I'll consider the folding iPhone when it comes out. I don't like what I'm hearing about the camera quality being a net DECLINE from my 16, so I'll be really careful in my decision.

Plus, I'm also only a year or so into my iPhone 16 pro-plus-ultimate-super-duper-whatever-whatever, and I do like to go as many as 4 years between iPhone upgrades. So in another 3 years or so, the folding iPhone will most definitely have a number of improvements, including screen, hinge, and camera.

So I'll look at it when they come out. But right now, I'd rather upgrade my M1 MBP to an M6 (when the MBP gets refreshed later this year or in 2027). And THAT is going to cost a pretty penny, even if I trade in my M1 as part of the purchase.

Basically, I'm in a position of power here. I'm not forced by technology or circumstance to to upgrade either one, I have money, and I'm digging the technology.

If nothing else, it is something different to try out. Why not? Give it a shot, and if it is sold one year later (potentially reverting back to a standard Pro model) then the resale will be high enough that it isn't a complete waste.

I am not the target audience for a folding phone to begin with, but if the renders are true this phone is even less appealing to me than the iPhone Air with it being so short when closed and wide when open. I will be curious to see it in real life of course and excited to see what purchasers think. I will stick with the 18 Pro Max it better meets my needs.

A lot of people seem to be very invested in Apple failing somehow. But this is not a big change from a couple decades ago.

What actually HAS changed is how many people would be hurt if Apple started doing poorly.

Anybody who has a 401k or other investment, it's probably got some APPL stock in there somewhere, at least in a mutual fund or an index ETF. Sure, it might be only 5% or 7% of that particular holding in that one account, but the market moves broadly too. When Apple does well, then a lot of other things do well too.

And THIS is the real disservice that today's US public schools fail so badly on. It's borderline abusive, the bad education we're getting.

100% Yes. I've been holding my 13Mini and it's getting long in the tooth. I want the smallest form factor I can find with Max iOS performance. I own an iPad, and iPad mini, a laptop, and a desktop...even have VisionOS...I want something I can put in my pocket and forget about unless I need it. If the watch had the capability of iOS, I wouldn't even carry a phone with me.

This is such a rage bait post and thread. None of these things have been confirmed nor are they facts, going off rumours and analyst positions is not a good way to live nor is it a good way to base your purchasing decisions.

I very much doubt Apple will release an iPhone that starts over $2000 USD.

Yep, iPhones are not the affordable option for getting into the Apple ecosystem. iPads, bar the base model, are not a particularly cheap option either.

Which isn’t that surprising, when you think about it. Macs don’t need GSM modems, the range of sensors or the level of miniaturisation that iphones and higher end iPads have.

Smaller no longer means cheaper with many aspects of modern tech. Smaller means more expensive.

I bought a used Pixel Fold for the 'experience points', and for me, although it's a neat party trick, it's not something I find sufficiently useful to pay Apple rates for. (this thing is fat and heavy as well)

Maybe Apple really will make a breakthrough in terms of durability. If so, I’d actually consider it.

After all it took, I think, three years from the first foldable phone to the first honest review.
Even today, most of the “reviews” are just promotional pieces because the reviewers aren’t even allowed to test the devices properly. Because they’re not supposed to break.

It just seems like a gimmick to me. Glad they learned how to fold a screen properly, that lesson may pay off later - maybe they’ll fold up a regular sized iPad in fourths to fit in my pocket. I don’t really need a WAY more expensive phone with a worse camera that is too small to use folded and too unwieldy to use unfolded. My ProMax is big, but fits in my pocket and I have a snap grip for MagSafe (does the fold phone omit MagSafe too?).

I feel like some people with cashola may buy this to be interesting and a curiosity because they can’t buy an interesting personality. Heck I’d like to see one and how they manage to use it so it’s a good temporary flex if you’ve got the money 💰 and care what other people think,

I would not buy any pholding phone. I have seen at least 65 percent of all other folidng devices I have sold come back to the store. NO THANKS.

I can't see apple acutally doing this. Ternus should axe that right away. It cuts into ipad mini sales. At that point, might as well put MacOS on the iPad.

Sorry but you appear to not understand what folding phones have cost. Samsung's first folding phone introduced almost 7 years ago, listed for $1980 in Sept 2019. Expecting Apples 2026-7 Fold to be noticeably cheaper is most likely dreaming. 😉
