Xiaomi will introduce a new software update at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) that will reportedly improve connectivity between its own devices and Apple products.

Alongside the debut of the Xiaomi 17 series, its HyperOS 3.1 update is said to include a new "iOS Bridge" for smoother connectivity between the two platforms. According to GizChina, the features tipped include the following:
  • iPhone call alerts: Incoming calls on an iPhone that appear on connected Xiaomi tablets and PCs, allowing users to answer or manage calls without having the iPhone in their hand.
  • Enhanced AirPods integration: AirPods to integrate better with Xiaomi devices, showing battery levels and offering enhanced controls, similar to how they work with Apple devices.
  • Direct file sharing between iPhone and Xiaomi: A fast, wireless transfer feature enabling file sharing between iPhones and Xiaomi devices without relying on third-party apps.
If the features do drop in Barcelona during MWC, which runs from March 2 to March 5, it'll be another notable win for people who own an iPhone and AirPods as well as a Xiaomi phone, laptop or tablet. In 2025, Xiaomi held a 16% share of the European smartphone market, according to Omdia.

I'd be very happy to have better interoperability of all things - Apple, Xiaomi and everyone else.

It should be seen as a positive attribute that devices work with lots of other things. And failure to support interoperation should be highlighted everywhere and treated as the negative it is.

Probably won’t last long
They have not broken the AirDrop interoperability with the Google Pixel up to now and there's no reason to. Xiaomi can just do what Google did. It could be a feature rolled into Android as a whole.

AirPods: Apple will be happy to sell more of them.

The call alerts is already a thing on Windows and has been for a long time.

This is good. If they continue to move towards interoperability, then I see no reason to have an Iphone. My main issue with Android is RCS and Imessage not being at the same level.

Apple devices are ALREADY interoperable.

They connect to industry standard cellular networks, WiFi, BlueTooth or USB devices.

What Apple does is add EXTRA features on top of these standards within their own products. AirPods having extra features doesn’t break BlueTooth and make it difficult/impossible to use regular BlueTooth headphones with your iPhone. It just means you’re limited to the features available in the standard.

People suggesting interoperability are basically saying no company has a right to make their own products work better together.

Call it what you want, but proprietary=crap. Simple

I would put each and every one of the AI companies on that list, and their probably out-pacing China as a whole, individually.
Corporate espionage has been around since fire was invented. I think the OP was referring to China being the biggest state sponsored IP theft vulture. No one comes close

It's not "corporate espionage", it's straight-up IP theft from authors, journalists, artists, consumers that post their thoughts and help on the internet, youtube personalities, etc. ...and the not only is the US government supporting it, they are pushing it, and using it on a daily basis.

What an idiotic take. So companies aren’t allowed to add features to their products that differentiate them from others on the market? Everyone has to make the exact same clone so we can all share the same feature-set?

They are allowed to, sure. And in no way did I say anything has to be a clone, that's hasn't happened and wouldn't happen. Android phones are not clones of one another.

No they're not. Phones these days are much more than devices to connect to cellular networks. The market mostly desires a good level of interoperability and Apple are finding out that it's good for business as since the EU has imposed some standards their sales have GONE UP.
