While this would be fun, I don't think the surviving members are likely to give up their grudge over suing apple over their name. (Now there really WOULD
be confusion where there was none before--- Apple iPod (c) Apple Computer........ while Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (c) Apple Music scrolls on the screen. Hmm. Lawyers are going to have a party sorting it out. Expect delays, people.

(And do you think if Apple scrolls lyrics like they say they might, it will tell
us what the devil the hidden lyrics are in I am the Walrus????????)

Seems "somebody" just paid 4 Billion dollars for digital delivery of The Beatles catalog.;)
That would be Hands' buyout of EMI, woudn't it? That's due to go through tomorrow for £2.4 billion ($5 billion, give or take a billion)

Explanation...

EMI, with its attractive catalog of current artists (Coldplay, Gorillaz, Norah Jones, Keith Urban, Yellowcard) and classic rockers (the Beatles, Queen, the Rolling Stones) had a deal to be acquired by Terra Firma, a European private equity firm led by founder and CEO Guy Hands.

Then Warner Music Group appeared to be coming to EMI's rescue. The European Commission had qualms about mergers between major labels, namely Sony+BMG, but Warner was willing to sell some assets to get the Commission's favor.

Now Warner has backed out, leaving the way clear for the Terra Firma takeover. Their modus operandi is to make strategic changes in a company, so who knows where this will lead, and whether it has a positive or negative effect on Apple Inc.'s possible plans for a Beatles deal.

The "Digital Beatles/Beatles iPod" topic was brought up again at this weekend's "Fest for Beatles Fans" in Chicago. Martin Lewis, one of the ultimate Beatles insiders, claimed that the music would be available within weeks and that the iPod was definitely in the works...just passing on what I heard. Also, next year will be the 40th anniversary of Yellow Submarine which could lead to some sort of tie-in.

Sounds like a lotta bullplop to me! Who would want a yellow iPod anyway?!?! Yellow is like the worst color choice for a product period, I don't see it selling well just because it's preloaded with the Beatles catalog. Nice thought but i doubt it actually coming to fruition.
It might be good for kids. Kids love yellow. But it'd have to be waterproof. After all, it's a submarine.

that would be awesome I wouldn't care if it looked like crap I would buy it.
I VERY HIGHLY doubt if there is a Beatles edition ipod coming out that it will have the entire Beatles catalog preloaded on it. that would jack the price up SO MUCH. As great as it sounds they'll probably just include a ticket to get like 50 dollars off or something of the sort, didn't they do that with the U2 ipod??

My girlfriend got the U2-pod and it ended up only coming with a 50 dollar coupon off the 150 dollar U2 collection, so expect this when you hear "pre-loaded" iPod.

Anyone else notice that two of the "featured" music items on itunes store
right now are John Lennon catalog and a live Paul McCartney thing?

I sense that we're closing in on a iBeatles moment soon.

The September press event will probably give us
ipods (maybe a Beatles one???), with osx and flash the
way it looks. I wonder if they will announce a Leopard date then
(they'd have to don't you think?). I'm thinkin somewhere around Sept 18.

I could only hope for something like that, considering I lost my iPod a couple months ago. Actually, I think it was stolen. But if they came out with a Beatle's iPod I would have to buy it.

If it's yellow, a nano, and in the shape of a submarine, I'll buy it on the spot.

If it's yellow and it's November, anyone in the Catskills will crave it. Every November, when we haven't seen the sun for about three weeks, I visit that PC Colorware site and daydream about getting one of my old ibooks and an old 40Gb iPod painted yellow to bring sunshine back to my life. The winter toys of my dreams!

It would be so cool if they came out with a Beatle's edition iPod. I'd have to buy it to replace my boyfriend's old 3rd Gen one.

mmm, hours of primal screaming. oh wait, that was me while listening to her 70's stuff. hehe

Just looked into the thread. I don't know why people think it'd be yellow. Yellow Submarine artwork has all kinds of big, bright colors. The movie/album already had its big comeback about 5 years ago, odd if they promoted that again.

I like the white album idea much better. Its 40th is also next year and it's a far more important part of their career. The original album jacket didn't have anything printed on the front beyond whiteness and a number. "The Beatles" wasn't printed, but embossed so it bumped out. It'd be a pain for ipod factories to be retrofitted for embossing a white case front, so maybe a grey "The Beatles" like you see on its cover these days.

I think it's laughable that this even is in discussion.

Haha, go merlin mann. That guy's awesome.

People would take the Yoko Ono iPod back to the Apple Store and complain that something was wrong with the headphones but the Genius would only sigh and shake his head and say, "No, that's simply the way she sounds."
How would we know if it was a real Yoko Ono song or somebody had faked it by squeezing a cat?

Hmmm... Now that I think of it, I guess we wouldn't care which case it was!
