There are plenty of macOS apps called xchat app already. Why did these blockheads at Twitter steal the same name? Utterly braindead idiots.
Twitter was a great place to really discuss across the spectrum.. sure it was a hot mess of arguments and stubbornness, but it still allowed for genuine discussion. Twitter is dead. The bird was murdered. X is not Twitter. It just looks a bit like it. Like a zombie Twitter, it looks a bit like it, but the bird you knew is dead, this soulless creature has no affection to reciprocate.

You seem to think they're misguided.
Plenty are

he bought Twitter and ruined it for a lot of people who enjoyed it.

considering it's still running after he fired 90% of the staff, shipped many features, and has had record active users time and time again, I'd say it's far from ruined.

a lot of people seem to think Twitter was all sunshine and rainbows when really it was a multi billion dollar sinkhole and that was before advertising dollars took a massive hit globally.

you had twitter staffers celebrating the banning of certain individuals that they did not like as shown from leaked slack messages.

the fact that you think the discussion was genuine when in reality, a lot of discussion that you possibly did not like was prevented/hidden shows that people tend to only enjoy discussions when it's in their favor.

The social media bubble is a real issue. People surround themselves more and more with opinions that suite their beliefs and narrative. Only makes the problems worse.

I have difficulty seeing Twitter needs a chat app, but I don’t use it so I guess that is one reason lol. But I feel like there are enough of those apps already.

Now I understand the perspective of people who were confused and upset about Messenger being made into a separate app from Facebook.

Because this makes no sense to me and I do not understand it.
I suspect it's because Meta (Facebook) recognized that a lot of people joined or stayed because of their social networks, but the changes they kept forcing people to accept, like unasked-for suggestions in the timeline (which they suppress friends' posts for) were making a lot of people quit anyway. So Messenger may have been an attempt to retain those people with less tolerance for all that, to slow user base erosion without fixing the underlying problems.

You might very well ask how the concept may also apply to X. 😉

“Completely private.”

I’m genuinely surprised there’s enough actual people left on X for Musk to even think this might have an audience. Mostly the platform seems to be a bot playground these days
The bots across most of social media are off the charts. I am hopeful we are near a point where you can't trust anything on social media, so people just...stop.
