Iphone did not get a must have new feature and Apple decided to postpone any other hardware announcements to prop up Iphone launch numbers?

Don't over think this... Apple has run out of ideas after the "one hit wonder" iPhone. Admittedly it was a good run. So of course the keynote was "messy, too short and hurried" because standing there with nothing left to talk about (when you so desperately want to have more) is indeed messy and uncomfortable.

As CEO, Timmy the Crook's main job is to 'sell' Apple. It was just another uncomfortable sales pitch that fell short.

Prediction: Timmy will "throw in the towel" soon if Apple continues to give him "not much" more to say.
I guess you missed the watch and how big of a success that has been?

Remember, if something is free, its not the product. You are.

Agree that non-free products created by companies with vast revenue generated by "free stuff" always suck.

But the "head cam" concept crosses a social line that people will not accept. Of course the "Big Tech overlords" are working hard to brainwash the masses in its eventual acceptance. So who knows, maybe Apple can get the brain washing correct. But their marketing department is starting to run on fumes..
Your takes are SCALDING hot tonight.

Daydream was just basically devices for turning your phone into a VR screen. In 2019 I'm sure Apple is further down the road than Google's 2016 tech, but if it's anything like "place your phone in this fancy headband", uh nope.

Oh dear God no, I hope Apple doesn't release anything like that. I've had a handful of these awful devices, and while there were a few instances where it was cool to use them (think Google Earth, viewing movies on a plane, etc), for the most part they were just cumbersome and the fact you had to finagle your phone into them each time you wanted to use it made for a cumbersome use experience.

This should have never made it into the GM. More evidence of software development incompetence at Apple.

A framework does NOT need to be included in a GM software release for a press event announcing hardware that will ship later (even if the hardware was announced).

Boy, someone is very pleasant today. Did you have a rough day? Do you want a cookie?

Yeah yeah, we all heard it before; Apple is doomed and Tim sucks. Hey, good news though, there is no need for you to be unhappy. There are other phone makers out there that would love to have you as their costumer, and other internet forums too while you are at it. :D:rolleyes:

That being said, even if the AR glasses (or Apple Tags) were not quite ready, I'm sure the general public would have been very forgiving and would have relished the chance to at least see a prototype in action. All they would have had to say, regarding it's release date, would be that 'it'll be ready when it's ready'.

Maybe the darn thing kept crashing and they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen if they had revealed it today.
If we just could be sure they can finish the product :) But after AirPower failure I think it’s best to not show and promise something crashing and not finished yet.

Apple Tags were so heavily rumored like the ready product... and this code and screenshots show there’s one more thing in the active if not the final stage of development...

I hope we’ll see both one day.

Funny to say while everyone else is "feeling bad" for poor Timmy who had not "one more thing" to say.

Poor Timmy.

Maybe Timmy should focus more on the quality of software Apple produces. Forget about leaked Frameworks for a moment and answer this question: How may bug reports have YOU filed with Apple to fix their SDK, tools, etc...?

P.S. I'm a bit full from eating Apple's "dog food" over the last 15 years. No room for a cookie. Besides, I've been focusing on "something different". See avatar.

If they do this right, it will be a huge game changer. Imagine education and entertainment with AR.

I was definitely on the side of excitement for Google Glass and was super disappointed when that flopped for the average consumer.

I really think Apple could be the company to pull off AR glasses. They really delivered on the smart watch and I expect no less here if they release.

My dream would be an announcement this year and a release alongside the 2020 iPhone.

The NY Times sent me a Google Cardboard to look at their app. It was fun for about 5 minutes but it had potential. There are a couple of AR apps in the Store.

I have a strong feeling something was cancelled the very last minute. When Tim was talking in the end it looked like he was unsure if to end the keynote or not. I’m sure it was about Apple Tag, but it looks there’re more.

It’s good to have new products but it just shows incompetence: cancelled products, messy keynotes. It was too short and hurried up as if they wanted to talk about something else. If it wasn’t true then they could talk more about new iPhone features. They didn’t mention audio zoom for example, which is a major feature.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed that. It was awkward. It looked like he was going to do a “one more thing”, but then ended it.

I've no interest in the Apple watch... never have, probably never will, but man if Apple can nail these AR glasses, I'll be hoppin' on board the train provided they don't absolutely suck. I'm not a first adopter either, so I'll definitely wait a few months to a year and let others beta test these. They can have all the first adopter thrill. :D

Just because Timmy the Crook tells you something is a success, doesn't make it a success:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/524830/global-smartwatch-vendors-market-share/

Keep in mind it's a market share graph that shows Apple's market share decreased. Smartwatch unit sales are indeed growing fast, but it's still early to make broad claims.
I use the vision test. I walk around and see what others are using. The amount of Apple Watches in the wild is kind of crazy and it's only going to sell better now that they are offering a $199 option. Look at whatever made up statistic you want, the real world tells a different story.

This is a massive leak that keeps getting worse. And it's pretty mature.

Very surprising that Apple didn't announce it today, it really seemed like they intended to.

Great comment and I wholeheartedly agree. This shiz was meant to get out today and something stopped it in its tracks. Firmly believe something upended it at the last minute. I would bet good money that a select few lucky Apple emps are walking around Apple HQ testing these suckers out at this very moment (or at least during waking hours).

Why we never got to see these today may forever be lost to time, but one thing is sure - it would have made this keynote a heck of a lot more interesting and memorable.

Well, that would explain the lacklustre presentation. Ironic that the most interesting thing to come out of today was found outside of the show

Dude - Tim Cook just got $100 Million in stock - that was his Performance Bonus.

This is almost certainly the personal computing device Apple is investing into next, now that iPhone has plateaued as a platform and its future potential limited.

It is a common sentiment I hear on these boards, but I disagree that smartphones innovation has “plateaued”.

I think Apple has just gotten too fat and comfortable at the top. Other companies are scrambling to come up with something fresh, but without new Apple features to copy, most are lost.

I think there is plenty of space left to innovate in smartphones, but I also recognize that’s a minority opinion on these boards.
