Seriously.

iPad 2 has to have
Retina display
Dual core
1gb ram
Double the storage
Gyroscope
Two cameras?

U guys all want that?at what price? Ic no one is willing to pay more

Says who?

I would be gladly willing to pay more. If the next iPad delivers on those, and lets you actually drag and drop files to it/download files to it from the internet, I would be HAPPILY willing to plop down $999.

I would rather get a device such as what is described here...
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1081984/
than I would a low end Macbook Pro or some other laptop.

This is Apple.

That's all you need to know. Apple is not going to literally DEFINE the tablet market, and then just let everyone else capitalize on what they've brought to the public. They are going to REDEFINE the tablet market again, Apple isn't one to just sit back and take a hit in sales--they're going to continue to put stuff out reminds people of their place among today's technology firms--AT THE TOP.

Since you're "that guy"...

1. "all" is redundant

2. "Idocracy" should be "Idiocratic"

3. If you want to keep "Idocracy", remove "reality".

Hilarious. His post was a tad ironic wasn't it?

Yes. Apple will redefine the tablet market again. Oh then next year, they'll do it again. With each generation, they may not include the best possible features, and they certainly will not include ALL of the best possible features. But you can be certain that each year they will release a product that everyone would like to own, and that other companies can't compete with.

Agree.

In almost every, or actually every way the Motorola Xoom as recently shown is higher specced than the current iPad.

Larger Screen
Higher res screen 1280x800
Faster CPU/GPU
Front camera
Rear camera with flash
New more advanced UI that will play back flash and multitask.
Excellent battery
smart on screen button/home buttons
1GB memory
Micro USB2
HDMI output port
SD card supported
etc....

Irrespective of whether you like Android or not, those specs blow iPad1 out the water and send it into orbit.

Or course, it will be up against iPad2 which I expect to launch before the Xoom comes out.

I just hope iPad2 looks good against these specs from the Motorola tablet, as you can be sure the two will be compared again and again in consumer magazines which the general public read and take notice of.

I fully understand technical specs alone do not make a winning product, but you can't just ignore the competition either, and be smug thinking you don't really have to try very hard and you will still be No.1
The only problem with that tablet is it's not an iPad. No one cares about the specs on other devices if the iPad has a better OS and experience.

Apple will most likely add something no one is expecting. And it will be a large success.

Iam pretty happy with the way it is now with the ipad i have now ..The only really thing i would like would be a bigger harddrive for more storage but that it ..

To me alot of the things like a front faceing camera or rear faceing camera with flash make no sense to a normal use of the ipad that i use my ipad for in my life ..

Like the rear faceing camera with flash and the ipad is just to big to hold up and take pictures with the rear faceing camera when a small digtal compact set up is user to use in takeing pictures and the front faceing camera to a point i understand that reason why and do the same on the destop computer where it easly to work the system with a fixed camera system..

Plus go back a few years and look how long a standard cell phone battie life lasted before we start the race to add more and more features to the phone before it became a total other device and it no longer a just a cell phone for makeing phone calls ..

I do not think apple and it socalled ipad design team will take a step backwards in length of time that a ipad will run off the interal battie system before it need to be recharge by adding so many features to the ipad intill it becomes another overwhelm device ..

Hilarious. His post was a tad ironic wasn't it?...

Sadly, I don't think he was being ironic.

Well if you are going to be "That Guy too"
you should know he is referring to the movie by that name and is why the I is capitalized.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/
but yes he misspelled it as it should be Idiocracy
You misunderstood his comment.

I figured out it was a movie due to the Wiki link to said movie. In a usage like this, Idiocratic would still be the correct usage of the word Idiocracy in the same way that Democratic reality is correct but Democracy reality isn't, or theocratic reality vs theocracy reality.

This is Apple. This is 2011. This is a market now booming with wanna-be "iPad killers." Just watch, When Apple does release the specs for this 2nd Generation iPad, fans and critics alike are going to drop their jaws and confirm Apple's place as the industry standard for tablets. They aren't going to rest on their laurels and just put out a slightly improved iPad, they're going to have features we've never even considered, and lay claim to the tablet throne AGAIN.

Well said. Apple knows that the tablet market is going to be competitive, just like in 2010 with the rise of Android phones and their release of the iPhone 4. If the Daily and other iPad only magazines are a hit, it would be a significant advantage for Apple to push a "fine printed magazine experience" on the iPad with the hi res display. It's easy to get market share with the first iPad, but to keep it this year, it's going to take alot more.

Geez dude- don't let it ruin your day. I wasn't aware that wishful thinking and speculation was a sin. Why do I recall people being VERY surprised when the price of the first gen was announced- given the specs and quality of the product?

+1
hahahaha, people take this too personal

1. Us implies all, because you are not referring to a small number of people, so it is redundant.

2. Re: Spelling. Dang. heh

3. Re: Usage. Yours is still incorrect.

1. Us could be a small group, while "us all" refers to everyone and every group.

2. No worries, it happens... sometimes people will call you out. ;)

3. Dude, it a movie name. For instance, "one step closer to an Avatar reality" or "one step closer to a Batman reality." Get it?

3. In your usage, the nouns become adjectives. So your examples would become something like Avatarish and Batmanish. Since words like theocracy and democracy become theocratic and democratic when used as adjectives, by the same rules idiocracy would become idiocratic.

But back on track...how about that iPad 2.

Seriously.

U guys all want that?at what price? Ic no one is willing to pay more but u all asking for too many upgrades in just a year.

Some of u are even saying just make it slightly higher resolution. Pleasemuse some sense. It won't because of apps would have to be worked again.

If apple adds retina display on iPad, you will see price increase like something what apple does with ipod touch. They keep the last generation model with old CPU and gpu for 199 dollars and offer faster chips on 299 or 399 models. I expect same thing to happen on iPad.

