I didn't have this good of a service before on 3G, so I think that apple may have it automatically switching between 3G and edge depending on which is the best at the time and location....

When I had my 3GS on 3G here I had 1 bar most of the time...

I work in a municipal gov't building and I don't know why but there is some kind of crazy 3G killing phantom phenomenon going on there. I get FULL bars of 3G but when I try to use anything that would require data the phone literally thinks that is has no data connection.

For example, if I try to do anything that requires data I get the "NO INTERNET" message. It's really aggravating. However, it hasn't always been that big of an issue because on my iPhone 4 I would just switch to EDGE when I got to work and I was still able to check my e-mail, browse the web (albeit slowly), and use TextFree, etc.

So today is my first day at work with the 4S and to my horror this morning I notice I can't toggle to EDGE. Fantastic. Essentially renders my phone useless for 45-50 hrs a week.

People on limited data plan are screwed then. :(

Or if you are overseas, you want to avoid the roaming fees on data...yet you'd like to receive calls.

Deal breaker? very close...

That sucks.

Not that I'm getting an iPhone 4S, still got a year left of my contract, but this would imply that the next iPhone won't have this switch either.

3G reception is no where near as good as GPRS, especially indoors. In my apartment, I turn 3G off because if I walk around during a call with 3G on, it'll drop, where as if I turn it off and use GPRS, it's fine.
