Do Missions in XCOM 2 have random names or are they randomly generated? I only ask, as on 3 occasions, when doing a tough mission, I have searched for the mission name in Google etc., and have come up with similar names, but not the same. Current example being 'Operation Star Chalice'. Can't see anything about it!

I believe XCOM generates operation names by combining randomly chosen words from two lists. So, yeah, searching by operation name won't help. Most missions are also procedurally generated, so no two are exactly the same. Key story missions are the only exception. If you're searching for help, you'll need to look up the specific obstacle you're struggling with. Such as by enemy type, mission type, and so on.

Hey, i went through first xcom on my macbook air 11 with intel hd6000, will Xcom 2 run on it as well? thx

I have found that X-Com 2 is disabling SLI. If you're like me and have a PC that is capable of SLI and without it your frame rate suffers I have done some testing and found that force alternative frame rendering 2 will get the frame rate to double. I went from 30 FPS to 60 FPS (I have not turned VSync off to see how much over 60 two cards is going) at max settings with VSync enabled at 1080P.

Do not use force alternative frame rendering 1. I found that on my system I was getting less then half the FPS of no SLI. Make sure to use force alternative frame rendering 2.

Attached is a screenshot of the game. For whatever reason the shadow play frame rate is listing as 0 and the steam FPS isn't showing up at all but that was 60FPS VSync with nearly max SLI usage. It's a huge improvement.

I played it on my Core M3 SP4. With everything set to low, 1280x800, I was pushing maybe around ~15 FPS in missions.

So yeah, it'll probably run, but I don't know how playable it'd be.
What graphics chip was that machine running?

I tried it in my Early 2015 13" rMBP 2.7GHz i5 with the Iris 6100 and the game gives a unsupported message and crashes just past the legal screen.

It's a Skylake based Intel HD 515.

Though since I only know a scant bit about Intel iGPUs, I can't tell you exactly why it ran for me and not for you, other than...it's a newer chip.
That makes sense if it is newer then the Iris Pro. Oh well. It does stream over steam and the gaming pc/workstation and play nicely on the MacBook. :D

I think that was the frame rate this Mac Book was getting on X-Com EW so even if it didn't crash the FPS would probably be single digits lol.

An Intel Iris Pro can run both XCOM 1 and XCOM 2 but older Intel chipsets will only support XCOM 1 and even then you'll need at least an HD4000 series for XCOM 1 (EW and EU)

I wonder if the new rMBP will include Iris Pro? If so, I'll be pretty bummed that I just purchased one. I didn't really buy this thing to game with, but it would be nice to run something like XCOM 2 on here occasionally.

The 15" comes with an Iris Pro the 13" only comes with an Intel Iris 6100 which is less powerful and under the min specification for the title.

Two quick questions:

  1. Was there any performance improvement since the first patch?
  2. I'm debating whether to buy the game, but I'm not too optimistic about my current specs: Late 2012 iMac, 3.2 GHz i5, 24GB RAM, and NVIDIA GTX 675MX 1024GB. Would the game be enjoyable on my current specs?

1) Performance has improved since launch.
2) I wouldn't expect to be able to run at native resolution or at graphic settings above Low. Framerate dips below 30 will likely occur during big explosions. It won't be particularly pretty, but it should be playable as a turn based game. On my 2012 rMBP with a GT 650M, I can run it at 1440x900 with Low settings just under 30 fps with some dips when the explosions begin. It works, but it is noticeably rough. If my rMBP was what I primarily played it on, I probably wouldn't like it much. But others are less snobbish.

2. I'd wait till next few DLC's come out to salvage the package tour really. The first DLC was a wtf is this crap release to me. As if I wanted borderlands or fallout looks to my peeps....I'd play them. First dlc was a major let down. It was a frigging disgrace really as modders put out better stuff....for free.

If the next dlc's following on this crap path....steam sale around xmas or beyond would be more advisable. Get the game for 75% more reasonable if this DLC is what we can expect from them. They put our crap work, they get crap pay.

Beyond that....if you have EU/EW, just replay them. Its almost the same thing. XCom2 gives you the insertion under cover mode. However....on most missions to clear times you are rushing in. So its basically pointless since you can't use it to setup a nice trap. Like in 1 (the new 1....not the older series out already)....you pay leap frog and see which on your team trips an enemy spawn.

YOU also re-research all weapons. After the last run of autopsies...team com seemed to throw all the data out. So its do over as not one soul from remembers how to make even a laser gun.

Xcom 2 is out on mac os x appstore. Is there any difference with the other version?

It appears both versions are comparable with the exception of multiplayer. With the Mac App Store version of the game multiplayer is limited to Mac-to-Mac only; whereas, the Steam version provides support for cross-platform play between Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Personally, I have never understood why anyone would ever buy a game on MAS when there is a Steam version.
There is no advantage whatsoever, and a few disadvantages.

I don't know but probably because someone would not like to use steam as another different application / service etc. Stick to appstore for everything. If it had special treatment like for example better performance, it would be encouraging to use appstore only..
