Apple will announce it 3 years later and then people will think they invented it!
This product won't really take off as it's not very good, more of a tech demo rushed to market. In a few years when Apple work out how to make the technology into a great product they'll release their version, and suddenly the competition will come out with versions that look and work like Apple's and people will claim "well yeah, that's the obvious way to do it"

Tesla designed something like this back in the old days.

In any case, if people are freaking out about 5G they're going to freak out even more about this because "it's like plugging your air into a USB charger." Which makes no sense, but whatever.

If Apple's into recycling names...

AirPower. Apple's first truly-wireless charging hub.

Everything about the name fits.

Could Apple have actually cancelled AirPower for this very purpose? Their patents for this technology are from 2017...

I love this! I fear all of the negative health implications, but still love it. I would love to not have to plug in all of my devices.

Yeah but while your around the house your phone's not going to drain down before you go out.. 5w is plenty for the moment.. No more "oh, I forgot to charge my phone before going out" problem...

Think in terms of power input, efficiency (eco friendly) and power output. If you're around the house even a wireless charging pad is significantly more energy efficient than shotgun blasting the whole room/house. A little more convenient at the expense of significant energy waste.

Maybe for that 5w at distance you need 500w power transmitter. That would be very cost effective charging :)

Can’t wait to see the sticker price on this high tech end table. My prediction is it will be a high end tech trophy for people with disposable income. There’s also the question of buy in from other manufacturers. Is it likely they will license this so Samsung, Apple , etc will work with it? So many unanswered questions about this thing.

The remote charging technology is capable of charging multiple devices within a radius of several meters, with each device able to receive 5W of power.

I assume that means five watts of power delivered to to a phone. Which makes me wonder about how many watts of RF power are being radiated from the charger.

Thinking about the inverse square law.
