I wasn't yet a teenager then, but Vector had their shop just down the street from where I spent my early years, so I was a fanboy. And yep, I also drooled over Crockett's white Testarossa. :)

did you make any photos of the VECTOR back on those days?

Ferrari f40 hands down
I also love the ford rs200 rally
And the Ferrari 288 GTO, along with the Porsche 959

My favourite: drives like a cross between a Bentley and a 10-ton truck.

I used to absolutely love the Lancia Deltas

For the money, this was the best car of the 80's (and early 90's) without a doubt.

3 WRC championships in the 80's and another 3 in the 90's (back to back which still hasn't been beaten). I had an early 8v (in Monza Red) which was a dream to drive, although it did need a lot of TLC and regular visits to the garage.

With the 4WD it cornered like it was on rails and with a 0-60 of less than 6 seconds it was impossible to beat presented with a nice windy road. Not the best in a straight line, but who wants to drive in a straight line anyway :D

Was hard to sell 5-6 years ago, but with a daily commute of over 100 miles and less than 20mpg (OK if you're buying gas in the US, but not if your paying UK petrol prices) it had to go.

Would love to get another one in a few years for some weekend fun and that great big grin factor again when the turbo spools up. Always wanted a yellow one too!

MR2s, Fieros

1980s - women still promoting cars; prefer silver with black targa and engine cover:

The 1970s 1300 looks the best; bumpers plus lower engine cover:

Lucky it wasn't the X1/9(2+2);)

Cheers,
OW

At one point my dad owned two of these. When I was 10 I remember thinking that they were completely amazing. However, the speedometer only went to 120, and the 1.3L engine wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. In addition to that, 1980s Italian electronics were pretty bad...

It's about the bends; corners, roundabouts, and curvy roads. Those who want a bit more oomph can swap the engine for an Uno Turbo, 2.0 Lancia, or  a 3.0 Alfa - think you need to widen the car for that, or search out a race version.

1980s - it's no Alfa Romeo Arna:)

for people who don't know/haven't heard of Group B

unfortunately, the likes of the this will never been seen again in any sporting event

:(

----------

Curious, why the '86 as opposed to the facelifted/more sought after 87+ models?

the 86 GT also had special seats, for that year only. they were also lighter.

That's insane!

That's why I find almost all modern sport (with the exception of the Tour de France) utterly boring. There's no fan participation/interaction.

Certain European football rivalries have a lot of potential with the political backdrops and groups fighting, but I haven't seen anything else even close to Group B.

Obviously I don't know anything specific about Group B as the video you posted is the first of it I've seen. But, if standing in front of a speeding car and jumping out of the way at the last second before getting creamed is fan participation then I'll pass. In my mind that's not exciting; that's reckless.

When you say that this kind of stuff will never be seen again in any kind of sporting event are you alluding to the fact that someone was seriously injured or possibly even killed? Does this style of racing continue today or has it been stopped?

Group B was abolished after a few driver's deaths.

The lack of regulations (both on cars and fans participation) made it quite interesting. I think its naïve to think the drivers/fans didn't know what they were doing. I also think it's important to note that one doesn't have to stand close. One could choose to stand close or not to stand close. The lack of ability to be that "close to the action" is really what's missing in most large sporting events these days.

Compare F1, CART and NASCAR. NASCAR does an excellent job in promoting fan participation (one can even get a ride in a NASCAR car.) But, the interaction with the event is still minimal compared to Group B.

The Tour de France remains an excellent example of how sporting events should be. It's not that uncommon for a cyclist to get hit on purpose (or inadvertently) during a stage by a car or a spectator
