This is also not true. While many people might FEEL like these numbers are made up or as you said "not reflect anything" that is simply not true. There is a fiduciary duty when entering into a financial transaction with an investor or any other form of loan by which you are bound. This not only includes making proper choices for the company and the people in which you borrowed/took money from, but also to report the current financial standings, typically on a monthly cadence. This report is used to constantly determine the performance of the business and thereby the value of the business (aka the investment of the bank/VC/etc....)

One “data point” is a datum. Data is the plural of datum so data point is meaningless. 🤓
Technically we should say “The data show” rather than “The data shows”.

a lot of people seem to think Twitter was all sunshine and rainbows when really it was a multi billion dollar sinkhole and that was before advertising dollars took a massive hit globally.

Once all the mouth-breathing, basement dwelling conspiracy spouters got a "verified" check next to their name for $5 or whatever, it became the 4Chan of this decade.

If by "twitter" you mean X, it no longer retains an evaluation after being acquired by xAI which was then acquired by SpaceX. The entire point of Elon "raising" money to hide the financial issues of the business all while retaining relationships with large financial players. See he can pay them back by giving them the inside slot on SpaceX before it goes public. Now that all those investor's stocks are rolled into SpaceX, that is now what their stock value is based on. SpaceX is currently slated to go public this summer with a valuation of between 1.5 and 2 Trillion depending on how the next few tests go, geo-politics, and general market fluctuations. So he didn't need to make X or even xAI financially sound. He just brought them all under the one company and now can make the investors whole. The larger question is how long those divisions will last inside of a publicly traded company once their profit/loss numbers are disclosed.

That's what it's synonymous with in the US too, ever since 1968 when it was adopted by the MPAA, which borrowed it from the UK's British Board of Film Censors, which adopted it in 1951.

The story about Musk's adoption of "X" for company names comes from a former PayPal executive who has claimed that the name "X.com" for Musk's second company was chosen at a bar in Palo Alto in 1999, when the founders of the online financial services platform that later became PayPal were debating between Q, X, or Z as the company name. They asked their waitress for her opinion, she said she liked X.com, and Musk pounded the table and said "That's it then!"

Later explanations for Musk's fondness for "X" include "X the unknown", X as the universal variable in mathematical equations, etc., but it seems likely Musk also likes it due to the titillation factor.

In the early 1960s there was a Roger Corman horror movie called “X: The Man With X-ray Eyes.” In the end the main character, played by Ray Milland, tore out his own eyes. I quit X so that I wouldn’t do the same.
