Friends and acquaintances who forward me huge emails with strings of photos of cute baby animals or whaever, or chain mail hoaxes, or petitions to save the something or other. If they do not cease and desist, I offer them a different email address and just flush the box once in awhile... but it's annoying.

Games and even some productivity apps that write the ongoing story of their life to the console as if the thing were still in prre-release mode. For heaven's sake! Clean the thing up before you ship it. Or at least put a preference option.

Websites with javascripts from a million tracking sites among say a dozen that are actually needed to load any content. HATE THEM.

People in my own family who do not back up their machines and then call me to ask for tips or suggestions when their gear croaks.

The legalese (or is it psychobabble?) of "terms and conditions" and "privacy policy" and "License Agreement". They amount to saying they can do whatever they want and we can eitherr say go for it or we can unregister and (maybe) delete our account information. The most egregious stuff I've run into lately is at the Washington Post, post-purchase by Jeff Bezos... not to mention that when you sign in now, you have to allow a javascript to an amazon server, not previously the case... and the privacy policy is a masterpiece of obfuscation about what, exactly, they might do with respect to your data and matching it to third partie's data about you. Like, presumably, Amazon 's data about you. They don't say so but they don't not say so. I'm an unhappy camper!

Two spaces in-between sentences, rather than one. Like this.

Oh dear Og, don't get me started on this, I just had this same discussion on FaceBook.

My pet peeve:

Files and folders all over the desktop. Oh, this drives me crazy. My wife does this. She claims she can't find anything without it being on the desktop. I finally got her a MacBook of her own because I couldn't stand the thought of that organizational chaos was only a user login away.

(She has gotten a little better: getting her a Dropbox account has forced her to stuff things in there rather than the desktop. Still...)

Here's one that I don't know if I posted yet somewhere else yet, but I freaking HATE hearing people say "Google Earth FOUND this..."

People, Google Earth is an APP, not a sentient being that "finds" things. I also hate hearing people give Google credit for the imagery when Google has NO imagery satellites. You can always find either A: the completely uneducated person saying this or B: the completely uneducated Google fanboy saying this.

Google Earth is an app to use imagery, NOT a SOURCE of imagery.

I hate when I see people eating or drinking over a laptop. Its like watching a train wreck about to happen. You know they are going to spill something on the laptop but you just can't bear to watch…...

I can't stand when people...
1. Say iPads or tablets are computers. (Especially when they claim the Surface is a computer. It's not.)
2. Use google for everything without ever considering how it tracks you (seriously, you ARE the product with google.)
3. Claim google doesn't track them(Those people haven't even read eh privacy policy)
4. Use internet explorer(It's freaking 2014. Use Safari or Firefox or something else. Not chrome.)
5. Claim they know more about tech than you, yet know 0 coding languages, and can't fix a computer issue on their own(Serously, stop trying to look cool or smart.)

- infinite scrolling on websites
- fixed headers and hamburger icons that take 5 seconds to load on mobile using wifi

make me very irritated

Tablets and iPads can be computers to some people. Definition of a computer according to google: "an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program." Tablets do that, and so does a Surface. Surface=iPad in function, without regard to apps, keyboard, USB port, etc.

I have a lot of pet peeves, especially when the teacher is using their computer on the projector.

Some of these things shouldn't bother me because it isn't my computer, but they do bug me, so they're listed for that reason.

  1. When a teacher is using an obviously dated laptop with low memory, a new operating system and 10 open programs and 20 open Internet browser tabs, then complain about it being slow. I had a teacher who did this last year.
  2. People who don't organize files on the desktop into folders. In other words, a very messy desktop.
  3. Extreme fans of any company, be it Apple, Microsoft or Linux. (Linux isn't a company, but whatever.) They bother me because they put me/others down for my/their choice of system, like I'm/they're not allowed to use it. So what I like Windows? My choice doesn't affect you! It works well, thank you very much. If it makes them happy, I have three Macs.
  4. People who say tablets/phones aren't computers. Though they aren't classified as, referred to as or advertised as such, they are computers. Computers are devices that process and store data, most commonly known as running applications and saving files. Isn't this what tablets and phones do?
  5. Computer applications that display advertisements.
  6. When people try to dictate my next purchase with a computer for ANY reason. I know what's the best choice for me and I like to be left to it. If they give me tips, that is okay, it's when they try to persuade me to get something that bothers me.

