The original was awful! Even Dahl hated it! It was just an ego trip for Gene Wilder.

But it was still a commercial success.

As Mike Teezie brings up, it's hard not to at least break even with these remakes... the suckers - er, I mean built-in audience - will go regardless of quality.

(And on that note, I'll probably go see this Karate Kid movie...)
