I am surprised that devs are installing updates on day one. they should know better given apple's recent history..

Unfortunately this version fixes critical issues (and performance problems) that were introduced in other versions and is needed to build to the most recent release. It is funny because there is a major SPM fix that I need to release on Mac included in this GM... and apparently SPM is what is broken here? Thankfully I use dev site or I wouldn't of been a happy camper.

And just FYI: whether an Xcode version is jacked in some way or not, it is what we are stuck with. Apple stepping up to admit there's a problem and their public "we're aware and are fixing it" is literally exceptional and only because it is 100% broken... anything less and you're SOL regardless of downloading the day of or a week later.

Let it be a slow burn along the way rather than a sudden ststorm when you've put it off, I say.

I have never installed the App Store version of Xcode but have always used the tip instead - it makes it easier to copy to all my machines to install rather than downloading a bunch of times.

I downloaded from developer site as normal developer would do. There was initial hang on SPM dependencies but all good on second launch.

Installing xcode from the App Store has been a task that requires an unknown amount of time. Despite trying numerous times I’ve never managed to get it to complete. Even if left for hours and hours. This has been the case for years now.

I do not know why apple don’t test this because if they did, they would surely remove it from the MAS and allow devs to download direct instead. Like we all end up doing.

Worst part is Apple was aware of it when releasing this version.
I saw it this morning when reading Xcode 13.2's releases notes. It was the first issue mentioned, and right off the bat I knew this was not for me and it would make the news.

Anybody who accepted this at Apple deserves to be fired IMO.

is it just me, or does this contradict? "and there appears to be no fix at this time." and "Apple says that it is investigating the issue, and that in the meantime, Xcode 13.2 should be downloaded directly from the Releases section of the Apple Developer website" so, umm fix it by downloading from developer web site?

No contradiction, the issue is with the MAS version. So the proposal is a workaround.

But if you download it from developer site it fixes it? I’m pretty sure that is right. So fix it by downloading. No fix means it is broken and can’t be fixed. A workaround can be a fix , yah? Thank you and case closed

The amazing thing is how long it takes to install Xcode upgrades even on an M1 Max. What on Earth is it doing??
Maybe apple is planing to slowly make Xcode more and more annoying to use, and replace Xcode with swift playground with less features?

Either that or they packaged the bundle for security reasons requiring a large download?

I lucked out. I downloaded it from the Developer's website.
I saw the headline and wondered why it wasn't affecting me. But I generally download from Apple's Developer website because the version from the App Store takes forever to install. So not really luck, just efficiency.

Hey guys, what exactly is broken with Xcode? I updated through the MAS, and it opened, ran, and installed it's components on launch without issues. Just trying to find out if I still need to get a fresh copy from the Developer site, which I was planning on doing unless I'm ok since everything installed and ran.

The amazing thing is how long Apple hasn't been able to fix Xcode and all its problems after many years. From random 100% CPU usage (com.apple.dt.SKAgent I'm looking at you) to indexing problems (I still have to remove the Derived Data cache folder every week or it will just go boiling mode, and suggestions haven't ever worked).

No if you download from the developer site you get a different app.

The build hosted on the App Store has the issue that is why there is no contradiction.

Because we have a lot of choice?

It's better to know. It's not like we (well, most of us) have only one system.

Also, a lot of us have memories and recall Apple's past history.

I don't think I've ever successfully downloaded Xcode from the MAS. It always fails or gets stuck downloading forever somehow. Downloading the XIP is the only way. (and maybe #yolo skipping the XIP verification)

I gave HomeBrew a fair chance, but it kept giving me grief. Returned to using MacPorts for everything and life is happy.
Yeah, I can't deal with Homebrew's weird opposition to using root permissions to install stuff. There's always something for which user perms don't work. I used to even hack its scripts to let me `sudo brew install`, but they prevent that now. MacPorts just works™.

Except what just works™ even more is Ubuntu with apt-get.

I've been told that Apple doesn't use Xcode, which would explain a lot.
