No reason to trade in a 17PM for an 18PM with such minor upgrades year over year, so keeping the 17PM and getting a folding iPhone for sure. Still unsure if I am replacing my Pixel 10P with an 11PXL though. And getting a Unihertz Titan 2 Elite Pro to finish up the year. Because he who dies with the most toys wins.

Not necessarily buying for me. But getting one for my lady... as @Flowstates mentioned having a iPad Mini in your pocket is the selling point. Coming from the Galaxy Fold... been on the foldable train since the 2nd generation, don't see myself ever buying a slab phone anymore.

I'm bi (fold) curious. My two small-screen devices are the iPad Mini and iPhone Mini. If I can replace both with one, I will. But I'm not going to pre-order, I'll try the fold in the store and see how it works for single hand use. Despite popular belief, my hands haven't grown much since 2007 and the Mini is already larger than the original Samsung Phablet.

I'm considering it. I often receive documents such as PDFs that I have to read while out and about. On my current phone, that means moving the document all over the place while I read. A larger screen potentially solves that problem. Also, I potentially could do light photo editing on a foldable phone. Right now, I would do that only on an iPad or a Mac. And I can think of situations in which it would be useful to have two phone-sized apps open next to each other, assuming that's possible on this device.

So yes, it seems like it would make my life easier. The (giant) downside for me is that I've fallen in love with my iPhone Air. While I originally thought my Air would be a one-year bridge phone until the foldable phone was available, I really don't want to get anything thicker at this point. So that will be my personal decision point.

Anyone here deliberately going to buy a Folding iPhone please share with us Why ? And $1,000 Extra on top of regular iPhone Pro Max prices allegedly.
Sorry but I do not know what it is that I might or might not buy of some unseen product. Except probably no if cameras are less than maximum. Ask after the folds are in stores.

As to the extra $1k, that is about personal finances and perceived personal value. Obviously YMMV, but for some folks [me] having an iPhone plus an iPad Mini that fits in your pocket all as one device would be quite useful. Also note that pricewise it is two devices that would be being provided.

Why wouldn't somebody in the market for a new iPhone at least consider it?

So instead of getting ~50% off the 18PM you're just going to buy a whole new device that costs twice as much without trading anything in? Oh Apple LOVES you.

I would consider buying a folding iPhone because it's more compact than the unfortunately common phablets when folded - if it weren't for that ridiculous price.

I have an iPad Pro that is a pleasure to read on. My 17 Pro Max has amazing battery life but it is a pain to carry everywhere (I regularly walk 6-10 miles) - wish I had kept my Air.

Nope, not planning on getting the foldable iPhone.

Going to try to keep this for 4 years+.

There's so many unknowns right now. One specific thing I'm missing in the mockups that are appearing ... will it have a front screen like the Galaxy Fold when the phone is closed? Or does the phone have to be opened to use?

Thickness is an issue. Portability is. Unlocking is. If it's with fingerprint instead of Face ID then I'm out. I hate the fingerprint setup on my iPad mini. Never realised the mini didn't have Face ID, so that's on me. OS is an unknown. Will it run iPadOS when opened? Or iOS?

I'm tempted to upgrade my iPhone 14 Pro and to be rid of devices with a Lightning port. If this folding iPhone misses important features (or is just too damn expensive) then I'd more more interested in an iPhone Air 2.

Excited to see it, regardless.
