Thanks for this thread. I'm in that transition stage where the kids will be needing phones pretty soon. I was looking at options like PopSIM and stuff like that and was basically thinking of going with adding a line to my AT&T plan (an extra $15/mo to use our 20GB shared data).

This $2.50/mo "deal" is intriguing. As long as my oldest is just using talk/text, I think she can stay under the 100MB threshold. The problem is that she'll want to use iMessage and that might push it into the $12/GB range.

I'll have to mess around to see how much data iMessages would actually use.

Question 1 - When you sign up for the plan, would you select the $12/GB plan?
Question 2 - If you don't exceed the 100MB shared data, then the $12 doesn't show up in the bill? Would you have to do anything special to de-select the $12/GB plan?

As far as phones go, I have an extra iPhone6 (T-mo unlocked) that shows up as being compatible. Which is odd since it doesn't have any CDMA radios. I wonder if Xfinity is just using the LTE from Verizon and not the CDMA stuff (if that's even possible).

They'll ask you which plan you want either via support personnel or Web interface.

You won't get billed 12.00 unless you go over the small amount of data they allow free. In my case, if I use no data, I'm only billed $0.75/month.

I dunno. They can't be restricted to just LTE because I don't use LTE for voice calls on my Xfinity Mobile line. Maybe your market is all LTE.

Maybe. That or your iPhone has the all-bands radio, for whatever reason.

There’s only two options unlimited or pay per use. Remember the pay per use is for all lines if your getting more then one line.

You can have different lines on different plans; "The lines on your account can have different data options. Light data users might be cool paying By the Gig while others need Unlimited." However if you have several lines on by the gig plan those lines will share data.

Did you have to go into an Xfinity store? I’ve tried to add a second line but xfinity online says it can’t add my request with my own device.

Yes, I did. It was pretty painless though. There were no out of pocket expenses, and they provided the nano sim, free of charge.

I was assigned an Xfinity number and was on my way. The only caveat naturally, your phone does need to be unlocked.
[doublepost=1546563132][/doublepost]I too would like to know if Xfinity is using Verizon CDMA.

I shut off LTE for voice as a another poster suggested, I then placed a call with Xfinity and the bars jumped from 2 to 4. I truly believe if and when Verizon tries to get rid of CDMA, they're going to be in trouble. LTE simply doesn't reach as far as CDMA.

I've been unimpressed by my Xfinity line thus far, coverage/signal wise.

I just got back from Xfinity store with a new iPhone 7, but I am still waiting on an activation because I was porting out from Google Voice and they are not the fastest to port. I needed a line for my younger daughter and figured that at $12 a month, or less you cant go wrong with it. She will be locked out from using the phone except basics like phone call, text messaging and facetime, so hopefully 1 GB will be plenty for that purpose when she is on a go.

Porting a Google Voice number to Xfinity took about 4 business days for me. Make sure you unlocked the Google Voice number at https://www.google.com/voice/unlock It will cost $3.00. Also set a voicemail PIN for the Google Voice number. If Xfinity asks for an Google account number, it is the 9 digit phone number and the password will be that voicemail PIN.

I did that all. Wonder if it matters that my GV number was brand new. I created it 5 hours before going to Xfinity store and porting out? Anyway, I checked GV page and the number is unlocked and approved. Google says to contact new carrier if port is not successful in 2-3 business days, so I guess I got some waiting to do. This is fine as I do not need this phone for another 2 months or so, but wanted to jump on a deal before it expiries.

Shouldn't be an issue if it is a new GV number. I successfully ported over one that was also a few hours old.
