I'm trying it. So far it's exactly the same as AT&T. Lol. But I figured I'd try it around a number of areas I frequent. I've had AT&T for over a decade, ever since I got my first iPhone. So might as well see what the other options are like.

Every cellphone service claims they have the best network yet I have yet to see in real life one that is actually better than the other. At best, one is better in a specific site/region meanwhile the other is better in another sight/region.

interesting, i noticed absolutely no difference going between t-mobile and at&t and then back again)

This was my experience when I had both AT&T and TMobile SIM cards installed on a OnePlus phone a few years ago. Traveled through NJ, eastern PA, CT, MA, NH, and ME. In those areas I generally found both services equal.

That’s exciting news! I’ve had AT&T since switching from Verizon back in 2007 to buy the original iPhone. They are overpriced but I’ve been nervous about T-Mobile’s network when you’re off the beaten path where I live. I did take advantage of the deal AT&T offered on the iPhone 12 which let you finance the iPhone 12 Pro for around $200 spread over a two year commitment via monthly rebate credits so I’ll be with AT&T for another year and a quarter but after that, if T-Mobile is up to snuff, I’m out. Especially if they’ve got a good deal on an iPhone 14.
We’ve stayed with AT&T since about 2008 due to an old employer discount I still get plus the decent international roaming since we travel a bit, or did until last year.

Now we’re looking to possibly switch. TMobile and Consumer Cellular are the ones we’re looking at. I’m leaning more toward TMobile because we expect to resume traveling, but the idea I could use either ATT or TMobile networks at a cheaper price with Consumer Cellular has me still undecided.

yup — much the same in my ny, fl and ca experiences.

I was trying to figure out how to make a call on the secondary line, not like you can go into the phone app and press on a contact and choose call with a number.
so I turned off my primary and then it let me call with the secondary but after I was done I turned on my primary and iMessage was all messed up for a little bit, alarmed me like it was erasing data but it all came back.

What you were told about the tower may or may not be true. I have found that more times than not, CSR will tell you whatever it takes to keep you on the roll.

Doing a speed test in their store is not accurate as they use cell boosters to make the signal appear stronger than it really is.
I remember when I tried T-Mobile many years ago when Cingular was becoming ATT and I didn’t want any part of that. TMobile couldn’t set up the phone in their store because the signal was so bad, so we stepped outside. Then I took it to the parking garage and had no signal, then at home had no signal so returned it the next day. So ended up just going with ATT anyway.

Unbelievable.

I finally went to a T-Mobile store to do a speed test vs. ATT. T-Mobile was 400+MBs whereas ATT was around 80 (specific to this location).

Went back today to switch and when I got home I barely get any data service period! I called to cancel but they said a 5G tower will be up on July 16th. Maybe I’ll wait wish I knew about this lol!

edit: I was charged $30 per line for setting up in store with employee so if you’re tech savvy order SIM cards online. You’ll need to unlock your phone but with ATT is was super easy and fast!

They’ll also charge you a fee to upgrade in store. I did everything online to avoid that fee.

Yup that’s how they get people.

What a fantastic program! I’ll definitely use this next time I go for a road trip so I can really put their network through the paces. Haven’t been a TMobile customer since 2005 but loved their customer service (network back then not so much).

That's odd, so you basically get 30 days of free service over and over?
Likely using a feature where t-mo can get two flags per device, even across device wipes and apple id changes. One flag would be 'test drive initiated', so once they set that Apple will tattle on that sort of plan :)

The feature was added back in the day at request of Uber (who was doing a bunch of device tracking nonsense to try to prevent people from redeeming the new driver promo multiple times)

Running it on my 2018 11” Pro now. Good news is the app works seamlessly and setup was super simple.
Bad news is performance is a joke. I’ve got two bars and pulling 33 down/2.7 up. With AT&T I get 73 down/18 up. I like that they’re doing this but in my case it just confirmed I’m clearly with the right carrier for my area.

May have to try this. Sprint messaged me awhile back about changing out my Sprint sim card and get a T-mobile one.

I'm not ready to do that yet. Last year I took one of my older iPhones and put a T-Mobile card in it. The coverage sucked out loud. Virtually no signal both at home and at work. I literally had to go outside and well into my back yard just to get any sort of service at all.

So at least this way I can try it again via that e-sim. Hope it has improved since the last time I tried T-Mobile out.

I can't get this to work. I'm currently on VZW, and it keeps telling me that my eSIM is currently in use. 🤷‍♂️

I'd switch but for two (2) things...
a) Coverage (e.g., voice, data, 5G, etc.). --Los Angeles metro/county, anyone?
b) T-Mobile can't beat the first responders/teachers discount on ATT.
It's pretty solid in LA metro, or at least it was five years ago. I can't imagine it has gotten worse. As far as 5G, can't comment, though my friend uses them and is happy.

As far as the discount, couldn't say that either. My wife has corporate lines with ATT that I am pretty sure nobody can touch. We pay something like $60 for 5 lines before taxes/fees so as much as we liked TMO we couldnt justify it. As an aside, TMO and ATT out here in new england are virtually identical in service, dead spots, etc.

I found that in vermont, I was roaming on ATT's network with tmobile for quite a ways, though everywhere else we went it was virtually the same.

asking for a friend, who is a non-US citizen: can he use this test drive eSIM instead of a tourist plan when he comes to visit the US for 3 weeks a year? What information do you have to provide at the sign-up process? Thanks

Here in NYC speeds are slower compared to ATT where towers and deflectors are plentiful
Plan Prices and Perks are better on T mobile so it depends what your looking for

You need to create contact groups and then you can assign a specific ringtone to each group. Apple does not allow assigning a specific ringtone to contacts not in groups, which I think it rather shortsighted.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying here, but you can assign ringtones to individual contacts - just Edit the contact and there's a Ringtone field. Or was the OP referring to assigning different ringtones to the same contact depending on which SIM the call is coming through on?
