I actually wish I would have gotten the XR over the Max, and am selling my Max to get one.

I'm going through something similar myself. I have an iphone 8 and I'm moving a parent onto my account and provider are offering XR for free, or $430 for XS. I am a devout 3d touch user and not sure what to do, give 8 to parent and I take the XR, or just give XR to parent and keep the 8.

As much as I love 3d touch, I don't $430 love it but I am very intrigued by the XR @ $0.

Just curious, what are your reasons? Is the dual camera 3D and Touch capability not of interest to you with the Max that the XR doesn’t have?

Major downer with Xr is Intel Modem, so if you're currently on a Qualcomm model, that's a definite downgrade IMO.

XR has better reception and call quality than XS/Max.

How so? We are considering moving back to our old provider and reception & call quality is the only reason for doing so. We have somewhat decided on the XS, but not if the phone doesn't work well

There is a big thread on here about it if you search, i had the XS max and Xr is better, same antennas as the iP8 which is better for rural areas where i live, maybe different where you are. Here you go 170 pages.

170? Dang. I guess I did ask...

Thanks. Good to know beforehand instead of afterwards. I'll give it a whirl

ETA: We live very rural too. Choices are extremely limited here

I live in a rural area also. My daughter’s XS is way more problematic with reception and signal strength than my XR. She’s always frustrated.

We went with two XRs last Thursday. Reception and call quality are fantastic. We couldn’t be happier with the phones so far. Thanks for the help.

A little late to this thread.

Initially, I liked the phones. Then after a while, I couldn't stand the weight and thickness of the phone. It's uncomfortable to hold, coming from an iPhone 6S.

If the XS had dual physical sims, I'd switch to it in a heart beat.

I’ve had the XR since early December. Great phone. Like everything about it but do wish portrait mode was available on everything, not just people, and I was an avid 3D Touch user so miss that too, but otherwise, the XR is really a great phone.
