Really... Yelp! One of the worst companies ever. Most of the reviews are BS anyway. Useless App for the Apple watch.

Yelp is an obvious app for the watch-- glad they got on top of it quickly!

Yeah, I think it'll be a boon for the likes of Yelps and Foursquares. Really the watch is much better suited for location based notifications on the go because your average person isn't looking at his or her phone constantly enough to notice when something interesting pops up. How often do you see an alert on your lock screen and you think, "Well that would have been interesting had I seen it half an hour ago."

That's where location based apps always fail me. I never look at them when they have something to tell me. I rarely ever remember to check in on FourSquare or any other service. I know a lot of people live and die that way, but not everyone is like that. I really don't care if I rack up points / check-ins / whatevers. I never want my phone to invade how I live my life. I want to consult my phone to make better decisions.

With a watch, I'd be able to have it both ways. I'm still not planning on getting one in the first release, but I find this aspect of a watch to be very interesting.

I don't know anything about trip advisor but I do know that no yelp doesn't do that.

YES, Yelp does in fact demand payment to remove negative reviews. I am a small business owner and was a victim of their extortion scheme. Yelp of course claims the payment is for "advertising" on their own web site...to the tune of $350 to $1,000 PER MONTH.

I am a small business owner and it happened to me. When I refused to pay for their ridiculous ad package they filtered out five positive reviews the same day that had been unfiltered for a year previously.

Too bad Apple made this mistake. I'll never touch the device now.

Still don't see the point. My phone is in my and has a much larger screen and is much more powerful. Why would I use the watch?

The watch won't do half the things your phone will do, but it will do a few things far better and that might be enough for a lot of people to want one. I don't know about you, but I find excessive notifications on my phone to be annoying. I don't live by my smartphone. I use it when I need something and don't want to pull it out of my pocket constantly because some alert came through. It's just too invasive for my tastes.

On the other hand, it wouldn't bother me one bit if my watch flashed messages to me. I'm used to looking at that all the time and it'd be something that I could peer at without significantly diverting my attention away from something else.

I find this potential to be interesting because I'm one of those people who could live without my smartphone because it still doesn't relieve of me of needing a laptop and yet it still doesn't melt into my daily activities.

It could very well be that a watch wouldn't either, but I'm at least intrigued by the potential.

What mistake did Apple make?

Places Around Watch App will also be released soon

With the Places Around :apple: Watch App users can discover Restaurants, ATMs, Meal Takeaway and more on their watch. Users can tap on a pre-defined category or just speak to the watch to find what they need eg Pizza, Japanese Restaurants etc. The watch app provides open hours, contact details and the apple maps app can be used to find directions.

The App will be released on the 24th! :)

To me personally, a better idea would be for a yelp glances watch view to just GPS where you are to quickly check in, and that's it, no more.

I don't think encouraging browsing yelp on the watch is a good idea. The whole point of the watch is to use your phone less, and to another point, use technology less. Too many apps are baiscally allowing the watch to do everything, which I don't think is the point.

But hey, maybe that near-full yelp experience on the watch is amazing to the next person commenting.

Can't check in from the Watch

I thought it would be nice to check in to places on Yelp using my Apple Watch, but it turns out it doesn't have a check-in function. All you can do is look up restaurants.

Foursquare doesn't do check-ins with their Watch app, either.

I guess the whole check-in thing is passé now.

Foursquare hasn't been doing checking-in even in their regular app for some time now (spinning out that part of it into Swarm).
