So I called Apple. Very helpful guy did some digging. He said I wasn’t the first to report this (obviously). He said that a small variance is not a defect. He said I could compare it with one in the store or just return it. But I doubt another one would be better. It’s very subtle. I turned the brightness a bit higher than I would normally have it. It looks better to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Blueish is not more natural to our eye either, warm is more pleasing to the eye. HOWEVER people who like vibrant screens and the blueish hue makes it pop more with the OLED. The LCDS before the OLED panels have been more warm imo.
We don’t want blueish or yellowish whites, we want white.

Okay guys.. typing on the fly so bear with to the formatting.. the pro max gold I got today has nearly milky whites ( TT off night shift off ) Serial number F2LDxxxxx ( Foxconn, week 43 prod ) and is brighter and sharper than my silver pro

pics later

My 12 Pro Max definitely has a more yellow tint than my 11 Pro Max. I’m keeping it though. I feel Apple has been going more towards the yellowish tint with every year as it is supposedly more natural looking & easier on the eyes.
I understand warmer tones can be more pleasing, but the tint messes everything up when I want to edit photos on the go or view them :( Wish it were more of an option rather than a permanent addition to the screen.

Also, the yellow tint leans a tad bit towards green on mine, ever so slightly that it’s more like piss rather than a warm sunny day yellow. In Korea, people are calling the issue 오줌액정 (piss screen).

Anyone having off axis blue shift with their 12 pro max? Or a degradation in viewing angle/dimness at 35-45 degrees with a blue shift with half the screen?

Compared to my 11 pro max, screen degrades on viewing angle fast. Same compared to sister’s iPhone 12.

When looked straight on, display is fine.

The tint here is noticeable as well but only when compared to the 11. Obviously with True Tone turned off. It’s not noticeable after using the iPhone for a while but... if isn’t ideal.

Mine has this.

I compared it to my X and it had none of those problems.

I had iPhones since the 6 and this screen is the worst by a large margin.

I’m heading into an Apple Store later today to pick up another unit to see if it has the same issue as I believe this shouldn’t be occurring.

The 12 pro max I just got has a very nice screen that’s not too warm that looks just like my 11 pro max and it has very uniform greys. The one my wife has got looks great so far by looking at the setup screen. It took me 2 swaps to get a good screen on my 11 pro max.

iPhone 12 Pro Max on left; iPhone 11 Pro Max on right. Taken with iPad Pro (2018). Will probably go to Apple to exchange device for properly calibrated display next week.

Here's a comparison photo I took, max brightness, true tone/automatic off.

Left is my old 6 Plus I just moved up from, middle is a 12 Pro Max and right is an iPad Pro 10.5"

I really didn't notice it until I had the ipad and phone side by side. The picture also makes it hard to tell but the 12 is a bit dimmer as well.
JFC! Its a tint buffet with these three!

I ordered the 12 Pro Max. This phone is warmer, but I think its not to the point of being annoying. This is compared to a XS MAX (On right). Brightness is better on 12 pro max, but camera can’t capture that (mini 5 camera).

Also, there is definitely a software glitch (I had to disable auto-brightness on/off a few times to get the 12 Pro Max to be brighter).

Finally, true tone is way too yellow on the 12 pro max. I hope they tone it down a bit with a software update.

I will use for a week and If I cannot get used to the warmer tone, then I’ll return.
Let me know your thoughts.

***edit: it’s quickly becoming annoying when switching from iPad mini or Pro to 12 Pro Max

Unfortunately, my Mini seems to have the yellow tint issue. The white point between my devices (iPad, iPhone XR, Macbook Pro) aren't the same, but they're all within the same ballpark. The Mini screen is in the next town over...

Happy to report my DNP express replacement through AppleCare is indeed 3rd times the charm. The panel exhibits no yellow tint, is much brighter than the the previous two units, and color profile is vibrant. No need to use a color filter this go around. Also it is not exhibiting any of the raised black or flickering issues that the F17 serial had. So far I am satisfied however I have not been able to fully test out the earpiece/speaker.

It sucks there’s a lotto on earpiece too imo

fortunately mine is crisp and rattle free

seems to be a bit of one w the cell radios too. I see lots of no service issues but mine has not had that at all. Signal is responsive

All these people saying they have great screens should put up pics. Otherwise, it is anecdotal evidence...ie. Not true. Anecdotal evidence is garbagio.

I do agree, I am comparing 12 pro max to other Apple screens (macbooks, iPad Pro, mini, 8, XR, SE2, etc) {we are an Apple Family) and it’s subpar. Even to a 2 year old XS Max that’s had a lot of use. $1300 USD better have the best and so far I’m not impressed and I’m slowly becoming unhappy with the screen so far.

come on Apple. Don’t buy ***** screens in bulk. Do you expect those upgrading to not notice the difference?