499 dollars for 16 gb model with old specs
599 dollars for 32 gb model with retina display and improved specs
List goes on.

Everyone says competition blah blah. No there isn't one yet. Apple will sell Crush the wsj expectations on iPad 2 with retina display or not. It would be better for them wait for iPad 3 to have retina display. Stop dreaming or prepare to face some price increase.

So now you're the big adult who's telling the little 5 year old he can't wish for a present becasue Santa doesn't exist?

FYI; the iPad is very likeley to have

2 Cameras (Probably crappy, but still)
And a higher resolution. Not retina, but higher. Everyone knows apple has not made a processor that can pull a retina display on that big or a device.

Apple has a long history of providing incremental updates to its products, not revolutionary.

Apple fans have a long history of setting their expectations out of the realms of possibility.

I'll not be surprised to see a thread asking if the iPad 3 will have a neural net interface so the consumer can just think it, and it appears on the iPad :p

True, but the rate of technology is increasing. I do expect at minimum dual core, 1 gig of ram, (32,64,128) gig storage, two cameras, gyroscope.

But am hopeful for: retina display, usb or sd port, hdmi.

1st iPad was almost bare to the bones. iPhone 4 had more ram,a gyroscope, two cameras, etc.

A front facing camera I get. A rear facing camera makes no sense. I'll be bummed if it does have one. My reason? I don't want to see all of these nice cases (i.e. the Dodo Case) have to be changed to have a hole in the back. It would just look really awkward from a design sense. Plus, it's just way too awkward to hold up and snap a picture.

It wouldnt be for taking pictures or video, it would be for FaceTime. This way can show who your talking to what your looking at without turning the iPad around and trying to make sure you have that in the shot.

Haha when I saw the title of this thread, this came in mind ...

LOL. I get this joke. Is that a bad thing?

People seem to foget Apple Stated they priced the iPad very competively, its has a lower margin than any on the former products, thay are not gonig to reduce that margin any further, if they add cameras, more ram, bigger cpu, higher res screen this is gonig to add a lot to the price, even with there lower margins.

add to this that Apple is still lanching the iPad in some contries they are not going to make drastic changes yet. not after 1 year anyway, the iphone has a 2 year major revision cycle and i predict the ipad to be the same.

what i do beleive we will see this year is two things,

1st, a slight re design of the Wifi version with more ram may be a new faster CPU, these do not create masive costs to the build.

the second being a new 3G model replacing the old one, this will have the same as WIFI but with Face times cameras and SD card slot.

the price of the Wifi will remain the same however the 3G will increse slightly to compensate for the new HW.

you are not gonig to see a higher res screen this year, that will be 2012 when we see the next major revision.

The iPhone 4 has most of these, and the iPhone 5 will likely have the rest. It costs less than half what an iPad does. Why is that unrealistic?

But I will certainly concede that the Retina display seems less likely than it did a week ago.

An iPhone costs more than an iPad for the same amount of storage. You are not including the subsidies that the carriers pay Apple. Contract free pricing for the iPhone is $599/$699 for 16GB/32GB.

EDIT: I was comparing the wifi-only iPad. As pointed out below, the 3G iPad is slightly more expensive than an iPhone with the same amount of storage

Only because you have to sign up for a contract.

In the UK you can purchase an iPhone without a contract. Comparative prices are:

iPad 16gb (3G) - £541
iPhone 4 16gb - £510

EDIT - Beaten to it. I couldn't find the US prices without a contract.

Actually, the argument does sort of work with the iPod touch. The comparative 32gb prices (without 3G) are:

iPad $599
iPod Touch $299

Yeah, I'm feeling like this could be repeat of the original announcement. People thought the tablet was going to do everything short of cure cancer, and were sorely disappointed when the got a 'giant iPhone'.

I think Apple will likely boost the processor to dual core and will up the RAM to at least 512MB. We will probably also see expanded storage and cameras. I am still very skeptical about the retina display rumors though.

I could possible envision Apple adding it to the most expensive iPad, or just making it an upgrade for $200 or something. But as a standard it seems unlikely. Still I would love to see Apple do something crazy like this for once and just eat the cost so their dominance of the tablet market is cemented. I think competing tablets are already going to have trouble selling, but if Apple added that rumored retina display, it would be over before the battle even began.

It might be regardless. Android is a fine OS, but lets not pretend it's wide adoption is completely independent of regional carrier issues. The tablet market is a whole different beast where these issues don't exist. Unlike some people always extolling the virtues of 'competition', I don't think it is such a good thing. First, Apple is clearly the tech leader right now, and everyone else is following closely in their footsteps, with some different features for differentiation. But I don't for a second believe any of Apple's competitors have an impact on Apple's plans. They know they are the leader, and they are doing what they want and on their own timetable. I don't think Apple is in reactive mode at all right now. So instead, I want the iPad to be the standard tablet. The one with the broadest support and applications. I don't want a highly fractured market in this area like smartphones. Tablets are more like desktops, where dozens of OS variants would be a nightmare.

I'm more worried about what they're cutting to be honest. Apple has a bad habit of cutting corners for no real reason.

iPad only having 256 ram, no accessories (no headphones? Not even a cleaning cloth? Where's our early adoptee gift! Imcopatability with like 90% of accessories even though internals are pretty much the same, etc, etc)

It'll be real tragic if we have to buy our adapters with the next iPad or if the rear camera is only 1.3 mp or something.....

I really do think that people are being waaaay to quick to set their expectations sky high.

Who to blame? with all those latest technology we are experiencing now a days more and more people are expecting to see more of it sometimes this progress is making me a little bit scared for some reason LOL!!
