My 12 Pro Max just arrived, I think i received the perfect screen. Here are my observations:

1. Without True Tone on, it has perfect white point
2. With True Tone on, comparing to XR is much warmer, but I actually like it. Its much easier for eyes in my opinion

I currently have the iPhone 12 Pro (F17 serial number) and the screen is perfect. Sadly I only have my crappy laptop webcam but attached is a photo showing true tone ON and OFF. My 12 Pro Max arrives today and if the screen is on par with my 12 Pro (no yellow tint) I will return the 12 Pro and keep the 12 Pro Max. If not I will keep the 12 Pro and just call it a day.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the phone has a Belkin Ultraglass screen protector on.

Received my 12 Mini today. Screen looks the same to me as on the 12 Pro that I had previously returned. C7CDK.... serial number for those that study such things.

With True Tone switched on, the XS is definitely 'nicer' with whites in that it still appears more white, the Mini is however definitely easier on the eyes even if it initially seems too warm.

With True Tone, Auto-brightness etc. switched off, the XS does seem a little brighter but seems too 'blue', I prefer the Mini there.

True Tone off on Mini, turned on on the XS, probably prefer the Mini as the XS then looks too warm.

General use without staring at a pure white screen, the Mini is probably a little nicer though to be honest they are quite similar.

Not sure which is 'better' or preferable yet but definitely heading towards the conclusion that they are simply calibrated differently and that this is the norm now. Each is better in certain scenarios and that once they aren't sat next to each other the new screen is probably ok with True Tone turned off.

The Mini is a nice little phone however....

So I've not had any luck with the screen lottery 😫

First iPhone 12 Pro (G6TDGAPK0D8X) ordered online on launch day is noticeably yellower than my iPhone X, and the replacement which I got today (G6TDN0KB0D92, having bought it from the online store) is actually slightly more yellow! 😳

I tried to take a photo but it doesn't really do the colour difference justice ... attached anyway for reference (iPhone X on the left, 2nd replacement in the middle, 1st one on the right). Taken on an iPad Pro. True Tone off, Auto-Brightness off, Night Shift off, Colour Filters off.

When displaying a colour checker grid, the X is imperceptible from my calibrated BenQ photo editing monitor, whereas the two iPhone 12s are both warmer ...

So the 1st one will be going back and I'll order another one from the online Apple store and hope it's 3rd time lucky 😞

what! Is that two different iPhone 12 pros on the right ?

My 12 Pro Max does look a bit yellow next to my 11 Pro Max. Does this look defective? Or is it just a warmer display overall? Both phones are on max brightness

I need to stop watching this thread bc all these phones look yellow to me lol.

@FooArk the phone on the right looks better but its not that big of a difference. See if you can live with it before joining the lottery

Last night I picked up a 12 Pro and thought it was unbearably yellow, but today it looks better. I will give it time with my 12 Pro Max to see how the display changes.

I have time and I have no issues playing the lottery, but I dont want to go OCD about it.

A warmer display is better for your eyes anyway, right?

I’m going to play the lottery and exchange my 12 pro.

I can get it to look ok with True Tone off, but man some of the colors are still off.

Especially blues, check weather app in sunny areas - huge difference in the how blues are rendered.

contrast In night mode on the greys of the keyboard are also not good.

hope, I do ok...going to wait till next week to try.

ugh this is impossible to take a picture of. i took one with my pixel 2 and that shows no difference, then i took another one with the iPad that SOMEWHAT shows it but trust me it looks a LOT worse in real life. iphone x on the left, iphone 12 mini on the right.
i'm convinced that this is just the 2020 iphone screen default. minis, max's, pro's and regulars all have this

I got my Mini about 2 hours ago. Coming from an XS.

There is a SLIGHT variation on the tone/color of the screens. BUT, it's a GOOD THING.

The Mini seems to make wallpapers, colors, etc more natural to how they are supposed to look. More realistic. The blacks/grays are better, hard to describe.

Ugh, that looks like my returned 12. Dull and drab yellow tint. The 11 Pro looks brilliant next to it.

Maybe I should just wear yellow tinted glasses and I won't care as much.

I am just going to save myself some anxiety and not compare the two phone to be honest. The colors on my new 12 pro max don't look terrible and I don't really mind the softer tones anyways as it is easier on the eyes especially at night browsing things.

If you have a correctly calibrated display, and then turn on night shift, it still looks better than one of these yellow displays. Colors are still clear, brightness excellent, and contrast outstanding. So I would say that even if a person prefers a warmer display, they should shoot for a good display and then adjust to desired warmth, vs having a perma film under the glass.

Received my 12 Pro yesterday and tbh I’m pretty disappointed with the screen. Not only is it ‘warmer’ than my 11’s (and X’s) screen, it also looks way more dim and less vibrant. TT/NS off, maximum brightness. And fun fact: it shows less content?

May return it and give it another shot.
Power off then back on. This should fix it.

I don't use auto brightness because I'm one of the users who suffer from PWM and have to "triple click" the side button to activate reduced white point (I've worked with the Accessibility Engineers at Apple who advised to to do this).

Received my 12 Pro Max today, looks like a keeper. Nearly identical to my 12 Pro. My 12 Pro Max serial starts with F2, for what it's worth. Photo taken with my iPad Pro. No pink hue in real life, best photo I could get.

Don’t be convinced. I have a regular 12 and it’s screen is cool, vibrant and no color shifting. I’ve compared mine to other 12’s and they showed the same dull-ish, yellow/green hue, at every angle, that my 11Pro had.
My launch 12 screen is darn near perfect.

12 mini at att store in warmer and noticeable less bright at 100 percent auto off

the 12 pro panel was pretty good too for the comparison I think mine was only a hair brighter next to it

My Pro Max just arrived and comparing it to my iPhone 12 Pro the screen looks about the same if not slightly better. I will take some photos shortly. I wish I had a second device so I could take an image of both screens. I guess taking a picture on a pure white screen would be the best way to show the screen.

I just received my 12 Pro Max and the screen is perfect IMO. No yellow hue. I will attach two images taken from the 12 Pro showing the screen with True Tone ON and OFF.

So great that we are seeing more good screens. Good screens for thanksgiving for all!

And these are three photos showing True Tone on and off on my iPhone 12 Pro. Now I found my 12 Pro display to be warmer than my iPhone X display, which I only can notice when they are side by side. Without a direct comparison, the screen feels the same as whites still look white with no yellow tint, but when on a similar page, I notice a slight difference. With my 12 Pro Max, the white is the same as my iPhone X, which is perfect. I will be keeping the Max and selling the 12 Pro next week.
