Are there any iPhone XR-owners thinking about upgrading to a 12 Pro Max?

Any thoughts on how the size of the 12 Pro Max will feel compared to the XR?

When I upgraded from a 6S to the XR, the screen seemed huge at first. But I got used to it very fast. Now it even feels small compared to some Android phones. I tried out the Sony Xperia 1ii for a few days, with its (gorgeous) 6,5 inch screen (even though the aspect ratio is a bit weird). Going back to the XR made the iPhone feel small.

I wonder how the 12 Pro Max will feel. Will it feel very different from the XR? Will it be too big?

Who has thoughts on this?

Me. From 11. But I'm struggling with it... 12 Pro has compact dimensions finally and I will buy bigger phone than 11 Pro Max ? 😟

I made decision to upgrade from XR to 12 Pro Max. I just received the case for the new phone and let me tell you - it is a little bit bigger but definitely not huuuuge as many people will tell you. On the other hand I was looking forward to have a little bit bigger screen and better camera. Pro Max satisfy both of these needs

I just upgraded from my XR to the 12 Pro Max. No regrets I will love the new camera and bigger battery life! It shouldn't feel too much bigger especially without a case. If the XR is comfortable the 12 Pro Max is a few mm wider and taller.

My wife is considering doing that but she was concerned about the larger size in her small hands.

She likes my 12 Pro but really likes the 12 as it's lighter.

She complains that her purse gets heavier and would welcome a light phone...

Me! XR to 12PM. Main reason is all the goodies of the PM and couldn’t stand the new scaling of the 12 Pro.

Same here. From XR to pro max. I already have the case for the pro max and the size is perfect for me. I have missed the plus sized phone ever since moving from 7 plus to the X.

I went from XR to Pro (because both were 6.1"). I find the Pro to be the perfect size. However, the battery of the Pro is considerably worse...I have ordered the Pro Max and will see how "unwieldy" it is.

Oh yah it’s big. But it’s a great phone. It’s big, unwieldy. But for certain people like me it’s worth it.

I am considering it. Have gone for a 12 pro for now but am undecided on it (more about whether it is much different and worth the upgrade as opposed to the size uplift). I do really like the size of the 12 pro v the XR; same screen size but a more comfortable grip, although the screen does seem smaller due to the fact that you get less on the screen than the xr (which baffles me completely given the screen is the same size). I think the poor battery life of the pro may tempt me to try the 12pm as the epic battery life of the XR was one of the best upgrades when I went to it from the 6.

The real frustration is not being able to have them at the same time to compare as there is a 3 week wait on the 12pm. In hindsight I should have just ordered both at the same time in order to compare but at the time I really liked the idea of a slightly smaller device with the same screen real estate, which hasn't actually come to fruition.

I agree with everything here. Only downside to the Pro is the battery, especially coming from a XR.

How much less battery life do you think you get on the pro v the xr?
Well, for example:
I removed the phone from the charger at 95% Tuesday at 11pm
Woke up at 8am Wednesday to 94%
It was around 55% a little after 1pm Wednesday
By 6pm it was at 35%

Very moderate use, no gaming, about 5 hours screentime i think

Crikey, that is bad. When I got my xr it’d be 100% at 6am and down to 5-10% the day after at about 6-7pm. Those were the days!

Definitely!

The Pro battery is good but not great, as someone that was use to the XR battery, it seems bad. Which is unfortunate because I do prefer this form factor compared to the Pro Max. I should be getting the Pro Max in a mail in a few weeks to try out. By all accounts, that battery should blow away the XR.

Thankful for the extended holiday return policy from Apple!

Isn't there a comparison on xr vs 12 pro and I thought the pro had slightly better battery life?

edit:

12 pro beat the xr in the first video, and 12 pro beat the iphone 11 (11 has 1 hr better battery life than the xr).

I think turning off the 5g would do wonders to the 12 pro battery life. I know for my 12 Max, I don't have 5g on my plan (not deployed yet) i'm on LTE but I can easily get 65% with moderate use after 14 hrs.

Extended returns policy - interesting! Are you in the US? From what I can see if an item was received between 11/11 and 25/12 it’s eligible (ordered on 23/10 but received on 13/11) for the extended returns policy here in the UK. If that’s the case, I may well order the pro max as well to compare side by side!

I'm not sure how realistic those types of comparisons are to real life usage. From my experience it seems like the Pro is worse than the XR. From the comments here and on reddit, it seems like a majority of previous XR users are experiencing the same. I will say that I have had the phone for less than a week though. Maybe it'll get better? Idk.

I am working from home now days so it's almost always been connected to WIFI. I also disabled 5G.

Yes, I am in the US and the new policy is phones received between 11/11 and 25/12 are eligible to be returned by 8/1 of next year. The backorder on the Max is quite lengthy though. I ordered it yesterday and it's estimated arrival is 18/12.

Agreed, they’re a total nonsense. This is from the apple website about the 12 pro:

Video playback:
Up to 17 hours

Video playback (streamed):
Up to 11 hours

Audio playback:
Up to 65 hours

Absolute nonsense.

I wouldnt say its total non-sense. There's so many variables when it comes to battery life the measures youtubers give and apple gives gives us some sense of how the battery can perform. Its not wholly accurage but at least it gives us some measure to compare the new model vs the old. What do you want Apple to put on battery life, a big fat question????? mark? That's would be extremely helpful 🤨

The 12 pro battery is not bad at all depending what you are doing. For me, using social media, watching YouTube videos, web browsing, and streaming Spotify, I can definitely get through the day with at least 30% left. However, once I have to use GPS and other intensive apps throughout the day, I definitely will need to give it a quick charge. I did however returned the 12 pro due to light scratch on screen lol and decided to go for pro max. Battery is definitely all-day on this phone and I don’t worry about having to charge it. I still prefer the 12 pro size though. Easier to hold and use but I’m loving the pro max screen.

Of course not, but just giving battery life hours for video and audio playback is a bit useless. It’s a multi purpose device, who is using it for 14 hours straight doing one single thing? They should provide a blended view.

I upgraded and got my Pro Max today. I went to the store first to check it out. After seeing/holding it I knew it was for me. I didn't feel like it was so much bigger that it was unsuable. I have bigger hands too (L/XL glove) so that probably helps. So far I am very happy with it. I like watching shows during lunch break and the bigger screen is going to be killer for that.

I was going to hold off for next years model, but my XR is starting to lag and after seeing my wife's new 12 and the oled screen I was sold. FWIW I got a free line from Tmobile and the XR is being used for that. Traded in an old 8+ we had.
