When Windows XP takes 3 mins to go to the login screen, 2 mins to be able to see the desktop icons and then another 4 mins to actually start Firefox... thats when I got my iBook, my poor sister still has to have that POS😛

As for me, it's been when I realized that I was making my own drum solos with my fingers on the wrist-rest area of my laptop while I was waiting for programs to load. Shameful, I know.

when an image of a logo in the sky pops up that says "Windows98" and it takes forever to load up...that's my dad's machine but he's going to replace that with a core duo imac 🙂

No, it doesn't mean 4.32 GHz. It means TWO 2.16GHz processors. Dual processors don't boost speed by 100%, but instead by around ~40%.

but the core duo will probably become standard in most laptops, followed by something amd makes

Interesting... I'd like to see some desktop-power-tests done with the Core Duo to see if 40% is not unreasonable, just unattainable with laptops.

AMD's current dual-core offering generated too much heat for widespread laptop usage. It will be interesting to see what the future holds, however.

Sinclair ZX-81. Had a extra ram (64 kb as I remember) and used a tape recorder to save applications. My father spent the extra $100 and had it sent pre-built.

You know its time for a new computer (specifically a Mac) when:

(a) you euthanize your desktop after facing both hardware and software (XP) problems for 6 months where you can't hardly do anything without the entire system crashing.

(b) you spend the better part of a 3 day weekend trying to remove viruses and spyware from your wife's Dell notebook and Windows has only been installed on it for 3 weeks thanks to the "top of the line" security software provided by your isp....

If I had not been so worried about soil contamination issues, I would have taken my old desktop out to my family's farm and blasted it with my shotgun several times....it would have been so much more therapeutic than dropping it off at a recycling center....

Bought an 20" iMac G5 back on 1/12 and absolutely love it....
