Have to say it does look good like 2 beautiful laptops that have specs and great design. Yes they obviously resemble the MB line, in ALL form and fashion aesthetically, but compare differently where it counts, options and available feature sets.
Apple has limited it's own potential growth in this market segment by only offering the variants with the M series processor. Yes, they are staying as light and as small as possible, but to what detriment?
By having a slightly heavier build, this series can ALSO, and "in addition to," the smallest, lightest version with core M processing, offer consumers the choice of a more powerful option with extra usability ports and options, at the expense of more weight as well mind you, for those that wish for these features and accessibility options. This serves both needs of the 2 different market segments.
I think Apple can take away from this, and merge the MBAir line and the MB line and as such offer a 12", 13", and 14" MB version in this lineup with all Retina display. The three laptop sizes can use the same footprint now as the two MBAir models (remove the bezels) and the current MB model (as is), and offer configurations ranging from ultraportable core M processors to possibly quad i7 (dual i7) minimum with 8-16 RAM and variable PCIE SSD options to 1TB as size constraints permit, while ALL using the new MB model design casing and slim chassis and build profile.
The smaller of the two new models (12" new MB model that would replace the current 11" MBAir) would be similar to the current 12" MB model and offer core M chips with adequate RAM (8GB), good storage, and great battery. This replaces the MBAir with a current build of the 12" MB model with upgraded internals, new body design and chassis, and Retina display. The 12" MB (as now designed) gets upgraded internals, full size processor chips (i5 and i7 - in dual and quad variants) in a new 13" form factor by removing/reducing be bezels. The current MB design lends itself to the new 13" and 14" designs. The new 14" model will replace the MBAir 13" as is now with a MB designed chassis, 14" Retina display, quad i5 & i7 CPU architecture, 1TB+ PCIE SSD and RAM options to 16 GB (if size constraints permit).
This would allow the MB design to extend to provide more options and make more feature sets available to those people who need them, while also maintaining a small and lightweight, ultraportable MB model as the lineup does now. This move only HELPS Apple by selling more computers. This merge also allows the low yield 11" MBAir to get a bump to 12" and a Retina display, along with all upgraded internals and a new chassis design. Allows the current 12" MB to get a 13" display along with appropriate upgraded internals in memory, storage, and processor architecture, while keeping the slim and ultraportable form factor of the current MB lineup. And the current 13" MBAir would be upgraded to a 14" MB themed design chassis and structure, with Retina display, dual/quad i5 & i7 processors, 8-16GB RAM, and up to 2TB PCIE SSD storage onboard, while maintaining the ultraportable design of the current MB lineup.
This gets rid of the aging MBAir lineup while NOT just killing it off, provides expansion and upgrade opportunities for improving the current version of the 12" MB beyond a single computer in 1 shape/size in the entire range, and brings a level and feeling of similarity and ease of understanding the lineup back to the laptop line. All laptop models and configuration will also all have super efficient chips and longevity optimization software built in to the hardware to ensure that 10-15 hours of battery (minimum) is achieved across the laptop lineup.
This also opens the door for Apple to upgrade the MBPro lineup as well by introducing new sizes of 14" and 16" in the same size format they are using now in the 13" and 15" models by reducing the bezels. Of course, internals will also be updated and upgraded as well as making changes to the design phase of the build to make chassis changes as needed.
OK - My rant has now Ended!!
THIS is what I would love to see from Apple in the future. I have faith in Apple so I guess we will all see what's what very soon, whether they agree with my vision or their own lol.
Thanks for reading.
