Just got of the phone with Apple. I purchased a refurb macbook pro on Aug. 1st which should be here by the 10th. I dont qualify for a free copy or any sort of upgrade to iLife '08. They said because its a refurb it will ship with the software that was included when it was originally sold.:(

Does anyone have an idea when the MBP's bundled with iLife 08 will appear at the Apple stores? Along with the software, this'll be a good way to know I'm getting a recently manufactured machine (just in case Apple really is making some screen improvements or increasing QC).

Tried calling both the store and the 800 number and got a big fat "sorry, but no"...
Purchased my Macbook on Aug. 2....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I ordered my MBP 8/5, wont ship until 8/15 earliest. I had 3 different departments at Apple assure me I was getting iLife 08 with it.

Uggg... I just got my new re-ferb 17" in the mail today... doesnt seem to qualify.

since its a refurb it wouldn't count anyways. it'd come with the originally pre-loaded software. my refurb came with iLife 05 even though 06 came out before i bought it.

Hm, I ordered a MacBook Pro in July (18th) but it's still working its way through the delivery process (it's somewhere in mainland Europe right now). Anyone want to have a guess at the odds that I'll get iLife '08 either preinstalled or through this Up To Date program?

Estimated delivery is the 12th so...

Crap! almost a month to deliver? I hope mine does not run that late.

I called yesterday and it just shipped today!

I ordered a MB and received it last week. iLife 08 was announced yesterday so I called and asked for an upgrade. First the guy says no. Then he offered me a free laptop case?!? (not sure how that would cost less than a DVD), then $15 off ilife 08. I showed him the up to date page and he said I wasn't eligible. Kept at it and finally got a supervisor who said he'd make an exception because of my inconvenience. I told my mom (who got her MB 2 weeks ago) what to do and she got a freebie as well. All of her "in between offers" were different than mine, curiously.

I can't believe that having their CSRs tied up for 1/2 for each person is worth the $79 to Apple. I guess the majority of people accept the first "No" and go out and pay retail. I'm not going to call Apple and demand a free copy of 10.5 in October, but 1-2 weeks on the wrong side of an update doesn't seem unreasonable. Just keep it friendly, be polite, and be persistent.

did they ask for a confirmation number or some type proof that you bought it when oyu did

can i just say "i bought it last week can i get my free copy?"

I ordered my MacBook Pro on July 19th and I received it on August 3rd. I called Apple Sales Support last night about whether or not I was eligible for the iLife '08 Up-To-Date program and the person I talked to said that since I was supposed to receive it on August 6-8, that I should be able to get it but she would have to talk to her supervisor. I waited for ~5 minutes on hold and she said that he gave her the go ahead and that I could pay $10 for a retail copy of iLife '08. She added it to my MacBook Pro order and it shipped out today. I should be receiving it either tomorrow or Friday.

I provided my web order number. They knew when I bought and probably more importantly HOW MUCH I SPENT! :)

I called and they at first refused.

Then after requesting to talk to customer relations, which they transfered me, she offered me a coupon for $60 off of $200. Since I planned on getting the apple bt headset, then I accepted. Still it was a pain. Why can't apple just open the policy to 2 weeks before. This is so dumb giving everyone mixed answers.

I guess it really depends on the agent and the supervisor that you talk to. If you don't succeed the first time, you could always just call back later and try another agent/supervisor.

What options did yall use to get to a live person. Whatever I did got me to the wrong person, they transfered me. Lady said the update deal was only good for those purchased after the 6th. So there was nothing she could do. I figured id call back tomorrow.

At first I called sales and the person that answered said that he could not help me with that and gave me the number for Sales Support. I called the number and it is the same number as the 1-800-MY-APPLE, so I went through the different questions until I got to the part of where it says "To Check on Order Status...." and that took me to Sales Support. I cannot remember the exact numbers to get to that point, but it is under Mac and then Order Status.
