But it uses less than 1kb of data per message. Even if you send 1000 iMessages in a month, thats still at most 1mb of monthly data. Thats nothing.

You're missing the point. You're justifying an IRRELEVANT argument. He has unlimited texting so there is NO NEED.

You can justify the efficiency of a prius all you want, but if I WANT to use a bicycle that's ultimately cheaper and more beneficial for me, there's no reason to use a prius, just to use an analogy.

We all know the intricacies of data usage. Nobody is arguing that.

However, you seem to be stuck on arguing a point that NOBODY CARES ABOUT.

Get over it. We can use unlimited of x, why would we use Y which, no matter how small, still impacts the total of z?

If I sat here and talked to you for an hour about the benefits of using a rowboat when you could just drive for FREE, would you listen? Given both modes offer the exact same experience. NO. You're arguing against rational logic here, you aren't helping yourself in any way.

My point is ultimately you will not be affected in anyway by iMessage, you won't have any less monthly data to use, so why wouldn't you take advantage of it's better features (updates whether they've received or read the message, sending location, synching across devices, etc) that it has over regular texting?

Also, you're horrible at coming up with analogies, no offense. Bike:prius and rowboat:car is nothing similar to texting:iMessage.

Does anyone know if you can use imessage when in airplane mode and wifi enabled?

1) Obviously not much effort was put into it, your emphasis on this nuance shows your perceived lack of importance on the actual topic at hand. IMO.

2) We all know that, I'm simply saying that it's irrelevant to use it when we have unlimited data.

3) Well you should have stated those benefits in the beginning, don't you think? Obviously there are some; why I woudl want to send my location info with that instead of just plainly saying where I am is beyond me though.

Synching across devices? If I'm texting on an iPad, obviously it would help; although seeing as I would use my phone to text people.... that point is dependent on the user's use, in which you should direct THAT comment to the guy who you were originally arguing with, not me.

Sean, let's just move on with this and be done. There really is no point to argue here, especially over this.

However, I will say that the only topic I was commenting on was the data usage of iMessage, that is the only thing I am focusing on. I did not read the entire thread, only the last few posts, so I was unaware of everything that was being discussed prior to the two posts I replied to. So by focusing on the data usage, I am not trying to avoid any larger premise that is being debated.

How'd you know my name is Sean?

You just reminded me of this kid I went to high school with, Sean Jackson was his name, and so I thought it would be funny to me to call you that. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or nothing.

Hot damn. Well lookey who it is.

I feel like I've just been punked or somethin

You should get spectator passes with Nick and go to MLG Orlando tomorrow or saturday or something;

I'm up here getting off the soap box arguing and you over there laughing and just enjoyin this like it's just the funniest thing.

I want to man, but good ole' FAMU has got me wrapped up all weekend. Are you going?

Hahahaha; naugh man, that's my brother Chris. He likes to stay under the radar, kinda like

But a little less dramatic.

See, this is a little better, I like how you completely changed your writing style when you thought I was your friend. It's less serious which is good. Too many people around here talk with a "holier than thou" stick up their butt. I honestly wasn't trying to start stuff earlier, I didn't read the thread, should have, my bad.

Don't wanna jack the thread and I didn't want to make a new one since it has to do with iMessage but is there any way to have group chat in iMessage like Beluga or BBM Groups?

I seriously believe the US carriers will not go along with allowing iMessage, as they do not want anything eating their profits away. Sure RIM does it, but APPLE is becoming a much larger player than RIM. They will either block that feature, or charge per message.

Why do they care, its using your data to check, and that means the more data you use, the closer you are to having to spend $10 - $15 more on another 1GB or 200 MB... I personally would rather have my data and send it as a text, but it doesn't make me a difference, I don't think ill go over 2GB.

Because they don't want it to replace a $20 a month texting plan, they don't care about the data usage.

Yes you can.

I haven't gotten this to work. Any time I have airplane mode on and wireless enabled it tells me I can't send or receive messages. I don't see why not because enabling my network just causes my phone to roam pointlessly (I have cancelled service). Any thoughts?

Its cool now cause I can use my iPad to text now.

Also iMessages isnt really a big deal to me cause I have unlimited data and unlimited texting but since we have 3 iPhone and 2 iPads this is good.

Just a thought, but though he might have unlimited texting, his friends might not. Especially now that it's unlimited or nothing, and pay-per-use is 20c on AT&T. So, why not enable iMessage, if it doesn't cost you anything, isn't terribly inconvenient, and could save your friends a few bucks?