That's funny. When I went to school, the teachers never new how to operate the video player. They would always mess it up. Seems like teachers always know less than the kids when it comes to technology!

Omg, this has PERSISTED for so long on the web & drives me crazy:
When you go to enter your email & password on a site you haven't been to for a while, you forget your password so you click "send me my password" & it asks you to enter your email address!
Hello, I JUST entered it!!!! Why not use that data to propagate this field, instead of making me retype it. Umm.... exactly NONE of us forget our email addies. Passwords... sure. After all, some sites require a six letter one, some an eight, some caps, some numerals, etc. it is perfectly logical that we forgot which one we used on your site, stupid Mr. Webmaster.... but I can ASSURE you, I did not forget my email. I typed it in correctly the first time before accidentally typing the wrong password & I'm already annoyed over that, so you clearing my perfectly typed email address away the moment I click "send me my password" seems moronic beyond bounds.

How about just use a password app to remember your passwords.

No thanks.

What would I rant about? =P

The other annoyance I have is online forms that aren't formatted for the input they want... like you're typing in a phone number & you have to press tab twice b/c the cursor doesn't advance once you've filled the three digit slot for area code.
Also, forms that auto capitalize your email address. Ffs, email addies don't have caps... & I don't want to see mine in a manner that frankly, looks misspelled to me every time I'm in user settings, so I have to go back & edit out the cap. Lol, nitpicky, I know- but I find it annoying.

I rarely check FB. But I hate when I'm scrolling down the news feed and see a post with some sick baby with a huge rash all over it or some weird crap like that. I immediately hit Unsubscribe to that person's feed. Just yesterday I 86’ed a good friend who put a giant spider on my screen. I'm down to just a few news feeds. Zero tolerance.

That's funny. When I went to school, the teachers never new how to operate the video player. They would always mess it up. Seems like teachers always know less than the kids when it comes to technology!

Some of the teachers at my school have been bringing in their own computers. One of them I know purchased a workstation-class laptop from HP (Which costs A LOT of money) because they were complaining of their slow computers.

This is what bothers me:

Though my school has been bringing in an update plan for the teachers by buying them new Toshiba laptops (They are still fairly weak, and I believe only have Intel Core i3 processors and aren't much more capable than their previous laptops) most of the teachers haven't gotten new computers yet and still use Toshiba Satellites from roughly 2003-2004, and they are by no means capable of running Windows 7 optimally. I just looked up the specific model they have - They use Toshiba Satellite Pro M70s, only capable of expanding RAM to 2GB, and on 64-bit (I think that's what they have) Windows 7, this is not enough. They then continue to run a lot of programs all in one go, and sometimes a lot of tabs. The teacher I mentioned in my list usually had Internet Explorer and Firefox running, each with about 5-7 tabs open, an Email client open, MS Word and PowerPoint running and Windows Media Player and VLC running. This causes issues, especially when the teacher tries to play a video, and with the school's slow Internet, it is really annoying.

What bothers me more is the fact that the school isn't buying all of the teachers up-to-date computers, yet they bought at least 12 iMacs (they then installed Windows, and I have not been able to find any traces of Mac OS X) for use in the library. Like, really?!

1. when a url or text is highlighted and people insist on deleting it instead of just typing over it.

2. choosing the first link after a search without thinking, even when it says advertisement and it is not what they are looking for.

3. someone mentioned before about picking up the mouse off the table to move it instead of sliding it.

4. cluttered desktop

5. sticky notes with passwords on them attached to the monitor

6. keyboards with food in them

7. people who do not try to fix a simple problem on their own with the help of the internet.

there are many more but this is a start

My pet peeve is stupid people :p

The other day at work, someone had a problem with some software. They took a screenshot of the error message and pasted it into Outlook. They then took a screenshot of Outlook and pasted it into Word or similar, printed it, then scanned it to PDF.

I therefore ended up receiving a scanned PDF of a screenshot with an Outlook window frame around it. I can't begin to fathom the thought process that led to that!
