A doppelganger of MacBook Pro eh?
While they lovely mitigate the port situation, being working in designs I'd care so much about their screen's color accuracy rather than those port options.

But alas, that for me. For other people, to each their own.

I find it even more sad than Apple doesn't give us the ports we require even though MacBook Pro cost four times more than this.

To say that this company is blatantly ripping off Apple is ridiculous. This Chinese company has bested Apple by offering their customers an SD card slot and legacy USB 3 ports.

Would I buy it? No, because it runs stupid Windows. But that doesn't make me happy and satisfied with Apple's stupid stripped down MacBook "pro" machines.

Minimalism has gone too far. Apple needs to ditch Jonny Ive.

I'm curious what ports you "require" and why? Some people insist on VGA on their laptops. Some demand SD Card readers. Some want to have nothing but ports so that they can avoid the dock, even though the majority of people would only ever use a fraction of those ports. What's wrong with Apple saying "You know what? Keep it simple and current, and if you insist on using legacy accessories, then get a dock and be done with it." rather than catering to those who are clearly not their core target.

Total crap - who would buy that stuff? If they were in the US they would be sued and shut down.

Chinese company Xiaomi today held an event in Beijing, where it unveiled new products that will rival the MacBook Pro and iPhone X.

First up was the new Mi Notebook Pro, with a fully metal enclosure that looks virtually identical to Apple's latest MacBook Pro in Space Gray.

Mi Notebook Pro is equipped with a 15.6-inch display with narrow bezels, a full-sized backlit keyboard, custom Harman Infinity speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, and seven ports: USB-C, data-only USB-C, dual USB 3.0, full-sized HDMI, a 3-in-1 SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The notebook is equipped with up to Intel's new eighth-generation Core i7 quad-core processor, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card, and 256GB of SSD storage. It will run Windows 10 Home Edition out of the box, with support for Windows Hello fingerprint authentication.

Mi Notebook Pro pricing ranges from about $850 to $1,075 based on current exchange rates, which is under half the price of the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro, but The Verge found it only has a 1080p display.

Next up was the Mi Mix 2 smartphone, which has a nearly edge to edge 5.99-inch display on the front of the device, beyond a small bottom bezel or "chin" that is 12 percent slimmer than the original Mi Mix.

Mi Mix 2 is equipped with a 64-bit Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with four-axis optical image stabilization, and a rear fingerprint scanner. An earpiece speaker is hidden along the top edge, while the front-facing camera is housed in the bottom bezel.

Mi Mix 2 will likely ship with Xiaomi's MIUI operating system, based on Android. Pricing starts at about $500 at current exchange rates.

Like other Xiaomi products, the Mi Notebook Pro and Mi Mix 2 will be available soon in China, followed by other global markets. The devices will likely be available through resellers only in the United States.

Other announcements included a special ceramic edition of the Mi Mix 2 and a new Mi Note 3 phablet with dual cameras.

Xiaomi's event took place just one day before Apple's first-ever event at the brand new Steve Jobs Theater at its new Apple Park headquarters.

The audacity of these people never ceases to amaze.

It'd be a lovely day when Bruce Sewell releases a statement saying that Apple will offer products in the Chinese market as soon as Chinese leadership get serious about patent and copyright infringement. But we all know that won't happen.

This is what I have been talking about with the Chinese changing tech into a cheap commodity. Prices are going to drop hard. The Chinese are making very decent gadgets nowadays that are almost as good but less than half the price of an equivalent Samsung or Apple device. Makes you really think twice by dropping $1000 on a Note 8 or iPhone 8 when you can pocket the 500 bucks.

Except it runs Android. iOS (and MacOS) is why I use Apple.

For now, I remain content with my fully loaded 2015 MacBook Pro — the last good "pro" Apple notebook (except for the stupid antiglare coating that comes off).

Make the MacBook Pro great again!
xiomi try to listen what user request while apple big corp saying you listen to us and follow us..

I think the word "Chinese" in Chinese means "Copy" /s

As a business model, Chinese companies 'borrowing' foreign technology has worked very well. In most instances you cannot sell in China if you don't have either Chinese manufacturing partners or at least business partners who have access to the information design and manufacturing processes. And , at least in the past, China hasn't recognized very many foreign patents.

Why? Do what works and sells. Chinese love the industrial design of Apple but hate the price. Build something's that looks like an Apple, feels like an Apple, but costs half as much and it's gonna sell.

Hell, if I didn't abhor Windows I'd buy one. But alas, I hate, hate, hate, windows.
Wonder who owns this company? Could be Apple :)

So to take a selfie you have to turn the phone upside down. Go home. Xiaomi, you’re drunk.

Worth considering were it not for 3 things: 1. Disappointing display - only 1080p and the obnoxious aspect ratio (16:9 instead of 16:10). 2. No ThunderBolt - at least not stated (USB-C != TB). 3. It's made by a Chinese company - actual quality is uncertain, not to mention trust - can you be sure there is no spyware embedded in silicone in their products?
.
In regards to OS, the phone is a problem (Android), but with the laptop you can always blow away Windows and install Linux (which is really, really good these days).

And I have to wonder how much data gets sent to Xiaomi to be stored in China about you while you use it? While I don't like everything Apple does, I trust them more. I always think of Lenovo and the spyware they were caught red-handed pre-installed into Windows when I see things like this. If I bought one I'd wipe it clean first before using it. Even then, in this era where we know the shenanigans going on in technology and spying I'd still be a bit suspicious.

The phone if considered a "copy", which is impossible given the new iPhone isn't out yet, but even if you do consider it a copy, it's actually a better product design than the "real thing". Xiaomi found a way to go bezel free without having a stupid bump cutting the screen in half as the new iPhone is rumored to have. So, good on them.

The laptop however... well. ;)

If it doesn't run iOS or macOS it is just another windows/android device. Comparing Apple to Pears(Windows).

Wow. Now I f it ran macOS, I'd be telling them "shut up and take my money"...

USB-A port....... its not legacy, its the standard for accessories

What apple is saying is , give us $$$ .

If you do own a new MacBook Pro, you need to carry around a dongle.

Who is the Core? You will find most of the core "pro" users do in fact have an issue with this.

A. It's not bezel-free.
B. The bottom bezel is where they put the front-facing camera.

Damn the ports on this thing, put the MacBook Pro to shame. Its all about making money from accessories. Sad when a copy is more practical and functional.

So you think Jony Ive woke up one day (or Phil Schiller came into his office) and said let’s remove all the ports on the next MBP so we can make more money off of dongles? You don’t have to like that Apple rips the band aid off quickly rather than slowly but this isn’t about dongles. I’m sure Ive would love it if he never had to design another dongle again.

Can't even blame them for copying Apple. It's a good business strategy. It worked for Samsung and Apple's lawyers weren't even able to do anything about it. Now they just need a massive marketing campaign if they hope to become the solid number 2 or 3 company behind Apple in the US.
