They probably view it as a squared-off version of the XB controller.I agree with @jent! Where's the love for the Switch Pro Controller?
Are the two Xbox controllers so different that they need to update something? I guess it was naive of me to think that “basically the same buttons + Bluetooth” means you can use the Series S/X controller right away.If you aren't planning on purchasing a Series X/S console, you might as well just get a XB1 S controller. Less expensive and same basic ergonomics.
Wired is different than wireless. Easier to support. Feral didn't make the controller work in the OS, apple and Microsoft did. Microsoft clearly made a change with the new controllers as the previous ones work fine. Microsoft is working with apple on support for the new controllers since they changed something. Not a big deal. How odd.
I have Feral’s ported racing game Dirt4 installed on my iMac since Mojave, and the game supports my OLD GENERATION XBox wired (yes wired USB) controller. I didn’t even need to download some klunky kext file. It just worked.
Maybe Apple just needs to hire software devs/ coders from Feral? No wait, that won’t happen.... it makes too much sense. 🤓
I can't comment on the use of the Nintendo Pro Controller, but I got an 8BitDo SN30Pro+ controller last week. Switch, iOS, Android, Windows all supported. 20hr battery life, rechargable, or just use AAs if needed.I'll hijack this thread just to say I really wish the Nintendo Pro Controller would get added. I'm not sure if it's Apple or Nintendo that's responsible for the lack of compatibility but it would be a great addition to further expand Apple into the gaming ecosystem.
Correct, and it's in beta.
No, get the X/S controller. The d-pad is vastly improved, the ergonomics are better believe it or not, the triggers and handles have grips, and the RB/LB buttons are much better positioned and shaped. Don’t get an Xbox One controller. If you aren't planning on purchasing a Series X/S console, you might as well just get a XB1 S controller. Less expensive and same basic ergonomics.
They seem like a good company and the products are well-liked by their customers, so I will indeed keep them in mind for the future. I guess my disappoint comes less from my personal ability to connect the Switch Pro Controller and more from the fact that as two large companies they aren't making it straightforward to regular folks who wouldn't buy third-party controllers or search complex how-tos to jerry-rig incompatible controllers. While the current support for controllers is great for a majority of gamers, there are probably millions of people around the world that have an Apple product and a Nintendo Switch but not any of the other major consoles.I can't comment on the use of the Nintendo Pro Controller, but I got an 8BitDo SN30Pro+ controller last week. Works wonderfully on my iPad on iPadOS 14.2.
They aren't that different at all. The One S controllers lack the new share button featured on the Series controllers. Are the two Xbox controllers so different that they need to update something? Yeah no. If the user isn't getting a Series console, there's no need to get the Series controller. The d-pad is improved (vastly? ymmv). The ergonomics are nearly the same except the textured grips. We do agree the Series Controller is better, but the One S controller is still great. All of the perceived advantages you mentioned would mean nothing to someone like Franz who is unfamiliar with XBOX controllers. A One S controller would be perfect for use with iOS devices. Tailor the recommendation to the person, not the specs. No, get the X/S controller. I don't understand why a bluetooth adapter is needed to get the controller to work with a Windows or Mac PC. What's special about that adapter that makes it required beyond any regular bluetooth device?

Don't know if it was just my sample but my XB1 S controller was junk with uneven feeling buttons. XB Series X/S along with PS5 Dualsense controllers are better.
I assume they mean the Series X|S controller; as far as I know both consoles have the same controller, just a different paint job.
Just to clarify to avoid confusing others -- for those wondering if there was a difference between the X and S controllers, the original poster is correct and was simply stating the difference between the Series X and Series S controller is they are exactly the same, just different colors ("different paint job" aka painted different colors). In no way were they making any claim that the method of painting was different between the X, S, or One controllers. Not a different paint job, they're the same color. Different texture though. And different D pad. And a new share button.
I have controllers from the one, oneX and seriesX.
You’ll have XCloud soon. And Stadia (if it even exists in a month)Oh cool, so you can play the wonderfully curated game selection on Apple Arcade............come on Apple! Let us have xCloud already!

Wtf ... so are the iOS / tvOS 14.3 aren’t supporting ps5 / amazon Luna controller ?MacRumours incorrectly reported that support for DualSense was already added in the new betas in a previous article. That rumour spread around fast. Got me all excited for nothing![]()
Blizzard worked hard to made day one native ARM support for macOSI got a xbox series X last week with the launch. I had a PS4 for 7 years. It is like the Mac arcade box that I aways wanted from Apple. With it's super fast AMD processor and graphics chip it is fantastic. It is the replacement for bootcamp when it finally goes away with Apple. With a 144hz refresh rate and 120fps on my Samsung g7 32in gaming monitor it is truly amazing for gaming. With the ability with remote game play with xcloud, it is truly what gaming is all about. I will still use the Mac OS X and system for work but gaming is gone and no simple IOS game is going to replace it for real professional gamers. And the new controler is great! I got the 1TB Seagate SSD card for the xbox and this is so cool. I can add games to the cartridge and label it and swap it in and out. the new Sony PS5 is not easy to put in new SSD storage and I can see neophytes, static shocking there M2 SSD card as they install and remove the card inside the PS5.
