Why is he banned?
My guess is...

He's under the age limit. 13 is the minimum age and he's 12. I'm sure his ban will lift when he turns 13 and he's more than welcome to return.
That's why he was banned. Since we only know his age in years (well, he could be even younger) and since his birth date was faked, he was banned for a year, even if his true birthday is tomorrow. And we're monitoring the IP, just in case.

Just out of interest, is there a reason members must be over 14 before they can register? It seems like a pretty random age so I was just wondering the significance.

I love the younger members. They add energy and enthusiasm. :)

It cant be 14 because im 13.

It's 13...I thought there was some sort of legal ruling or something that made MR choose that as the cutoff, but I could be making that up...it wouldn't be the first time I've done that.

Good i was worried for a second.

I'm 13.

My birthday is 3-22-93.

I believe that at one time I was possibly the youngest.

And I wonder if I'm still the youngest girl.

Awww. That seriously made me smile. :D

My maturity level is the youngest :D Just kidding. I'm pretty sure the age limit on most forums now is 13

You might wanna delete that or all the 13/14 year old boys here will be all over you!

All the 13 year old boys? Who's stopping the rest of the sickos?

This is the internet, little girl. Lots of weirdos on the internet.

This may have been the biggest mistake anyone has ever made. Don't allow personal PMs, and um......stay in school.

The minimum age is 13. It's the standard for vBulletin, and is based on the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. Since the site content isn't specifically directed toward children as a target audience, but some site content is "mature", MacRumors excludes those who say they are under 13 rather than use the more complicated registration process (which requires parental involvement) that would be required if children were freely permitted to join.

Having some minimum age makes sense both to shield children from certain content and to try to lessen the number of forum members who would be too immature to follow rules and discuss Mac news and rumors intelligently. Age is only a crude indicator of mental maturity, but it'll have to do.

What if he just re-registers? Is that why you're monitoring the IP?

Hmmm, yes, there are a lot of weirdos on the internet. But if I don't respond to weird PMs and don't give out personal info, I don't see the big risk.

Now 14 year-old girls on MySpace who post near nude pictures of themselves, love "guuuuys 0mGz," have their full names, "Would like to to meet: Anyone interest me, im me anytime and we can chat," and have perhaps other personal info and will answer messages and ims.

I think they have a little bit more of a problem.

I'm not saying the internet is a jolly safe place to be if one's not incredibly stupid, but... I feel like if I'm safe and don't respond to weird PMs (which knock on wood, ihaventrecievedatthispoint, okthatwasprobablydumbtosay) then I'll be okay.

i agree with you ..my father ALWAYS talks to me about being safe on the internet and not talking to people i dont know..but he made an acception for Mac Rumors Forums because if there is a problem with my computer he is glad that MR pople can help instead of taking it to the apple store..and becuase im not giving out personal info i KNOW my father trusts me and i have nothing to hide from him...And by the way im 13!!!!!!! Finally a fellow young mac GEEK...and not many people take me seriously when im in an Apple store becuase of my age, thinking i dont know what RAM is and simple things but i actully do complicated thing...well sort of:D :D :D but yes i agree with you.

Been there. It took me a while to get any form of respect in my local Mac store. Still remember waiting around for over an hour as sales people rushed past me to lost looking 30 year old+ customers who they could sell expensive overkill Macs to.

I amused myself though. I occasionally would help people out in the store. I got a dirty look a couple times after showing people who expressed only wanting to do Word and email the iBook, after the salesperson presented them a top-of-line Powerbook and didn't even mention the iBook's existence(true story). I got the same treatment in Futureshop as well.

Ah well. No one really respects you until you have a credit card, it seems. Hang in there.
