Hi to all!

So the XR is now 5 month old; anyone had it that long? any thoughts now that the excitement passed away?

My iP8 is dead (accident) and I´m torn between a new 8 or the XR (also the 8+ can be a possibility but it's too big, I used to have a 7+ and sold it for the size...)

PD_ Can´t stand to OLED because of PWM, so X, XS are excluded

Thanks!

As long as you won’t miss 3D Touch, a XR will be a natural upgrade from a standard iPhone 8.

I’ve only had my XR for a month, it was a no brainer as I swapped a year a old 8 for it and was brand new, it’s a great phone but I prefer the size and weight of the 8 though.

Definitely a good upgrade over the 8 as long as you don’t mind that it’s a heavier and bit bigger.

Has a better screen, improved speakers, larger battery, great camera, faster processor and more ram.

Being the 8 Plus is a possibility according to the OP, I would also add the telephoto lens (Dual Camera) that would be another consideration aside from 3D Touch missing from the XR.

The standard 8, just as the XR, doesn't have a dual camera either.

I switched to the XR from an 8 Plus in the first week of December, so I am using for nearly 3 months now.
I don't regret switching to the XR at all. 3D touch might be the only thing to mention - there were two or three situations where I would have needed it but it was no big deal not having it.
The dual cam, I am not missing at all, sice I barely used it on my 8 Plus.
Overall I love my XR! I love the new gesture based controls, the bigger screen and smaller footprint compared to the 8 Plus!
Since I am VERY sensitive about PWM, the XS/XS Max were never an option for me. Using my colleagues X for just some minutes is making me feel dizzy already  I just can't use PWM-OLED-screens.

The standard 8 doesn't have a dual camera, too.

I’m aware of that, but the comparison with the XR would be the 8+, being the differential that the 8+ offers 3D Touch *and* the dual camera. (The OP also mentioned the 8 Plus was possibility too.)

I went from 8+ to XR and haven’t looked back. XS Max was my first choice, but the OLED doesn’t work for me, and I had to return it.

I love my XR. I don’t have any issues with the size, but, like I said, I came from 8+. I’m sure coming from an 8 will be a bit more of an adjustment, but I’d definitely go to XR over 8+ (and I LOVED my 8+).

I think the display is great, the camera is awesome, I LOVE the battery life, and I have no issues using it with one hand most of the time thanks to my Loopy case.

Have had the XR since launch and haven't missed 3D Touch at all.

The phone itself is a bit of a brick, but all in all I really like it. Have had no issues except for an odd audio issue in Audible when I use it without headphones.

I don't miss 3D touch at all since the only thing I used it for was moving the cursor around when typing and they made this available on the XR through a long press on the space bar.

Lack of 3D touch sucks, even if all you do is use it to toggle night shift. Sitting there holding a button for a long press is such a regression from a quicker, deeper press IMO.

The 8+, at the end of the day, is still a flagship phone, albeit an older one - the Xr, not so much.

This is why I went with the XS. I love 3D touch. It is very satisfying and great functionality if you know how to use it.

I love 3D touch and can't imagine going without it. This functionality is underrated in my opinion but different strokes for different folks. :)

If the comparison is an iPhone 8 vs the XR then I’d go with the XR. If it’s between the 8+ and the XR then I’d go with the 8+ and actually did at my last upgrade. It won for me hands down based on my needs.

The XR however for me is the best new iPhone released last year for what it offers.

I’ve had the XR about 6 weeks now and it’s definitely my favourite iPhone I’ve ever had

I’ve not used the 8, but had the 7 before the XR and from what I gather it’s pretty similar. Definitely a decent phone, but it’s legacy technology. The 8 is pretty old hat at this point, and this will be even more pronounced going forward. So I’d defo pony up the extra £150 for the XR

Too heavy, too fat.

Notch.

It's lighter than the 8+ and the thickness difference is like half a mm, hardly noticeable in everyday use.

and the notch... well that's a matter of personal opinion... I prefer the notch over huge top and bottom bezels.

I have had the XR since launch and love it. I do prefer Touch ID myself but all in all it is an upgrade over the 8 in my humble opinion as I had an 8.

Love it. Got it after 4 years with a 6, which I had after 4 years with a 4s. Stopped taking my iPad out and about. Got used to carrying this big phone in winter clothes, but wonder what summer will be like. The battery life is fantastic. Extremely handy. Never notice the notch. I have a work 8, which feels awkward to use after Face ID.

Not really, the 8 might have an older form factor, it still includes a dual camera with the Plus version and 3D Touch, both of which the XR lacks. But in terms of the 8bcomparing with the XR, they’re actually fairly similar offering comparable features they both share, however what you’re really purchasing with the XR is the new form factor and Face ID. The A11 Bionic in the iPhone 8 is still very much relevant, where the A12 performance is also vastly similar to the A11.

still have the dark spot on my screen .. so good luck with the screen lotto if you get the XR

Screen lotto? Is that maybe a little exaggeration? I haven’t seen much about bad screens in the XR, and by that logic, I could say all screens are perfect, since mine is.
