Yosemite looks terrible!

Never seen flickerings of any kind in OS X Yosemite since DP4 or something. I did always notice the lag when clicking any perfpane and wait nearly a full second before it would load. This used to be instantly on OS X Mavericks and before. I experienced a similar lag in OS X Lion though. Since I installed the OS X Yosemite v10.10.3 beta (couldn't resist because of Photos) prefpanes load instantly again.

I own a 2013 iMac equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M (4GB of memory) so maybe it depends on the drivers.

Anyway, I'm noticing a trend where the (Mac) OS X featuring the first revision of a new Aqua interface always suffers from a more noticeable lag in certain areas. This tends to be fixed in the successor or subsequent updates.

Let's hope for the best for 10.11 whatever name they wanna call it... Then again my MBP will be too old for Apple to update its graphics driver... :(
 
I really wanted to upgrade to OS X, but can't make the move when I see all the problems posted. What happened to "it just works"? Is OS X trying to make iMacs into iPhones? I'll give it some more time but am holding off on my next iMac retina purchase.

"It Just Works" died with the iOSification of OS X... If you're still capable of running 10.6 on your Mac, that would be the last OS X to hold true to that principle...
 
Does anyone know if Apple is giving people buying a new system a choice between Yosemite and Mavericks. I just checked the GoSquared adoption rate graph and it shows it stagnant from January. I would think that as new units were bought it would be creeping up, but I don't see any signs of it.

Don't count on it... By forcing you to use Yosemite on new systems is about the only way to see the adoption rate go up...

And now, people wonder why (for example) Microsoft designed Office 2016 to be compatible with nothing other than Yosemite.

Incompatibilities such as that, now and in the future, should be no surprise.

Apple chose to set a precedent that invites incompatibility. Enough said.
 
When I got Yosemite I put it on a partition on my backup drive and decided to try and use it for non-critical stuff, like checking the weather and other trivial stuff to see if I'd get used to it.

After months of this, I haven't. I swear to God, every time I use it I end up being put into a bad mood. It's like the OS was designed to deliberately perturb me.

Ever hear of the "WOW!" factor? It's like Yosemite implemented the "WOW, is that stupid!" factor. Glaring white everywhere, just like on iOS 7+, icons that look like a teen drew them, and for the love of God, the annoying translucency.

An operating system that irritates me is a first. I guess Apple really is a trend setter.
 
It would be nice if Apple allowed us to choose between Mavericks and Yosemite UI. they could put a switch in system preferences. I think MS did something like that with Vista so people could have the look of XP or '98 if they wanted.
 
Hate the HOT colors

I don't mind some of the changes I see, but between the super thin ariel fonts and the hyper hot pastel colors it just hurts my eyes looking at it. I haven't updated any of my machines to Yosemite yet but I see there is a way to at least remove some of them. (change out icons). Maybe after I figure that out I'll try it on one of my iMacs.

On my iPhone they're cool and nice to look at, but on larger screens, it's tough indeed.
 
Jonathan Ive doesn't know what he's doing. He really, honestly, has no clue.

For example, on the dock where an active application used to have a white dot it now has a black dot. WIth a dark background or if you move an app showing a mostly dark window under the translucent dock the active marking can't be seen. This is just really, really stupid. It's almost like the opposite of what was there before had be be replaced just to snub the previous designs.

The only reason the Spinning Wheel of Death hasn't been "updated" yet is because Jony Ive is still debating which of these two top choices of his he should pick, to replace the rainbow-colored version:

You must've forgotten how this was a black triangle for 7 years and no one was bothered by it....

More than about the colour or even the shape, most people complain about the visibility of the marker. I'm still on Mavericks, and the Dock indicators are visible no matter what background you're using. The little white or black dots can be hard to notice, depending on the background (wallpaper). Personally, I think these complaints are valid.

I'm still on Mavericks also. I waited more than a year before I upgraded to Mavericks. I've had no issues with it. I have friends who have Yosemite and they say they have no problems, but I am skeptical. It's always better to wait. What reasons do you have for not upgrading?

I had Yosemite on my former MacBook Pro for a couple of days.
First of all, my network and wifi were hardly working.
Secondly, I profoundly hated it's looks and lack of usability.
