken. So I do understand that digital games are much cheaper to produce, I do though find myself perplexed concerning their price. If any game costs more to produce then surely said cost burdens me as the consumer because it should be reflected in the price I pay. So the market should always decide wether or not it is worth the price. So why then is it then that games like The Witcher 3 for example are the same price at Asda (CD, box, literature and map) as the digital only version on psn? Thats not right, you get essentially half a product for the price of the full one. So I must disagree that by buying what games have always been, a hard copy with a box, I am therefore killing of an industry. Yes I am suggesting that buying digital only games will kill off a secondhand market and yes I do believe that would be a catastrophe. I remember being a kid with a PS2 and some pocket money and the best thing was going into town to pick up a pre owned game that I could afford. So its at this point I would like to mention that you cant use hard currency on psn, so you will need your parents or whoever else (providing they have access to a bank account) to upload their card details onto a network that isnt secure and also approve of the content you wish to download, not to mention the fact that youll need a lot more pocket money. I guarantee that will be a bit of a problem sales wise for developers like Rockstar. Its elitist and short sighted in my opinion. Regardless of what I think youare indeed correct in this instance, only time will tell. One last thing Mr. h9826790. Airlines as an example? That was never going to fly.

Bravo to you good sir, you truly are raising the bar. Self centred and arrogant, an example if ever there was one, of a true gentleman. Bravo. Giving your old games away for free is actually a very careful and noble thing to do regardless of your financial situation and so I can only hope that is what you where supposed to convey in this message but I doubt it. May I ask are your vast riches held in the form of paper notes?

Haha, for me, digital version is cheaper, because I have 4 Xboxes. I only have to buy once and then have 4 copies, I can even play co-op via the intranet. However, that's what I can't do with a single disc.

I am sure both MS and Sony know this multiple copy issue. And they actually intentionally allow user to do that for promoting the digital path. And of course, they know that they are selling "half game" to us as you said, so they offer us something back. However, not all digital users can enjoy this benefit.

Anyway, even though I am a lazy guy, I am not that extreme lazy. However, my wife love to sleep on my lap when I playing games. Wake her up just for changing disc is something I would like to avoid. I do that for love, haha. And seriously, brings the disc up and down stairs is not fun at all. Besides, my wife play games as well. And I never know where she last play a particular disc. If I want to find a disc, I may need to boot up to 3 Xboxes one by one (the disc may be in one of the tray). Digital copy works better for me in this aspect. I was a total disc guy, even though I own 4 Xboxes. However, in one occasion, one of the game I want to play had very good offer on the Xbox live store, $15 cheaper than the cheapest (new) disc I can get. So, I give it a try, and then I realise that works so much better for me. And now, I am a digital guy.

Hopefully both market will growth in parallel. I don't want to force anyone go for the digital route, and I also want to keep the advantage that I can enjoy by playing the digital version.

P.S. Love this forum, the members here really have good quality. Everyone have temper, including myself. But we know how to go back to the correct track for productive discussion, and learn something.

yeah yeah yeah
You advocate for discs and the big corporate evil companies and me like digital.
Nobody cares what you or I think and that's all there is to it. No need to give people life lessons.
Get over it and move on.
