I don't like apps that aren't free.

Freeware means they are free to use.
Shareware you normally get a trial or limited features until you pay for the app, however these are normally inexpensive.
Hope this helps.

Nearly everything on my Mac is freeware - the only things that aren't are bundled apps that came with it, Photoshop Elements and Office:mac (which cost £17 through my work!)

From left of dock to right (i.e. the ones I use a lot)

TacoHTML - lightweight and great HTML editor
Cyberduck - FTP client
Transmission - BitTorrent client
Adium

iBackup - little app to backup/restore stuff
iSquint - brilliant for converting vid for iPod
Handbrake - everybody knows about this one!

SEGA Genesis emulator
Snes9x SNES emulator
Boycott advance GBA emulator

In the menu bar

Coconut WiFi

iStat pro
Simpson quotes
iTide

Not in my dock

MacTheRipper
Lostify - really useful for tagging those .mp4s
OsiriX - the most impressive freeware I have EVER seen, so fully featured. But I doubt it would be of much use/interest to anybody on these boards!
NeuroLens - fMRI data analyzer
CoreDuo Temp
Coconut Identity Card
Solitaire XL

That's all I can remember at the moment...

As someone new to converting videos to iPod, how does iSquint differ from the feature available in the last iTunes version?

I love to use:

- Quicksilver
- Menumeters
- Adiumx

but those most of you use it already.

So I specially recommend that you Powerbook/MBP users try this new app, so you can be in full control of your backlit keyboard:

Lab Tick
