AT&T does have 5 star customer service, it just depends on who you talk to. All the reps in my local AT&T store are personable and willing to help. When I was having an issue with an unfair required deposit to upgrade to the iPhone 3G, I called AT&T Mobility's presidential customer service and they waived a large deposit for me, no questions asked and the rep was very friendly and helpful. He seemed genuinely concerned about my problems. I was glad to be an AT&T customer when I was on the phone with him.

this is a pretty big deal for them to be as helpful as they were if you've ever had to deal with verizon's hap-hazard customer service

Word. I've experienced what they call "Verizon Customer Service" and it isn't pretty. I am so glad I jumped ship and hopefully my family will follow in the winter, when their contract is up. Unfortunatly, Verizon is very popular in my area and people stick with it for the benefits of IN calling. People say "Everyone that I know has Verizon." AT&T users are rare and treated like cell phone pariahs.

i guess the folks that dont seem to agree even in the slightest of the OPs opinion have never made a mistake in their life. how does it feel to walk on water?

To the people who are saying that "you are happy with them for doing what they were supposed to? Please", as I understand it, the guy was still under contract from his old iPhone. I may have misunderstood him, but if this was the case, then every other phone company I know of would have still charged him for service, possibly unless you threatened to terminate your service. They had the legal right to do so. So yes, it is a pleasant surprise that they took off his charges.

To the guy who was on a month to month, but couldn't become eligible, why couldn't you jsut end your account and start a new one with the new iPhone? If you are on month to month, you can end your account at any time without penalty. Why couldn't you just end your contract and then sign up as a new user?

as for the comment about mcdonalds being 5 stars I can't tell you the number of times I have gone there and they ducked up my order and their employees are often resentful unlike the we love to see you smile bs they feed you on tv mcdonalds is .02 stars and I'll never eat there again if I don't have to... Long story short Mcdonalds is crap and their food is disgusting poor customer service

Sprint never would have taken off the charge..... and they'd probably charge you an extra $5 for complaining.

My experience with sprint in 2004. They took off my sprint to sprint by accident resulting in me going over my day time minutes within 3 days. They fixed it and gave me unlimited calls for 3 whole months.

Some of these people crack me up. Mistakes happen, and the rep and the company handled it in the exact way that a customer would want, hence a 5 star response, why is this so difficult to comprehend.

These are the same people who probably rave about everything that Apple does, but won't give any type of credit to another company.

I don't know about AT&T but the people at the apple store in Miami (The Falls) are douchebags..They can eat my cornhole for all I care. They don't want to replace my iPhone 3G even though the battery lasts 2 hours with push, location services, and 3G off. I even charge it and I wake up with half the battery without even using it. I went to the apple store in Miami beach and with no argument they changed my phone.

That's where I got my iPhone.
Miami Beach... Everyone is so friendly in that store!

+1. They have very nice customer service reps. If i've ever had a problem with a bill, they correct it. The in-store rep messed up my plan and i got a large bill. AT&T not only apologized for the inconvenience, but gave me a nice credit for the inconvenience. My bill went from over $100 to less than $30. Very nice.
As far as Verizon... i've been having trouble with my DSL for weeks. They can't seem to help me and the reps on the phone are not very nice at all. One hung up on me. They are terrible and i'm still suffering with my internet dropping out for hours. Have they offered any credit for all my time and frustration? NO. They haven't. They SUCK big time. I wish i could cancel it but i need to keep that email address since it's out there to potential employers. I'm beside myself with Verizon. I've actually called them in tears and they just don't care.

I can't simply end my contract because for some unknown reason it says my contract doesn't expire until 10/24/08. AT&T seems incapable of explaining how that happened, much less correcting the problem. So even though they admit I currently don't actually HAVE a contract with them, they cannot take the 10/24/08 expiration date off. I was promised that it would be resolved "within 24 hours".....but I knew that was a bald-faced lie....corporate speak for "shut up and quit bugging us". Of course, it was not. You seem very naive......if it was that simple I wouldn't be here wasting bandwidth.

I have been very impressed with the customer service I have received over the phone. It's easy to talk to a real person and they all been friendly and helpful. It's only been a couple of weeks but so far I'm very pleased with ATT.

I find AT&T customer service to be very hit or miss

As a company, we used AT&T for 3 years from 2001-2004 and it was arguably the single worst customer service anyone in the company had ever had....period and no one disagreed at all.

I went to Verizon and back to AT&T when the iPhone came out and have been satisfied the 2-3 times I called AT&T so I just hope they got better
